This year’s Festival of Cranes (FOC) seemed to have record attendance. Lots of people apparently now know about the Whooping Cranes migrating with tens of thousands of Sand Hill Cranes from Wisconsin. We are happy to have seen two of the reported Whooping Cranes today. We started coming to see the Cranes in 2019 and enjoy seeing & hearing them again each winter. #sandhillcranesmigration #whoopingcranes

Three Whooping cranes to include one immature Whooping crane. What a scene! They were near extinction and now number around 500 as of 2017 count. They are found from Canada to Mexico. I have been blessed to see them a few times. Lifer of an immature Whooper. Sound on 🔈 They come to dance. They come to dance when the earth is unfreezing and parched and cracked. They come to dance for 10,000 years past since the Platte was born, and will for 10,000 more. They come to dance - prehistoric - whether or not a river flows, whether or not industrialized corn litters the ground, or whether or not wars are waged. They dance amidst the dining, the fueling for their journey. They dance to find love and make sure they can carry-on, and to show the young the way. They dance, and show us how and why we must as well. #SandhillCranes #PlatteRiver #SandhillCranesMigration #SandhillCranesNebraska #NebraskaPhotography #NebraskaBirds

With the arrival of cooler days and migratory birds beginning to arrive in their southern destinations I find myself looking back at this beautiful but ironically icy Arizona morning last January. #whitewaterdraw #birdingphotography #wildlifephoto #arizonaphotographer #sandhillcranesmigration

Our road trip this weekend was for the birds! The Sandhill cranes, to be exact. Every March half a million cranes land in Nebraska where they spend weeks feeding along the Platte River Valley where they rest and feed on the corn and grain left in the farmers’ fields on their way to Canada and Eastern Siberia. I’ve wanted to see this sight for many years. It was as good as I expected! I’ll have more pictures here and in stories this week
