Camping at Spitzkoppe in the Namib Dessert on a rock beneath the stars was definitely my number one activity of Africa. It was cold and it was sooooo windy during the night. I turned into a cocoon rolled up in my sleeping bag, zipper closed completely. No tent to provide shelter from the wind. Did I like it at that moment? Hell no. 😂 The night didn’t seem promising at first because the moon was shining brightly in the sky so we barely got a glimpse of the constellation let alone of the Milky Way. I remember falling asleep disappointed. And than I woke up at around 2am, opened my sleeping bag cocoon to grab my water bottle from outside and looked up. I think I’ve spend a solid 3 or 4 hours stargazing. Tired like hell. Once Upon a Time Shot on film during my 2002 trip to South Africa & Namibia. By far the most impressive landscape I have ever seen. This is taken at Sossusvlei, It took me and my friends two days driving full time from Cape Town to Sessriem and half an hour just to climb one dune... those things are huge! We were just in time to see the sunset, slept right outside the park on a park bench and then got back in for the sunrise. It was extraterrestrially unreal. Would love to get back there someday. Anyone got any good tips/workflow for digitizing 35 mm film? Desde su cima, a 170 metros de altura, se tiene muy buenas vistas abiertas al este y oeste. La subida a la duna requiere de cierto esfuerzo físico. A la pendiente se le añade lo difícil y cansado que resulta andar sobre arena. A ratos te falta el aire, y se tiene la sensación de que cuesta muchísimo avanzar. Een beschermd gebied waarbinnen enkele van Namibië’s beroemdste bezienswaardigheden vallen. 🦂 𝗗𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘀𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘃𝗹𝗲𝗶 Een van die bezienswaardigheden is de Sossusvlei. De vallei staat bekend om zijn torenhoge zandduinen die allemaal een opmerkelijke, rode gloed hebben. 🥾 𝗗𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟰𝟱 De duinen in de Sossusvlei zijn op meerdere manieren te zien, maar de beste manier om dit te doen, is wat ons betreft door er eentje te beklimmen. Kies in dat geval voor Dune 45. Een zandduin die zijn naam heeft te danken aan het feit dat ‘ie langs de 45e kilometer van de weg tussen Sesriem en de Sossusvlei ligt, maar goed. Daar heb je verder ook weinig aan. 💁🏼♂️ 𝗭𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝘇𝗼𝗲𝗸 𝗷𝗲 𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟰𝟱 Interessanter is het feit dat de oranjekleurige, 170 meter hoge duin te beklimmen is. Dat kost enige inspanning, maar dan heb je ook wel een van de móóiste uitzichten over de Sossusvlei te pakken. Ons advies? Doe dit vroeg óf juist laat op de dag. Op die momenten is één deel Dune 45 in schaduwen gehuld – en dat maakt het fenomeen mogelijk nog indrukwekkender. 🙋🏻♀️ 𝗪𝗶𝗹 𝗷𝗲 𝘇𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟰𝟱 𝗯𝗲𝗸𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻? De meeste rondreizen door Namibië, zowel in groepsverband als zelfstandig, doen de Sossusvlei aan, zoals de groepsreizen van @afrikaplus. Je hebt dan veelal voldoende tijd om ook Dune 45 te beklimmen. Dit soort reizen worden vaak gecombineerd met andere landen in het zuidelijke deel van Afrika, zoals Botswana en Zuid-Afrika.

Tried to compete with my jeep-mates to see who could reach the top but we all failed 😅 My tour guide: It normally takes u 40 mins to climb to the top! (Before arriving the dune) Also my guide: Oh it becomes steeper than last time but pls just try to hit it within 30 mins 😁 (After our arrival) Pls listen to the howling sound from Dune 45 🎶 At one point I was so dizzy just wanna slip down from the top instead 🥵 Climbing up the sand dune just keeps u sinking. Walking along the ridge of the star dune was esp taxing for me yet also very satisfying when u (almost) complete it!
