I'm proud to say my beloved Turkish from @snyderspindles is back in use! This spindle travels in my bag a lot, and although I try to pad it and be careful, I found it broken a few days ago when I went to use it. Just like a hole in my sock, I do my best to mend my spindles and tools. I'm really enjoying this little 3D printed Turkish-style spindle from @catandsparrowfibres. The colours are so cute, and the shaft glows in the dark! While of course I adore my beautiful handmade wooden spindles, I know that they can be hard to get hold of. So I love the idea of having an affordable locally produced option that I can easily direct people too. This is the medium sized "Persian" spindle, it has a lovely spin and a nice solid feel. I did use a bit of sandpaper to smooth the tip, because my fingers are sensitive! Iโve really been enjoying spinning yarn on my wheel recently. However, I am aware that as the weather improves I am going to spend less and less time at home indoors. This means that portability becomes increasingly important. One of the joys of knitting is its portability and I certainly plan to knit in as many places as possible this year. However, by swapping my wheel for a simple drop spindle I can do the same with my spinning. Drop spindles have a particular place in my heart. Whenever I watch a programme about archaeology and they unearth the whorl from a drop spindle I feel a connection with generations of women creating thread to clothes for themselves and their community. I love that cops from Turkish/crossbar spindles are called that โ I am turtle clan (Haudenosaunee), so itโs, ahem, turtles all the way down in this family. ๐ฅฐ๐ข The turtle on the bottom right is from a colorway design based on wampum belts. :) The little hearth turtle is one I picked up from a local Haudenosaunee artisan last time I was back on our rez.

I have been obsessed with processing my raw fleeces lately and spinning up little sample skeins of a single origin sheep. Iโve enjoyed getting to know each fleece and breed, and how they behave when washing, carding, and spinning. Yesterday I hand carded some of sheep 175, a multicolored Gulf Coast Native sheep. Itโs so fluffy and squishy! Spun on my @carry.cherry apply wood tiny.

A very painful chain ply. I'm not sure if it was because the single was inconsistent (it was), or because there were so many pills along the way, or because of lack of skill in chain plying (so much lack), but this was really hard to ply, and I'm really not pleased with the result. The first two photos were taken by my friend and โfiber guruโ Nancy. She was at the table all last weekend talking about weaving and spinning. Both of which she is brilliant at. She had gotten one of my Turkish spindles and has been spinning away this week. She was kind enough to take these photos of her alpaca spin. This spindle has a white oak whirl with a sapele shaft. It made me realized that I did not get a shot of any of the spindles except for the third photo in this post. This was late Saturday when I had put out all that was left. So I thought I would come on to the feed and ask any of the lovely customers who snagged one if they would post their spindles doing their thing. It would be something that I would love to see๐.
