Cola de Caballo Every once in an awhile when the family took our annual summer trip to Monterrey we got to do something special. In the summer of 1969 my brother Rolando and I got to ride donkeys at the Cola de Caballo (horsetail falls) in Santiago NL. just south of Monterrey. It turned out to be a great photo of a group of spectators watching a beautiful church full of arches being demolished with the help of a large crane with a claw on it. I wonder what the reason for demolition was? Building something new and better or was there some disaster that occurred like a fire? November 1944 Wren boat crews Plymouth. “Inches” Yvonne Trewin, of Paignton, the smallest member of the crew, makes a big leap ashore to make fast as the boat comes alongside. Hazel Morris, of Erdington, Warwickshire, hands her friend Gladys Carter an early morning cup of tea in her hammock in their tiny quarters on board. The Wrens who crewed the Navy’s small craft were an elite group in a highly prized job. Competition to become a boat crew Wren was fierce and senior Wrens willingly took a drop to a lower rate to join them. The first training course was held at Plymouth in the autumn of 1941 and from the start the girls were a huge success. Many already had a background in boating but even those who did not, took to the water and worked happily on the boats. The Wren Coxswains manned most of the duty boats, some as large as 60 ft long. JULI 2024 Im Umkreis der Kölner Progressiven ist sie nicht die Einzige, die mit der Kamera arbeitet, ebenso wie sie ist auch der Kölner Fotograf August Sander eng mit der Gruppe verbunden, er portraitiert ihre Mitglieder und reproduziert ihre Werke. In seinen Studien, der Mensch beschäftigt sich Sander seit Mitte der Zwanziger Jahre mit der Darstellung einzelner Partien des menschlichen Körpers, setzt Ohren, Augen, Hände aus nächster Distanz ins Bild. Die bis ins Detail gehende Ähnlichkeit zwischen der Aufnahme einer Hand von August Sander und Stegemeyers Fotografie ottos hand – Zeigegestus, neutraler Hintergrund, der am seitlichen bzw. unteren Bildrand knapp sichtbar werdende Ärmel – legen allerdings den Schluss nahe, dass es August Sanders Serie ist, die Stegemeyer hier als Vorbild dient. _______ She is not the only one in the circle of Cologne Progressives to work with a camera; like her, the Cologne photographer August Sander is also closely associated with the group, taking portraits of its members and reproducing their works. In his Studien, der Mensch, started in the mid 1920’s, Sander is concerned with the depiction of individual parts of the human body, photographing ears, eyes and hands at close range.
