Around the turn of the century, the City of Detroit’s eastern boundary was East Grand Boulevard. The rest of the land was called Fairview Village because the residents there had a “fair view” of the Detroit River. As the area grew and businessmen saw potential for development, Grosse Pointe and Detroit decided to annex Fairview Village in 1907. Grosse Pointe took land from Cadieux to Alter Road. Grosse Pointe Park was born. Detroit took the rest. Detroit’s new eastern boundary saw a boom of families in the area, so a high school needed to be built. Southeastern High opened in 1917. And since the land wasn’t fully developed, students said it looked like a jungle. Hence the name Southeastern Jungaleers. The school is still located at 3030 Fairview. SE alumni include Jackie Robinson’s personal journalist Mr. Wendell Smith, Hot Sam’s co-owner Mr. Tony Stovall, rappers Dej Loaf and G’Mac Cash, actor Mike Merrill, and NFL players Bart Scott, Will Gholston, and Johnathan Hankins. Fairview Manor, the housing projects adjacent to SE, was once the home of Mack Park where the Detroit Stars of the Negro League played. The baseball field burned down around 1930. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit #DetroitSoutheastern #3030 #Jungaleers

When Dr. Derrick R. Coleman became Superintendent of River Rouge School District in 2012, there were only 800 students in the district. Today, RRSD has over 3,000 students! The enrollment boost, which included picking up students across Detroit and ads on DDOT buses, helped save River Rouge schools from closing, making it a desired school district for families in the metro Detroit area. Under Dr. Coleman’s leadership, River Rouge has opened a new school focused on science, technology, engineering and math and a school-based health center. These changes have led to an academic standard that has resulted in higher college preparatory test scores for students. A self-proclaimed ‘urban educator,’ Dr. Coleman has a passion for providing young people with access, opportunity, and college scholarships, regardless of their economic situation. A graduate of Detroit Western High School, Dr. Coleman earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Michigan University. He earned an Ed.D from Gwynedd Mercy University in 2017. He’s also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. @rouge_schools #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit #RiverRouge #Education #EMU

It was once home to John “Spider” Salley and Bishop Wayne T. Jackson. The Bishop’s Mansion, located at 19366 Lucerne in the Palmer Woods neighborhood, is the largest private residence in the City of Detroit! It’s for sale again with a sealed bidding process ending June 10. Hurry up! It was built between 1924-1926 for Bishop Michael Gallagher of the Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit. The home is 33,000-square feet, has 12 bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, and 10 fireplaces, on 2.4 acres of land. In 1989, John Salley of the Detroit Pistons bought the home for just $500,000! Utilities at the time were $20,000 per year!! The “Bad Boy” was making about $400,000 that year. Michael Jordan was making $2,000,000. The Pistons traded Salley to the Miami Heat in 1992. That’s when he put the house up for sale. But, it took a few years to find a new buyer. Salley wanted $890,000 for it. In May of 1995, Bishop Wayne T. Jackson bought the home from John Salley for under $900,000. Solid flip for Salley. Pastor of Great Faith Ministries on Grand River at the time, Bishop Jackson wanted the home for his wife Beverly and their six children. Their son, Brandon T. Jackson, was 11 at the time. He went on to West Bloomfield High School. In 2017, Bishop Wayne T. Jackson sold the home for $2.5 million. The last public asking price was $9 million in 2023. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit #PalmerWoods #JohnSalley

Bryann Hill is a current student at Ferris State University majoring in Social Work and the owner of two small businesses called “B’s Tasty Foods” and a clothing brand called “It’s Okay To Be You”. She watched her mom sell dinners and cheesecake to support their family growing up. With her social work degree, Bryann wants to build a food kitchen or food truck to help feed those that are homeless in Detroit. She created the brand “It’s okay to be you” because she has grown up in a society that has torn down Black people in many ways. In 1970, Stevie Wonder married singer Syreeta Wright. The wedding was held in Detroit at Greater Burnette Baptist Church at the old location near West Warren. The late and great Rev. Dr. James Allen Caldwell officiated the service and JET Magazine reported on it. Stevie and Syreeta met in 1968 while both signed to Motown Records and would be married for two years. “You and I” is a classic off the ‘Talking Book’ album. Stevie recorded it in 1972 and dedicated it to his ex-wife. It’s a unique break-up song because the lyrics look back on the best times of their union. In 1992, Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson married in Chicago. Rev. Jesse Jackson’s daughter, Santita, sang Stevie Wonder’s “You and I” at the wedding. On Good Times, Michael also performed it at Thelma’s wedding. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit #StevieWonder #SyreetaWright

Big block gators, the same color as Now and Laters. The hottest item on the streets of the Motor City in the ‘80s, ‘90s, ‘00s didn’t have four wheels. Alligator or crocodile-skin shoes are for everyone in Detroit, including the pastor at New Bethel Baptist, the judges at 36th District, the hustlers at Flood’s, the autoworkers at Ford Rouge, and the young men going to prom at King High in 2003. Mauri Italian gators were the shoe or gym shoe brand of choice in Detroit. Marc Clarke of City Slicker was the first to sell Mauri Gators in Detroit and was the largest seller of the brand in the country at one point. City Slicker opened in downtown Detroit in 1979 and is still in operation. George Reed at City Slicker said he had to order Kwame Kilpatrick’s custom size 15 gators straight from Italy. A who’s who of Black Detroiters and celebrities have sported gator shoes, including Judge Craig Strong, Pastor Wayne T. Jackson, Cecil Fielder, and even Mike Tyson stopped by City Slicker to buy some gators during the 2006 Super Bowl in Detroit. Even the ladies have a line of Mauri gator shoes. Whether Mauri or Fennix, gators were offered in close to 150 color-and-style combinations, from electric blue to pastel pink, ranging in price from a few hundred dollars to $3,000 for custom orders straight from Milan, Italy. Showing off the gators and Cartier Woods is the most Detroit thing I’ve ever seen. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #MauriGators #Gators #CitySlicker #Detroit

By all accounts, his classmates at Southfield and DP didn’t know him as Blade Icewood then. He was just Darnell. Spelman College’s motto is “Our Whole School For Christ.” It was founded in 1881 in Atlanta as a seminary school to educate Black women. The first college degrees at Spelman weren’t awarded until 1901. Prior to that, Black women earned their high school diploma from Spelman Seminary, including MLK’s mother, Alberta Christine Williams. Estelle Roosevelt Bailey Webster (3rd photo) also earned her high school diploma from Spelman Seminary, in 1924. When the school was renamed Spelman College that same year, Estelle continued her education and earned a B.A. degree from Spelman College in 1929. She migrated to Detroit with her husband Joseph Webster in 1932, becoming one of the first Black families to live on the Westside. The couple met at the AUC where Joseph attended Morehouse College. Mrs. Webster was a librarian and historian, and founder of the Detroit Chapter of the Spelman College Alumnae Association in 1931. She joined the ancestors in 1996. Mrs. Webster’s daughter, Janet, followed in her mother’s footsteps to Spelman College, graduating in 1958. She was a member of many clubs at Spelman, including the Granddaughter Club and Associate Editor of the yearbook. She was an educator for over 40 years for DPS. When it was time for Janet’s daughters, Hilary and Alyson to leave Detroit Cass Tech and M.L. King High schools for college, of course they chose Spelman. Or Spelman chose them. Hilary graduated in 1993 and Alyson in 1996, becoming third-generation Spelmanites. If the names sound familiar, Mrs. Janet Webster and Mrs. Alyson Jones are the owners of Source Booksellers on Cass Ave. in Midtown Detroit. It’s thee best bookstore in the City of Detroit. Oh, don’t you wish you were a Spelman woman. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit #SpelmanCollege #Spelman #DetroitSpelman

Lawanda Williams was like a mother to her six younger siblings and she was only 9 years of age. She fed them when they were left home alone and walked with them on the mean streets of Detroit’s Eastside to Campbell Elementary School. Lawanda did all she could for herself, Nikia, Dakwan, Laquinten, Venus, Anthony, and Mark, trying to escape a fire that engulfed their home on Mack Ave. and Chene on February 17, 1993. Had the home not been a fortress, equipped with bars on the windows and dressers blocking the exits, Lawanda could have saved herself and her siblings. Their parents, Leroy Lyons and Shereese Williams, left the home to find scrap metal to sell. Leroy said the heat was disconnected because of an unpaid $225 bill, so he set fire to old newspapers to thaw the pipes to keep the kids warm. Six of the children had their funeral held at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church. Dr. Charles G. Adams said charges against the parents would be inappropriate. The youngest child, Mark, had his home going held at James H. Cole Funeral Home. Pepsi helped pay for their funerals. Leroy and Shereese were charged with involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of their children. A jury acquitted the couple in October of 1993, stating they had already been through enough. Leroy was later found guilty in 1999 of a double-murder from 1987. The Mack Avenue Fire changed the way fire prevention was being taught in DPS schools in the ‘90s. The home at 2258 Mack was over 100 years old and originally belonged to the Campau family of Detroit. It once belonged on their farm and the street just east of the home was named after Joseph Campau. A mural of the children was painted on the home before it was eventually demolished. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit

Anita Wiley was found dead inside of a burning abandoned home on Detroit’s Eastside in 1987. She had been strangled and expecting another child. But Anita’s family would not identify her body until 2020. Anita’s son, Antonio Wiley, who was 15 when his mother was murdered, has a podcast with Anita’s sister, journalist Tonya Mosley. It’s titled “She Has A Name” and details the life, murder, and later discovery of Anita Wiley. After decades of searching for his mother, Antonio Wiley received a call in 2020 that his mother’s body was found at a cemetery in Michigan for unidentified bodies. She was just 29 when her life was taken. A person of interest in the case is Leroy Lyons, who had known Anita Wiley. He’s serving a double-life sentence for killing his niece and her boyfriend in 1987 over $900. He shot the boyfriend, stuffed him in the trunk of a car, and set it on fire. His niece’s body was never found. That conviction didn’t come until 1999. In 1993, Leroy was acquitted for the murder of his seven children at a home near Mack and Chene. He said he lit newspapers on fire to unthaw pipes while he went out to make money. The house caught on fire but the kids couldn’t escape because of bars on the windows and bolts on the doors. The oldest child was 9. Listen to the “She Has A Name” podcast on Apple or Spotify. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit #AnitaWiley

In 1987, investigative journalist Barry Michael Cooper wrote an article for The Village Voice titled “Kids Killing Kids: New Jack City Eats Its Young.” Cooper’s article was typical “Detroit bashing” for its time. It was the ‘80s in Detroit, the murder rate was at an all-time high, the crack epidemic had a stronghold over the city, and gangs like Y.B.I. and the Chambers Brothers were profiting from their harm. For his article, Cooper visited Detroit to experience what was going on in the Motor City. He wrote on figures like Mayor Coleman A. Young and James H. Cole Jr., the World African Festival, and a newly built mode of transportation that circled downtown Detroit called the People Mover. He also detailed the other side of Detroit. People like Henry “Blaze” Marzette and the Errol Flynn Gang. He noticed most of the killing and crack-selling in Detroit was being done by young people, many who grew up in Black middle-class homes in the ‘60s and ‘70s. He called this group “new jacks.” One particular group of new jacks that operated on Detroit’s Eastside were the Chamber Brothers. They were part of the tail end of the Great Migration, moving to Detroit from Arkansas in the 1980s. The brothers, Willie, BJ, Larry, and Otis, sold crack in Detroit, bring in millions of dollars. They took over an entire apartment building on East Grand Boulevard called the Broadmoor to sell their crack. Cooper linked with Quincy Jones and Clarence Avant to turn his article into a screenplay about the lives of crack dealers and users in America. He used the life of notorious Harlem heroin dealer Nicky Barnes as the lead character and used crews like Y.B.I. and the Chambers Brothers in Detroit to show how they were able to seize control of Black communities. In 1991, the movie was released in theaters staring Wesley Snipes as Nino Brown, leader of the Cash Money Brothers and Carter Aparments. New Jack City grossed nearly $50,000,000! Detroit was New Jack City. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit #YBI #NewJackCity

Beatrice Blount (left) and her daughter Constance Blount (right) were part of Detroit’s Black elite. They were heirs to Louis C. Blount’s fortune. He was a founder of Great Lakes Mutual Life Insurance Company and died in 1967. Contance Blount was the only Black graduate in her business class at Wayne State University in 1947. She pledged AKA, was a Co-Ette Club member, and even married a Harvard grad in 1957. She divorced her first husband and married Wallace Marshall, who owned a shoe repair store on Linwood. After her father’s passing, Constance still sat on the Board of Directors for his company. On August 19, 1974, Constance, her husband Wallace, mother Beatrice, and her mother’s nurse, Beatrice Williams, were all butchered to death at the family home on LaSalle Boulevard near Boston-Edison. Wallace Marshall (52) was found with a butcher’s knife in his neck. Constance (48) was found with a meat cleaver in her head. Beatrice Williams (36) was beaten to death with a meat cleaver. And Mrs. Beatrice Blount (70), already bedridden, died weeks later after part of her jaw was chopped off. Evidence at the scene pointed to the killer as being left-handed and wearing an Afro. Semen was found on the victims. A few weeks later, Wallace Marshall’s son Mark “Big Block” Marshall was arrested and charged with the slayings. He was a lefty and had an Afro. Marshall went to trial twice for the murders, ending in a mistral in 1977 and a hung jury in 1978. Already hanging around guys from his Russell-Woods neighborhood near Dexter Ave., Mark “Big Block” Marshall allegedly took money from his father’s life insurance to co-found a notorious Detroit street gang that used kids to move and sell drugs. They called themselves “Young Boys Incorporated” and were known to wear red for the blood they shed and white for the cocaine they sold. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit #YBI

Black Nationalist Malcolm X was born May 19, 1925. While in Detroit, he lived at this home at 18827 Keystone on the city’s Eastside with Nation of Islam leader, Robert X, and his wife. He paid no rent and stayed in the guest room. The home is located near East 7 Mile and Ryan in the Krainz Woods neighborhood. Like the Conant Gardens, Krainz Woods was a thriving African American neighborhood back in the 1950s when Malcolm X lived there off and on. Before he was Robert X, Robert Davenport was a former Negro League baseball player and had been with the N.O.I. since its inception in Black Bottom Detroit. Wilfred Little also lived on Mackay Street in the area, probably before moving to Inkster. Malcolm X has deep Detroit roots. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #MalcolmX #NationofIslam #NOI #KrainzWoods #Detroit #7Mile #blackhistory

Yesterday makes the 70th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education, which declared racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional, regardless of the schools’ equality in quality. This 1954 ruling was grounded in the 14th Amendment. On September 19, 2016, a similar case, Gary B v. Michigan, was filed in Detroit by seven students seeking a constitutional right to quality education, emphasizing the necessity of literacy as a fundamental building block of education. The Gary B lawsuit, also known as the “Detroit Right to Literacy Lawsuit,” highlighted significant disparities in literacy levels among Michigan students and cited violations of the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment. This lawsuit aimed to establish literacy as a constitutional right, reflecting the same principles that underpinned the Brown v. Board decision. A historic settlement was reached on May 13, 2020, with $97 million allocated to support quality education in Michigan. This settlement reaffirmed the notion that every child deserves access to quality education, irrespective of race or economic status, and marked nearly 66 years since the Brown v. Board of Education decision by underscoring literacy as a constitutional right. Key figures connected to these cases include Ruby Bridges-Hall, who desegregated the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in 1960 at age six, and Detroit Osborn alum Jamarria Hall, a lead plaintiff in the Detroit Right to Literacy Lawsuit and a 2017 alumnus of Osborn High School. Hall has established The Gary B Initiative to advance social change through education, focusing on youth-centric educational organizing to foster political and educational awareness, cultivated by abstract concepts transferred to Academic Vocabulary. The Shock were the sister team of the Detroit Pistons and the first WNBA expansion franchise to win a WNBA Championship. Coached by Pistons legend Bill Lambeer, the Shock featured WNBA greats like Swin Cash, Cheryl Ford, Deanna Nolan, Barbara Farris, Dominique Canty, Kara Braxton, Lynette Woodard, Ruth Riley, Katie Smith, and others. In 2009, the Detroit Shock unfortunately relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, retaining the Shock name. #repost• COME ON POP WINANS David “Pop” Winans was born April 20, 1934 in Detroit to Carvin Winans and Lauren Glenn. He began singing as a young child in his grandfather’s (Bishop I.W. Winans) church, Mack Avenue Congregation Church of God in Christ in Black Bottom. He didn’t take the Winans name until later in his life at the request of his grandfather. Around 1950, he met Delores Ransom while singing in the Lucylle Lemon Choir. They went on to have 10 children: David II, Ronald, twins Carvin and Marvin, Michael, Daniel, Benjamin “BeBe”, Priscilla “CeCe”, Angelique, and Debra. Once his children were born, Pop Winans stopped singing to manage them and preach. He even worked at the Dodge Main Plant to support his family. Like their children, David and Delores Winans were gifted musically and released their first album together in 1989 titled “Mom & Pop Winans.” It was nominated for a Grammy. Pop Winans was nominated for a solo Grammy in 2000 for best traditional gospel album, “Uncensored,” which featured the hit single “This Train.” #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Winans #Detroit #Gospel #COGIC #popwinans

In 1996, Grant Hill was in his second season with the Detroit Pistons, averaging 20 points per game. He was single at the time and had a conversation with singer Anita Baker about not having found the perfect woman for him just yet. That same year, Anita Baker met Tamia Washington, a native of Windsor, at the Soul Train Awards. She, too, was single and Anita Baker had the bright idea of introducing her to Grant Hill. Tamia and Grant didn’t officially meet each other until a few months later in 1996, but it was Anita Baker made that love connection. She showed up this time. Lula Mae Hardaway needed to escape an abusive relationship in Saginaw, Michigan with the father of her children, Calvin Judkins. He had a connection to get them into the newly built housing projects in Detroit called the Brewsters, so she needed him just one more time. He wasn’t taking care of their blind 4-year-old son, Stevland, so her plan was to leave him. The Judkins family arrived in Detroit in 1954 and lived in apartment 2701 inside the Brewster Projects. Lula Mae worked hard, saved $8,000 without her husband’s help and found a home at 3347 Breckenridge on the Westside. A woman sold it to her. She left without telling Calvin Judkins, but had to leave behind her son’s piano. When her son grew up to become Little Stevie Wonder and signed with Motown Records, Berry Gordy Jr. said he could not have Lula Mae and her kids living on Breckenridge. So, in 1964 he bought them a home in the Bagley neighborhood at 18074 Greenlawn for $18,000. It was still predominately white then. Stevie Wonder’s mother went through a lot to make him the legend he is today! What a great story she has. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit #LulaMaeHardaway #StevieWonder #MotownRecords #BerryGordy #EverybodyFromDetroit #MothersDay

Inspiring! Repost from @blackdetroiters: (Matel “Matt” Dawson Jr. earned $23.47 an hour as a forklift operator at Ford Motor Company in Detroit. Yet, he was one of the biggest philanthropists in the city? How did he do it? Matel Dawson saved his money, worked overtime, didn’t buy useless material things, lived modest in Highland Park, drove a 1985 Ford Escort, and invested in the stock market to give well over $1 million to institutions like Wayne State, LSU, the UNCF, and the NAACP so that students could attend college. A native of Louisiana, Mat Dawson Jr. came to Detroit in 1936 to escape racial discrimination in the South and find prosperity in the North. He found that in the plant and spent 60 years working there. Mat Dawson Jr. joined the ancestors in 2002. He was 81. “I’ve owned big homes and big cars and that don’t excite me no more. In the late 1990s, USC student and budding film director Rick Famuyiwa was working on a film about growing up in his hometown of Inglewood, California. He was working on the film with his professor, a Black Detroiter named Dr. Todd Boyd. Known as the “Notorious Ph.D.,” Dr. Boyd visited Inglewood and brought Rick Famuyiwa to Detroit to see where he was from. He took him to a famous shoe store in downtown called City Slicker where Famuyiwa learned about Mauri alligator shoes. Their film premiered in theaters on July 16, 1999. It was titled “The Wood.” Boyd played Rev. Parker in the movie. It’d be difficult to find a human who knows more about and better understands Black culture than Dr. Todd Boyd. He’s lived it, made films about it, authored books on it, and has appeared in several documentaries on Black culture. His pioneering work makes connections across film, music, hip hop, art, sports, fashion, and politics. Dr. Todd Boyd grew up near the Lafayette Park neighborhood of Detroit and began college at the University of Florida. He dropped out, returned home and finished his undergrad work at Wayne State University while working for WDIV Channel 4. He earned his master’s degree and PhD from the University of Iowa. In 1992, Dr. Boyd began his professorial career at USC where he remains today as the Katherine and Frank Price Endowed Chair for the Study of Race and Popular Culture and Professor of Cinema and Media Studies in the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. Kalvin Porter’s five children watched him die next to pump No. 2 outside of a Sunoco gas station at Gratiot and Mack on Detroit’s Eastside. He was beaten and choked to death with a tire iron on May 14, 1999 by two attendants working in the gas station who were said to have made rude comments to Porter’s 12-year-old daughter. An argument and scuffle ensued between the three men. Porter’s children even tried to help him but were thrown off like rag dolls by the men — Adel Altam and Fadhel Mazeb. The gas station’s owner, Steve Mallah, offered his condolences and a financial donation to the Porter family, shifting blame to his former employees after community groups like New Millenium picketed outside his business, leaving it closed and without gas indefinitely. The two men were charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kalvin Porter but charges were dismissed against Altam, and Mazeb was found not guilty by a jury in May 2000. Fearing retaliation, the two men went back home to Yemen. The case further heightened tensions among Black Detroiters and Arab-Americans in the metro Detroit area. Kalvin Porter was 34. His death was blamed on cocaine use and a bad heart. #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit #KalvinPorter

In 1992, Detroit Public Schools named a school after an educator who dedicated her life to teaching her students about true African history, art, and culture. It was named the Catherine C. Blackwell Institute of International Studies, Commerce, and Technology and located on Detroit’s Eastside. Catherine Carter Blackwell was born December 10, 1919 in Detroit and raised in the Old Westside neighborhood near Grand River and Tireman. Like many in her neighborhood, she attended McMichael Intermediate School and Northwestern High School. She earned her college degree from Howard University. In 1955, Catherine C. Blackwell began teaching in DPS and did so for the next 39 years until her retirement in 1994. She wasn’t happy about how the continent of Africa was portrayed in school books and began taking trips to Africa to teach her students what she learned there. Beginning in 1960, Catherine C. Blackwell had taken 65 trips to 41 countries in Africa and collected close to 1,000 artifacts. Many of them have been donated to the Charles H. Wright Museum and Howard University. In 1993, she was inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame. Mrs. Catherine C. Blackwell joined the ancestors in 2014 at age 94 in Detroit. @blackwell.institute #BlackDetroiters #BlackDetroit #Detroit #CatherineCBlackwell #Africa #howarduniversity #DetroitNorthwestern

“Multifaceted” is the word that best describes Mrs. Paris Matthews. Through all her life challenges and pursuit of her goals, she has handled everything with poise and grace. Many people know Paris for her high fashion sense, but Paris’ God-given abilities have enabled her to build a successful professional career as well, with experience working in the technology, marketing, and sales industry for over ten years. A Detroit King alumna, she also earned her master’s degree in Project Management from the University of Detroit-Mercy while working full time. After seeing some of the issues her husband experienced operating a full-service restaurant, Paris came up with the concept of starting a franchise called “The Smackin” offering fast American cuisine with a southern flair. Alongside The Smackin, two new editions were added — “The Smackin Soul” which is currently in its soft opening and “8 West” which should be opened by fall 2025.   With many more goals and aspirations to accomplish, Paris looks forward to using her testimony as encouragement for other women, sharing her wisdom and experience with those who are trying to balance being a wife and mother, or who are simply trying to navigate their way through life.   Paris and her restaurants are giving away free dinners this weekend for Mother’s Day.
