On 14th of May he second public conference “Reconstructing the culture of architecture in Ukraine” took place in Stockholm, Sweden during which the first year’s projects, research, and progress were presented. Organized by Architects Sweden (@sveriges_arkitekter ) the event brought together 30 speakers including architects, urbanists, heritage preservation experts, government officials, and representatives from international organizations. During the conference five high-level round table discussions were held between Ukrainian government and international architectural and heritage protection organizations representatives. On May 13th, the day before the conference, at the UREHERIT summit in Stockholm a cooperation agreement was signed between #UREHERIT and @arch_eeu platform for architectural design competitions! Together the projects will initiate a platform for long-term cooperation between architects, urbanists and landscape architects from Ukraine and other European countries to protect and develop the heritage as a resource for the recovery of Ukraine. As Ukrainian and European specialists will work and create together, the projects will provide two–way knowledge (Ukrainians learning from Europeans, Europeans learning from Ukrainians. Project CPD Ukraine, in its recent report, D3.1 "Human Resource Needs for Sustainable Rebuilding with Heritage" presents a comprehensive perspective on heritage as an integral component of Ukraine's democratic reconstruction towards a sustainable future. Shocking estimates reveal significant damage to cultural assets, underscoring the scale of this cultural tragedy. The report highlights the exigency for resources encompassing human capital, financial investment, theoretical frameworks, methodological tools, technical expertise, and construction materials. Let us present a second team for CPD: Ukraine: Spatial Audit of Kharkiv ( team: Ihor Lialuk, Anna Martynenko, Artem Sosipatrov ) Kharkiv currently has an inefficient spatial model with low density, leading to inefficient use of natural and human resources. It should be significantly optimized, especially in post-war times when the population and density could be lower, otherwise the cost per citizen could increase. The developed methodology of the spatial audit can be then applied to other large cities in Ukraine and Europe. The proposed stages include conducting spatial audits, developing conceptual design proposals, holding public discussions, and adjusting the methodology for conducting spatial audits to prepare guidelines and recommendations for the post-war development of large and major cities in Ukraine. An international European cultural project “UREHERIT. Architects for heritage in Ukraine: recreating identity and memory” travels to the @neweuropeanbauhaus Fair in Brussels. A festival, where imagination meets sustainability and inclusivity for a beautiful future. From 9 to 13 of April UREHERIT took part in #NEBfair and continued to initiate a platform for long-term cooperation between architects, urbanists, landscape architects and antiquarians from Ukraine and other European countries to protect and develop the natural and heritage as a resource for the recovery of Ukraine. Conceptual Proposal for the Reconstruction of the Oldest Castle Entrance Gate and Wooden Drawbridge" on the second day. Organised by @nsau_ukr workshop was dedicated to castle’s restauration and art centre implementation project. Svirzh Castle (Ukrainian: Свірзький замок) is a fortified aristocratic residence with a small church in Svirzh, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine. It was originally built in the 15th century. Surrounded on all sides by moats, lakes, and marshes, the castle is an example of defense and palace architecture of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Preserved defense structure has become the subject of special attention. Devastated by fire the revival of Svirzh Castle began in the 1970s and is still ongoing. The NAUA is making every effort to ensure that the castle is completely rebuilt and a modern "Svirzh" center is created - a multifunctional complex: a scientific, cultural, educational, tourist and communication center for the community of Ukraine. Guests together with Yuriy Verbovetskyi joined the creative process and offered the ideas for the restoration of Svirzh Castle, all of which were discussed and kept in Svirzh for further development. Це вперше, коли такий масштабний міжнародний консорціум архітектурних організацій зібрався для об’єднання зусиль задля досягнення спільних результатів, спрямованих на збереження української спадщини та культури. Svetlana Biriuk - took part in the development of proposals for the reconstruction of a microdistrict of residential buildings built in the 50-60s of the 20th century in the city of Kyiv – Urban Planning Concept for the Renovation of Territories Along Marshal Grechko Street in the Shevchenkivsky District of the City of Kyiv (Institute of Urban Planning, 2006), as well as city programs for the reconstruction of blocks (neighborhoods) of the outdated housing stock of the city of Kyiv (Institute of Urban Planning, 2008 and 2019-2021). She is one of the authors of the scientific research work “Outdated housing stock reconstruction: terminology, classification, methods” (2020). She is educated from Aarhus School of Architecture with a specialization in architectural heritage.She obtained her Ph.D. degree on the tectonics of insulation in Danish vernacular buildings and how the convivial technologies of the past can be reinterpreted and industrialized in the present. Ulrik Stylsvig Madsen - Associate Professor, Ph.D., M. Arch at Royal Danish Academy and Institute of Architecture and Technology.
