People claim to have seen huge shadows flying overhead, but spotting these mythical creatures is rare. Whispers echo through the town of recent dragon sightings, with numerous witnesses reporting ominous shadows gliding over their homes. Yet, these mythical creatures remain elusive, rarely revealing themselves to human eyes. Legends describe them as colossal beings resembling giant reptiles with wings that spew forth flames. Others liken them to enormous serpents, soaring through the skies with grace and breathing frost. However, one thing's for sure: children in our small village fear being chosen by them. If selected, they might get to see a dragon up close but would have to leave our village for an unknown place. A Kappa, or river-child/river-boy, is a yōkai (supernatural monster) in Japanese Folklore. It is considered to be the manifestation of suijin, or water deities, and inhabits ponds and rivers. Kappa have several distinct features, including a turtle-like shell, green, reptilian skin, beak, and hairless region on top of the head. They are mischievous troublemakers whose pranks can be harmless, such as loudly passing gas, or malevolent. They’re known for kidnapping children, and for luring people and animals to bodies of water to drown them. Kappa aren’t completely bad though. They can become friends with humans in exchange for gifts and food, especially cucumbers, which are their favorite. They are obsessed with politeness, and can be tricked into servitude because a Kappa will never break an oath. Kapp’n is a Kappa. His appearance matches a Kappa’s description, he sings about cucumbers, and he spends time near bodies of water. In Animal Crossing he takes players to the island, in Wild World he brings players to town in a taxi, in City Folk he brings players to town in a bus, and in New Leaf he drives players to the island on a boat. He therefore has two major roles: bringing the player away from home to a new town, and bringing the player out onto a body of water. Can it be that Kapp’n kidnaps you from home to bring you to the Animal Crossing village? Can it be that Kapp’n is trying to lure you out onto the open water to drown you? Or maybe Kapp’n fulfills his duties as part of a servitude agreement with Tortimer, which is why the player is never harmed? It’s time to talk about a serious issue; an epidemic of epic proportion. It’s something that few have the courage or inclination to discuss, but I feel compelled to raise awareness about this crippling reality that plagues our villages. An infectious, debilitating threat to the safety of our villagers that’s been running rampant for far too long. At first it was relegated to village outskirts, the tunnel along the train tracks, dark alleys along Main Street. But then it reared its ugly head within villages and homes. It’s robbed us of friends and loved ones, obstructed bright futures, and hindered innovative ordinances from blossoming. The culprits continue to operate in plain sight as Booker and Copper do nothing more than assemble a lost and found pile of trifles and trinkets. I’m talking about drug abuse. The morbid reality is that drug addiction has invaded our villages, and infected our population; ending all ambitions, hopes, and aspirations. Villagers stuck in their homes exhibit withdrawal symptoms, unable to function without their “medicine,” which they happily trade for their clothes and furniture. They scrounge together whatever they can to raise money to support their habit by shaking trees, gathering seashells, and auctioning prized heirlooms. Just look at what it’s done to Jay, Curly, and worst of all, Biskit. Intervene by identifying dysfunctional behavior, and offering support. Go to the Moon: Sometimes you’ll spot Gulliver flying through the skies in his UFO. If you revel in debauchery, you can take out your slingshot and shoot him out of the sky to cause a (non-lethal) crash. The next day you’ll find the crashed UFO on the beach alongside Gulliver, who’s seen better days. Talk to him in his catatonic state a few times to wake him up (don’t walk toward the light!). A piece of his spacecraft landed somewhere in town, and he says it’s up to you to find it. Recover and return the part to him, and just remember: we only do favors for valuable rewards in Animal Crossing! Normally after giving the part back, Gulliver will thank you and give you an item. If a few conditions are met, however, prepare for liftoff! First off, you have to be lucky enough to have the UFO crash on the night of a full moon. Second, if you don the “Astronaut Look” (Space Suit & Space Helmet) when you talk to Gulliver, he’ll invite you to ride in his UFO with him on a trip to the moon. He admits that his ship is a bit lonely given the lack of extraterrestrial encounters, and invites you along for company! (See pic). The moon is pretty barren, with only a small area open to exploration. The only thing you’ll find is a single tree with an alien fruit, and a flagpole where you can raise a flag with a personal design on it. In the Japanese version of Animal Crossing, you can break your way into Mr. Resetti’s home! After Mr. Resetti catches you for shutting down without saving, hit every single rock in your town with your shovel. After you do it 3 days in a row, one of the rocks will crack! Hit the cracked rock with your shovel to destroy it, leaving a hole in the ground that’s just big enough to squeeze through. After the Nooks close up shop and go to sleep for the night, you can wake them up! In the Japanese version of Animal Crossing, bang your shovel on Nook’s store door 3 times after the shop has closed. The light in the store will turn on, the door will creak open, and you can go in! The music inside sounds really eerie and ominous. A half sleeping Tom Nook will greet you in his pajamas while yawning, and allow you to shop. Be warned! Nook isn’t pleased about your forced entry, and is far from his typically accommodating self. Prices are 20% higher than usual, you can’t preview wallpaper or carpet before you buying, can’t view your catalogue, and can’t ask about turnip prices. If Nook’s store has been upgraded to Nookington’s, you can go upstairs to see Timmy & Tommy in their pajamas too. Also, if you’re brash enough to wake Tom Nook up on Christmas, he will knock you out of the store with his shovel, and you won’t be allowed in the whole next day! You know how to wish on a falling star, but do you know how to catch one? During a meteor shower, take out your Golden Net and look for a star that travels within the reach of your net. Be patient; it’s going to take some time before you spot one that is low enough, and they move so fast that you may miss your chance the first time! Basically you press A to use your net with perfect timing when a star falls low enough within reach (like the one in the picture). The timing is too hard to just react to the star upon sight, so you’ll have to anticipate the star’s trajectory. Some people inboxed me saying that they’re having a hard time getting the VL9 villager duping method to work. Maybe it’s a problem with timing…it has to be perfect people! Well, here’s a foolproof method that doesn’t require any timing skill, just a little technical computer skill! 1) Create a backup of your ACNL save file on your SD card on a computer by copying your file data. 2) Wait for one of your villagers to say they’re moving out on a certain date. 3) Invite a friend in when the villager is in boxes. The friend will then invite the villager to live in their town. 4) Delete your ACNL save file off of your SD card in your 3DS/2DS. Copy the backup save file from your computer back onto your 3DS/2DS SD card. 5) Load your game, and your villager will still be in your town back to the time before they ever pinged to move out! When you load the backup save file it's like TTing directly into the past. You're restoring a previous save state to its original form. The same method can be done with items. HOW TO DUPE VILLAGERS: Everyone knows how to dupe items in ACNL, here's a recap: 1) Visitor has items to dupe and enters a host's town. 2) Visitor drops the items to be duped. 3) Host selects "End the Online Session." 4) While the game is saving, Visitor turns the wi-fi switch off. 5) Visitor gets error screen and returns to their town with their items still in their inventory. 6) Host still has the items the on the ground. SUCCESS! Did you know the same method could be applied to duping villagers? 1) Host has a villager in boxes and ready to move out. 2) Visitor enters host’s town and talks to the villager in boxes to invite them to their town. 3) Host selects "End the Online Session." 4) While the game is saving, Visitor turns the wi-fi switch off. 5) Visitor gets error screen and returns to their town. Coco is dead. A lot of people are big fans of Coco. As for me personally, I've always found her to be super creepy, and after reading this, you will too! To understand, first we need a little bit of a history lesson: Coco's name in Japanese is "Yayoi" which is a reference to an era in Japan from 300BC-300AD where pottery developed. During this time, people buried Haniwa (known in English as Gyroids) with dead bodies. Those Haniwa, or Gyroids, were said to be containers for the souls of the deceased. Basically, the soul of the dead lived in the Gyroid kind of like a house. The Gyroids took different sizes, styles, and differed in overall appearance because they acquired the characteristics of the soul that they contained. You see this in Animal Crossing with the many different types of gyroids and the variety of sounds they make, which can also be interpreted as cries of the dead. This means that every time you dig up a Gyroid, you're really digging up a burial site, and the soul of the deceased. Now, getting back to Coco. Look at Coco's lifeless eyes and mouth. Ever wonder why she looks like that? When you combine her aesthetic appearance, her catchphrase that says "doyoing," the fact that she has several gyroids in her home, her favorite book "Making Gyroids Work For You," and the history that her Japanese name implies, the truth becomes clear! COCO IS A GYROID. She is a vessel for a dead soul, eerily caught between this world and the next. She is the living dead, a zombie, a reanimated vessel; and she is caught in the land of the living. Some say she doesn't know that she is dead. I have my theories as to why Coco is stuck in the living world (unrequited love, unfinished business, revenge, regret, strong will, etc.), but that is a topic for another Village Legend! Who is the real Mayor? Me or Isabelle? Let's cut right to the chase here - Isabelle is the boss. We are all her puppets and she is pulling our strings, having us work for her as the mastermind. Every time you want to flex your mayoral muscle, you need Isabelle. Public Works Project? Cant construct or demolish without Isabelle. Trying to institute an ordinance? Isabelle. Worst of a, the mayor must foot the bill! Isabelle plans events and gives away gifts. What she says goes. We have no say over when holidays, fireworks, bug and fish offs are--she decides without consulting us. Villagers move in and out, destroying our paths, fruit groves, and spaces for PWP without consent of "the mayor!" We have NO POWER. She restricts us to demolish or build 1 PWP per day and where to place it. She tasks us with saying hello to new villagers and goodbye to old villagers because she is lazy and can't be bothered. We are Isabelle's errand boys and girls--A mayor in name only. Nothing but a figurehead, a pawn, a glorified secretary and servant. We do the dirty work, raising hundreds of thousands of bells while she sits in an office building all day (her desk is bigger than yours btw). Isabelle was planning to takeover all along too! She planned to kick an aging and increasingly ineffective mayor Tortimer out of office and she finally did it. She lobbied for power and placed her friends, Reese and Cyrus, in the most desirable business location, moving the Nooks and the rest across the train tracks. Then she waited to prey on a defenseless and naive traveler (YOU) to come to town and place them under her command. Well my friends, it is clear as a bell--Isabelle is the real boss of your village. I only pray that one day a brave revolutionary emerges and launches a riot, rebelling against this power hungry canine, awarding US THE PLAYERS, with control of true power. Perhaps it will be Rover? If you have a tweeter or throwing beans you can go in areas of your town that were previously off limits by pushing through the barrier! For example, you can go in your river, the waterfall, on the train tracks, on top of buildings and PWP, and in the ocean without a wetsuit. STEP 1: Get a tweeter or throwing beans. STEP 2: Invite another person into your town or go to someone else’s town. STEP 3: Hold the tweeter and stand next to a spot you want to go through. For example, stand near the fence by the train tracks, the river, a building, etc. The other person must digs holes to your left and right to prevent you from moving to the sides. Once that’s set, use the tweeter, and the other person will run into you. Eventually you will be pushed through the previously impenetrable barrier, or “tweeter push,” to the new area or on top of a structure. Enjoy exploring! Yes, that means 180 bags of 99,000 bells. That's 17,820,000. --------------------------------------- Step 2: While every slot is full with 99,000 bells, wait for Crazy Redd to be in your town. Walk in. The sly fox will greet you and then exclaim that your storage is bursting at the seams! He praises you for your eclectic taste, applauds you as a true collector, and says you deserve more room to store your valuables. He informs you that he will handle the fine details and hassle, and directs you to speak with Tom Nook, who will handle construction. --------------------------------------- Step 3: Go talk to Tom Nook at Nook Homes. Bad luck... Is there anything worse than bad luck in this game?! Why oh why does my character have to TRIP ALL DAY?!?! It's most definitely the most irritating part of an otherwise flawless game. And to add insult to injury, or rather injury to insult, I've heard a rumor that your character can actually get really hurt from tripping. Has this happened to you? When you trip sometimes it looks like you bump into things--houses, trees, items, villagers...and rocks. Rumor has it that when you enter a full sprint, trip, and land head first directly into a rock, you can actually injure your character. If your character's head makes direct contact with the center of the rock, (the contact has to be perfectly in the center) and you have enough speed from running, your character will "see stars." Just like the showmanship/mistaken emotion from Dr. Shrunk, stars will bounce off of your head once you make contact with the rock. Once you see stars, your character will lose its memory and have a type of amnesia!! The map on the bottom screen won't list the locations of any of your villagers, when you talk to villagers it won't display their names, you forget how to fish, catch bugs, plant flowers and trees, dig up buried items, and worst of all, you can't enter your house because you forgot where your keys are!! Also when you go to sell at the retail shop, Reese only gives you 10% of an item's value to take advantage of your memory loss, but this only happens if you have the wealthy ordinance (I guess she wants revenge for having to pay 20% more all the time!)
