Time truly flies! We’ve been so busy planning events, retreats, and balancing our personal lives that we missed celebrating our BIRTHDAY! Back in April 2019, we hosted our very first retreat on the beautiful island of Ibiza. 5 yrs....holy shit!!!! What a ride it's been. We've been through Hell and back and are committed to doing whatever it takes to keep this thing going!!! We met just before the world went completely crazy, then we battled and survived all the bullshit that was thrown at us when many saw a different side or different views than their partners and called it quits. Our foundation has always been rock solid, so keep throwing shit at us. It only makes us stronger. But don't get me wrong, it hasn't been rainbows and unicorns the whole time. It took me a long time to fully commit to being in this relationship cus I've been married before, and after that experience, I made myself happy, being alone. I told Alysha at the beginning that this was the last time I'm doing this, so if we're doing this, we'd do whatever it took to make it work. This year, we're taking steps to be the best version of ourselves individually and as a couple. I see too many people pretending to be happy online when I know what's really happening behind the cell phone screen. If you can say to yourself that your person is genuinely someone you wanna be with but bicker and fight over dumb shit constantly....go talk about it. Along the way through this story, our lives have been filled with tons of adventure, travel, and exposure to get us to where we are today! To us, there is no better education than travel. We’ve tried to visit, and meet as many places as we could along the way since we were just kids. Along the way we’ve collected notes, shared thoughts, pictures and more about the things we’ve enjoyed the most. I’ll never forget the time when Tony took mom and myself to Trouble Coffee in San Francisco in the early 2000’s. It was a visit that would change life forever! A simple coffee, great hospitality, and just a moment. What is it that you find joy in at your local cafe? Is it always about the coffee? Or is it the team? The people you’ve visited the cafe with? Or all of it? To cap the week, we want to remind everyone that this Sunday, we will be celebrating 5 years of Mom ‘n ‘em here at our Camp Washington location. Some of you probably had no idea, but we used to have a barbershop & espresso bar in downtown Cincinnati! In 2016, we walked by our great uncle Fausto’s barbershop on Garfield place, and noticed it was in pretty bad shape. It needed love, and we sparked the idea of bringing it back to life, and putting an espresso bar inside of it. It would serve as our beginning act while we waited around for city approval on Mom ‘n ‘em in Camp Washington. The barbershop was called Ferrari Barber & Coffee Co. It is when mom really learned her skills working on our La Marzocco Linea Mini. It was a simple little setup, and so very unique. Our great uncle on our dad’s side use to own the place, and has since the 50’s with our grandfather. As time went on, the both of them took a step back, we found that we wanted to give the place life again, to continue their name in this city. It was such a cool place. Come grab a haircut from one of the barbers, or just pop in for a cappuccino and hang outside with friends. A lot of people didn’t understand, while a lot of folks did. It was very unique for its time, that’s for sure! We miss that little shop on Garfield, but we are grateful for that necessary step that helped us build our little spot we know as Mom ‘n ‘em today ❣️ #5yrs #momnemcoffee

Once upon a time, we had a cafe in San Francisco, and that’s where Mom first learned her barista skills 😍 Tony and I lived in San Francisco for nearly ten years, it was quite an amazing time in life. Austin moved out there after high school at Walnut Hills, and got a job at Chez Panisse Cafe. Tony moved there after college at Johnson & Wales University in Miami, Florida & traveling throughout Italy and Thailand cooking his heart out. Never let a fence come in your way. Traveling was always the best education my brother & I have ever received, and it’s helped create a vision for what we see at Mom ‘n ‘em today. Can’t repeat this more enough for students that visit us to help them with their business plans & goals. Don’t forget to travel, see the world, it will help you identify so much you want to get out of your dreams! While we were in San Francisco, we both opened a cafe in a small neighborhood called Potrero Hill. It doesn’t exist today, due to the difficulties of Covid in 2020, and honestly due to the fact that we moved away, and trying to run the business from nearly half way across the country just was not feasible at the time! Our little shop was called Provender, and it was a memorable, and an amazing place we built in that city. Mom would come to visit often in SF, and we would explore the city, eating & drinking, and catching up on life. We also had her help us in the cafe once in a while, and this was her first introduction to coffee. We knew she was already in love with coffee, but immersing herself in the labor behind it I think she found tons of joy! This is also where the first steps to our logo began 🫶 where mom’s smile was replicated by a caricature artist. Those beginning steps for not only mom, but all of us were so important. It taught us several lessons, helped us connect with so many amazing humans that we know today. It also led us to build such an iconic place we know as Mom ‘n ‘em ❤️ #5yrs #momnemcoffee

Originally, this big house was supposed to be Tony’s home. It was never intended to be for Mom ‘n ‘em, as our original plan was supposed to be located inside of a massive airstream trailer in the garden on the left side of the building. After a series of constant flights back home to visit with the city council, and the building department, it came to be that the airstream trailer idea was just silly. Very cool, and unique to us, but silly to some that were needed to sign off on it! We fought for nearly three years to get approval for our project, and eventually we did, but after we reviewed the financial aspect of making this land yacht airstream trailer dream our permanent structure on the land for a coffee shop, well, it just did not make sense. We decided, what about the house? It’s just sitting there, and yes, Tony is supposed to live there, but instead we could put the cafe there. We revisited the plans with our architect, Daniel from SF, and reformatted the drawings to fit inside the house. With more space, we decided we would love to have wine. Austin is a sommelier by trade, and having one would be so fun to compliment the cafe where some folks may want a glass rather than a coffee, or to take a fun bottle home for the evening. We call it uppers & downers, ha! 2018 we had the final drawings in hand for Mom ‘n ‘em inside the big house on the cozy corner here in Camp Washington. It’s been an adventure for sure, and it’s funny to look back and think about our business plan. It changed real quick! For anyone planning a business, we think it’s great to keep an open mind that things along the path to your business will change. You have to be ready to pivot, and have an open mind about the things that get thrown in your pathway. We love the house. The big house we know as Mom ‘n ‘em ❤️ #5yrs #momnemcoffee
