Today, around 515pm, I was attacked from behind. I was around 15th and Chestnut walking home. Broad daylight, tons of people. This little asshole in all black thought it was cool to hit me in the back of the head with a traffic cone. With his hood pulled up, he darted across the street in-between traffic. I’m not hurt, just a small knot on the back of my head. This kind of stuff is uncalled for, and just plain disrespectful. I know why he attacked me, I’m a gay male of color. I’m not afraid of who I am. I guess my crop top was just too much for him. It’s always cool to go pick on the gay guy, the trans woman, the queer they, we all know how this goes. This was a “minor” incident, but many times, situations that start just like this, are not “minor”. The LGBTQIA+ community faces this kind of harassment daily. We all know someone who has been through this and much worse. Some of them are no longer here to tell their story. I’m writing this, not looking for pity, or revenge. I write this to underscore the grave need for all of us in the LGBTQIA+ community to come together, not just for a moment in time, but as a new way of life. The only way that we can all truly live our best lives is if we do it together, as a community. Our community is being attacked from all angles: emotionally, physically, and politically. There is truth in the saying “There’s strength in numbers”. Are we all going to get along 100% of the time? No. Not everyone is for everyone, that’s just human nature. The difference is, we as a community can recognize that, and still do what’s right for each other, and do everything we can to keep each other safe. We should not have to walk the streets in fear of being attacked, just because we are being ourselves, be it broad daylight or 2am. I would really love it if we could all get to a place where we: respect one another, care for one another, and uphold the greater good to keep every one of us in our community safe. Let’s start having those tough conversations with each other, we would all be better for it. Let’s take back all our safe spaces, and respect everyone, so that no one feels left out or forgotten.

I casi di aggressione e violenza ai danni del personale sanitario accertati dall’Inail nel 2022 sono più di 1.600, in aumento sia rispetto al 2021 sia rispetto al 2020, quando l’accesso alle strutture ospedaliere e assistenziali è stato fortemente limitato a causa dell’emergenza Covid-19. A segnalarlo è il nuovo numero del periodico Dati Inail, curato dalla Consulenza statistico attuariale dell’Istituto, che dedica un focus al fenomeno, precisando che si tratta di un dato parziale perché non comprende i medici e gli infermieri liberi professionisti che non sono assicurati dall’Inail, inclusi i medici di famiglia e le guardie mediche. Anche se in ripresa rispetto al biennio precedente, il dato del 2022 resta al di sotto di quanto rilevato nel periodo ante pandemia: nel 2018 e 2019, infatti, i casi di violenza nella sanità sono stati oltre duemila all’anno.
