The past 10 days have been tough since the passing on of my Dad. The burial arrangements were enough trigger to send me into a dark hole. Yey..but my faith in God kept my heart guarded. As a family, we navigated through our differences with grace and love (will tell you about it in my book)🤔 There is nothing as comforting as a decent send off, that’s what my old man got. Today, as I walked by the lake to watch the ducks and talk to Mom dukes @lutishagreen 💜--as I was walking back this little guy was on his way to shore. So I gave him a little help to the shore and placed him in the water. . Remember the story with the turtle and rabbit? Well this was my message of the day as a reminder that no matter how long it takes you in your journey, you will get there and someone will come and pick you up to help you get there quicker. The turtle won the race if I may remind y'all! . Oftentimes we get discouraged, thinking our pace isn't quick enough, but God knows exactly what he's doing with you on the path to greatness. As I picked him up, you notice he quickly shys away in his shell, knowing how uncomfortable it is and unexpected. The moment I released him in the water, he slowly comes out of the shore and TAKES OFF swimming. I know the feeling he may have had to walk a long way to shore but once placed in the water, he knew exactly what to do ... KEEP SWIMMING! . If someone comes along in your journey to help, ACCEPT it! I stole his smile ❤️ I should write a book titled “Grieving Gracefully”. Or maybe, “From The Eyes Of A Grieving Daughter”. Either way, I think the world needs to hear the transparent & vulnerable story about a daughter who grows through challenges & victories in life, while watching her parents change right before her eyes from different illnesses. Physical Mental Trauma Induced There’s no manual for a young girl, or a young woman in her 20s trying to navigate the voids in her heart, & the responsibilities of life. No manual on how to be to your parents what they couldn’t be for you. Just Jesus… Jesus has to be my anchor. There’s no other way! I smile because I’m filled with so much hope. I persevere because I’m standing on a Promise. I let the tears flow because they bring healing. I encourage others because of the goodness of God that I’ve tasted & seen! We all have a hard story in life. This guy right here is “My Dude” . . . Last night, he treated me to dinner at one of “his” favorite restaurants. He was finance and I was transportation. In this season, he’s been a 💥 bridge over troubled waters 💥 an encourager 💥 an inspiration 💥 my comedic relief 💥 my SonShine on cloudy days He defies Aspergers and doesn’t let Aspergers define him. Even with his quirkiness and idiosyncrasies, his lack of tact and sharp tongue, this young man is a force to be reckoned with. He questions everyone and everything, not to be “flip”, yet to gain better understanding. He works hard and strives to be independent in everything he does and gets easily annoyed by this reformed “smother mother 😁”. He may act like he isn’t paying attention(that phone is like an appendage), yet he misses very little, hearing everything and seeing all. He socializes in ways that make sense TO HIM and is often misunderstood by outsiders who try to put him in that box of typicality. To know him is to know that he has a brilliant mind, a HUGE heart and he loves quite deeply. It has not always been easy for this old school mother to raise this new school kid, yet the experience of living on “the Autism Spectrum” has grown us up in a myriad of ways. This young man makes me be a better Mom, a greater person and he definitely has my heart. This year seems to be harder than when I got the call because I know January 1, will be the day of my mother’s sudden death, 2 years ago. I’m grateful that God is helping me through it gracefully. Although it hurts, I can feel his love and comfort. I’m also grateful that me and my husband @jamessealey was able to praise and dance together today in our pain of not having our mothers instead got trying to drink the pain away. I’m feeling my feelings but they won’t overtake me. God is good in all things.
