Housing update (the latest): A few weeks ago, the latest numbers were released: โก๏ธ Housing starts in all areas of Canada decreased by 7% month over month โก๏ธ The six-month trend decreased by 1.6% โก๏ธ In urban areas, housing starts were up 16% month over month, driven by multi-unit starts โก๏ธ The numbers vary based on area of the country. Toronto and Vancouver starts were higher year over year, although single-detached starts were lower. Montreal all starts were lower year over year. โก๏ธ Starts in non-urban areas all across the country were lower month to month and year over year, for single detached and multi-unit homes. What does this all mean? Well, itโs not the best news. ๐ We were already in a #housingshortage a year ago. And the number of housing starts has declined since then. That means: 1๏ธโฃ Expect a housing shortage to exist for a while longer, putting pressure on housing prices to go up even with higher rates.
