دی کمپین فار ٹوبیکو فری کڈز (CTFK) کے کنٹری ہیڈ ملک عمران احمد نے ورلڈ ہیلتھ آرگنائزیشن (ڈبلیو ایچ او) کے مطابق حکومت پر زور دیا ہے کہ تمباکو کے ٹیکسوں کو خوردہ قیمت کے 70 فیصد تک بڑھا کر نوجوانوں میں تمباکو کے بڑے پیمانے پر استعمال کے اہم مسئلے کو حل کرے۔ انکی تجویز کے مطابق، ایک طویل مدتی بیل آؤٹ پروگرام کے لیے بین الاقوامی مالیاتی فنڈ (آئی ایم ایف) کے ساتھ گفت و شنید سے قبل اگلے بجٹ میں محصولات کی وصولی میں اضافے کے اختیارات پر بھی غور کیا جا رہا ہے۔ پاکستان میں سگریٹ پر فیڈرل ایکسائز ڈیوٹی (FED) کا دو سطحی نظام ہے، جس میں 2022-23 میں اہم پیش رفت کی گئی اور سگریٹ پر FED میں اضافہ کیا گیا۔ ریٹیل قیمتوں میں موجودہ FED کا حصہ بالترتیب 48 فیصد اور 68 فیصد کم اور اعلی درجے کے لیے ہے۔ ملک عمران احمد نے بیان کیا کہ وقت آ گیا ہے کہ فوائد حاصل کیے جائیں اور تمباکو نوشی کرنے والوں کی تعداد کم کی جائے، خاص طور پر نوجوانوں میں۔ انکی ملاحظہ ہے کہ ملک کی 60 فیصد سے زائد آبادی نوجوانوں پر مشتمل ہے، اور انہیں تمباکو کے استعمال کی برائیوں سے بچایا جانا ضروری ہے۔ اعداد و شمار کے مطابق تقریباً 19.1 فیصد بالغ (عمر 15 اور اس سے زیادہ) فی الحال تمباکو استعمال کرتے ہیں، جن میں 31.8 فیصد مرد اور 5.8 فیصد خواتین شامل ہیں۔ تمباکو پر ٹیکس میں 37 فیصد اضافے کی تجویز بھی پیش کی گئی ہے۔ جولائی 2023 سے جنوری 2024 تک ریونیو کی وصولی 122 ارب روپے تک پہنچ گئی ہے، اور سال کے آخر تک 200 ارب روپے سے بھی تجاوز کرنے کی توقع ہے۔ اس علاوہ، تمباکو نوشی سے متعلق بیماریوں کی دیکھ بھال کے کل اخراجات کے 17.8 فیصد کی وصولی میں بھی مدد کی گئی ہے۔ ملک عمران نے بین الاقوامی مالیاتی فنڈ (آئی ایم ایف) کے سروے اور مطالعات کا حوالہ دیا، جس میں کہا گیا کہ قیمتوں میں اضافے کے بعد پاکستان میں سگریٹ کی کھپت میں کم از کم 20 فیصد کمی واقع ہوئی ہے۔ #TobaccoFreePakistan #HealthCare #TaxReform #YouthEmpowerment #PublicHealth #IMF #Taxation #YouthAwareness #SmokingHazards #IMFSurvey #RevenueGeneration #HealthExpenditure #TaxIncrease #YouthHealth #PolicyReform

Let us all remember the sacrifices of our heroes and pray for the peace & prosperity of our homeland. In Pakistan, more than 1 lac people die annually due to tobacco usage. Since death due to habitual consumption of tobacco is preventable, the adverse effects of its use on health and well-being must be highlighted. Because of this reason, World No Tobacco Week was observed recently at both campuses of FJDC. FJDC pledges to work towards curbing the habit of tobacco usage in Pakistan. Hence we will run an ongoing campaign for “Tobacco-Free Pakistan” throughout this year. Dr. Hussain Askary (CEO & Head, Department of Community Dentistry, Fatima Jinnah Dental College & Hospital Trust) announced that this nationwide initiative will be spearheaded by him personally as he strongly believes that "Real freedom is the freedom from disease" In this regard, Pakistan's key achievements include notified Pictorial Health Warning of 85% size on both sides of cigarette packs, a ban on smoking in public places and a ban on the sale of cigarettes to a minor. But since people don’t follow regulations strictly, minors have access to cigarettes and vaping easily. To curtail this issue, FJDC will use Social Media, Tobacco Cessation Center, Awareness Sessions, and free Oral Health Screenings, to make this important campaign successful. An Awareness Session and free Oral Health Screening Camp for the marginalized students of The Hunar Foundation (THF) was conducted by FJDC recently. Apart from these activities, we will also be highlighting the toxic effects of smoking and secondhand smoke intake. The use of tobacco amongst the youth of Pakistan is an increasingly concerning issue. Approximately 1200 children between the ages of 6 and 15 start smoking each day.
