The 40 is one of the most ridden routes throughout Seattle. With its amazing frequency’s of every 15 minutes no matter the day! It is always a filled bus no matter the day or time. It serves Downtown Seattle and Westlake, then through Fremont and Ballard Terminating at Northgate Station. During peak I’m not kidding it should be ran every five-ish minutes! Along the route already they are doing multiple upgrades which I’m glad. When they are delivered next year, they will mark the 25th anniversary since BC Transit became an industry innovator by placing the first double deck buses into transit service in North America. BC Transit continues to use double deck vehicles as their high-capacity bus of choice and including the latest order, it has now bought over 110 double deck buses. Freshly Fitted Here is an @mta 2023 New Flyer XD40 #9333 from JFK Depot on its revenue run on the Q9 today (5/23/24). JFK only needs a handful of 9330s-series XD40s to complete their allotment. This is one of the smoothest orders I’ve seen yet. The fact that NFI is making it, and that it’s going in small, ordered batches to MTA Bus, also plays a factor, along with them being easier to make than Hybrids or Electrics. We’ve seen a lot come and a lot go over the years. This is the newest order of XD40s, part of the 116 bus portion of the 289 Diesel Order for MTA Bus. The 289 bus order was split between NFI and Nova. According to Pantograph, these DE60LFAs haven’t seen service since the start of May, so they’re likely retired, having been replaced by the 2024 batch of XDE60s. I was scrolling through my YouTube feed and seen a video about the Alaskan Way Viaduct. And I thought to myself WAIT where did it go!? After I did some research I found out that it was demolished in 2019. I don’t think it should’ve been demolished for a tunnel underground. Yeah I get that it was blocking the views of Seattle. I also get that the noise of it was loud from all the vehicles traveling on it. I think it was one of Seattle’s Iconic places. I always remember seeing it as a kid and being downtown a lot I never noticed it was gone. I have mixed opinions on the differences from Bus lanes and Streets for busses. I think bus lanes are good letting them travel through traffic smoothly in their own lane, though cars make their way into specific spots along them. Streets for transit only are only good in city’s. An example is Downtown Seattles 3rd Ave. during the day it’s only for transit only which is great no other vehicles through downtown, the city. There’s the busway which really makes no sense to have only a transit street with not many things around it. Honestly if cars were there I don’t think it would make a difference. Substitute buses are always fun to ride, especially when the buses that are assigned to a particular route are anomalies, or buses that are not assigned to serve a particular route, whether it be for regular service or as a sub. In the case of Routes 1, 9, and 38, they all strictly have subs assigned for their respective services, with 1606 and 1704 assigned for FAX15, and 1720 and 1726 assigned for FAX Q. Unfortunately l, there may be instances where even the special substitute buses themselves are unavailable, or additional buses are needed to fill in for additional blocks. In that case, FAX will throw in older buses from the spare fleet, which would usually be 0906, 0907, and/or 0913. 05s and 06s are also sometimes used, although it is very rare to see them on these routes. Today, 0906 and 0907 were seen on Route 9 filling in for 1702 and 1703 respectively. Meanwhile, 0913 was on Route 1, which I actually saw while 0906 passed Blackstone. I wasn’t intending on taking a photo, but when I saw that the driver pulled over to go to the bathroom at the Black Bear Diner on Shaw and Marty, I saw the perfect opportunity for a photo. Our American friends flew from overseas especially to prepare their specialties according to family recipes. ✅️Make sure you have fun. We organized a chess tournament (first asking the guests if they liked playing chess ;). People sat at the tables who might not necessarily understand each other's languages, but they played great chess together. ✅️Give out gifts. The gifts included: dishwashing liquid, shampoo, jam, canned tomatoes... Yes, people in need in our community enjoy such unsophisticated gifts. They shake our hands in gratitude.
