South Dakota you were a gem! First stop the @greengiant statue in Blue Earth, MN (because, why not?)Second, Corn Palace in Mitchell,SD, followed by a stop in Wall Drug (a few hours were spent here, bought a real cowboy hat). We drove through @badlandsnps, which was incredible! Took the @1880train through the Black Hills and drove through @custerstateparksd to see the fluffy cows and drive the needles highway! Die „Begging Burros“ im Custer State Park in South Dakota haben keine Scheu vor Menschen. Spent the day exploring historic and apparently haunted Deadwood. Started the day exploring Broken Boot Gold Mine then watched the kiddos pan for gold. Went to #jacobsbrewhouse for delicious drinks and lunch. Learned about the history of the area and @cortneybechtel and I learned about deadwoods shady past and visited the museum where Wild Bill Hickok played his last card game. The kids loved @deadwood.alive street performances and meeting lots of real life cowboys and we ended the night at live music! My wish to pet wild donkeys came true last year. It was like a fairytale, a dream come true. That was pure bliss, a day I will never forget. These guys reside at Custer State Park in South Dakota. Apparently, they are auctioning off six of the offspring this year as they prefer to limit the herd number to eleven. The purpose is to keep their presence in the park to a manageable level. It’s been a tradition to care for these donkeys since 1919, when the park first opened. They’re ensured to go to well equipped and loving homes. I’m grateful for the experience I had last year with these adorable creatures.

Peu habitués à ce genre de situation, on a un peu paniqué quand nos téléphones se sont mis à sonner pour nous avertir que la ville et toute la région alentour était en alerte inondation. Mais quand on a vu que le réceptionniste du motel nous faisait des blagues du genre : "vous pouvez aussi profiter de notre piscine extérieure si ça vous tente", on s'est détendus un peu 😆 Le lendemain, grand soleil ☀️ On a pu se balader tranquillement dans la ville et s'amuser à lire le nom des présidents sur toutes les statues. Rapid City est plus un point de chute pour visiter les nombreux sites de la région. C'est une petite bourgade, mais elle ressemble tellement à l'idée qu'on se fait des petites villes dans films américains qu'on l'a vraiment kiffé. The road tripping bandana got to go on an amazing trip.🚗✈️ 🛫 Took this along with me through Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota🛬. 🐕🦺 At Mt. Rushmore we found a service dog to take the bandana along for even more adventures. Hopefully they are able to send me some pictures of the rest of their travels and if so I will share those as well. I keep my eye open now for bandanas in gift shops and shops and let me tell you they are rare so if you're wanting a special one for your travels then let me recommend you pick one up BEFORE you go. The only thing I knew about Sioux Falls, SD was that I used to send all my credit card checks there. And since I just came from a couple cities with similar names (Rapid City, Sioux City) with less than impressive downtown areas (maybe I missed something), I had low expectations for Sioux Falls. It was a very pleasent surprise, and one of the most beautiful small cities I've visited. Picture Philadelphia's Chestnut Hill with a gigantic, majestic, multi-tiered waterfall right in the middle of it. The waterfall is surrounded by beautiful city buildings, including an impressive church. A path around the falls leads right to a trendy main street filled with restaurants and quaint stores. At the time, the street was lined with dozens of sculptures on display for an art competition. Check out this great city if you ever get the opportunity! Road trippin’ to Mount Rushmore in 2021 vs the 90’s 🌲 It’s been so fun to re-create the road trip route I did as a little kid.
