Ackerman Clarke is thrilled to present Chicago-based William J. O’Brien’s latest and largest set of colored pencil and ink drawings on Saturday, April 6th, after debuting recent ceramic vessels last summer. This forthcoming solo exhibition is the first in over twenty years dedicated specifically to significant drawings. The works on paper, all made from burnished, pigmented wax, and occasional washes of India ink, reflect influences of Modernists and varieties of craft activities. Most interestingly, the drawings that will be on view stem from self-imposed hurdles where colors are pulled at random to resolve outlined compositions. The produced tension, catalyzed from collisions of chance and choice, refutes easy explanations defined by intuition and low-watt dismissals aligned with decoration. Will Gabaldón’s current solo exhibition, “The stillest still that doesn’t end,” continues through Saturday, October 14th at Ackerman Clarke in Logan Square at 2544 W Fullerton Avenue. Ackerman Clarke is pleased to be included in the first iteration of Chicago Exhibition Weekend, a citywide event promoting the visual arts across neighborhoods. The festivities start today and continue through Sunday. The gallery in Logan Square located at 2544 W Fullerton Ave will be open today through 5pm and tomorrow from 12-5pm, and by appointment. Ten new compositions by local painter, Will Gabaldón, are on view in the artist’s first solo exhibition in Chicago.
