London Trip Day 4-9 A word from Pauln🌈 As I was walking through Kensington Gardens, an Englishman called out to me and asked if I was there on holiday. Yes, that's right. They were surprised when I told them I was from Tokyo, Japan. Maybe the reason they were surprised was because he was walking around in a suit. Then they asked me, what are you doing? I replied that as you can see, I was just taking a walk. They wanted to ask, "No, where do you work?" I misheard and it was "Work" not "Wark".😅 This was also a good memory of the trip. The weather was nice that day, and it was heartwarming to see people taking walks and sitting on benches chatting. I was surprised by the cute cat's sudden appearance, so I called out to the gentleman sitting on the bench. I asked him if that was his cat and he said, "No." There was a round ring around its neck, so I guess it wasn't a stray cat, but one that had gotten separated from its owner. It was a beautiful sight and I felt so good, I thought to myself at that moment how glad I was to have come back from Heathrow. After this, I discovered something even more amazing. London Trip Day 4-8 A word from Pauln🌈 I couldn’t post for about two days because all my photos were lost. It took me a whole day to recover them without even going outside. But I managed to come back. I have only a few more posts about my trip to London. Please read my posts until the end. I was very satisfied after taking a quick look around the “Natural History Museum” and buying a miniature black taxi car. Oh, and I also bought a 250ml can of juice at the museum, which cost 3 pounds. I don’t know if this is high or normal.🤔 Next, I headed to Kensington Gardens. Being a bit directionally challenged, I didn’t know whether to go right or left, so I asked a lady who seemed to be British. The lady then told me that if I went straight down this road I would find the place. Kensington Palace was a wonderful building that could be called a symbol of England. Beautiful flowers were in full bloom, and there were swans in the pond. It was my first time to see an English garden, and I was very impressed and refreshed. When I returned to Japan, I looked at the guidebook again and found out that the “Diana Memorial Fountain” was also here. I loved Princess Diana very much. But unfortunately, she passed away in an accident. London Trip Day 4-7 A word from Pauln🌈 Not wanting to waste time or money, I hurriedly boarded the Heathrow Express back to central London. The first place we went to was the “Natural History Museum.” The reason we chose this place was because we wanted to leave our suitcases and large luggage there. Admission was free, but I paid 9 pounds because my luggage was heavy. Now that I was light on my feet, I hurried around the museum and found a souvenir shop. What I found there was a miniature car of a black taxi, a London specialty. I collect miniature cars as a hobby, so I bought it. Is it a bit strange to buy a miniature car at the Natural History Museum?😅 There are still four hours until the check-in time for my flight. My trip to London continues. The remaining 4 hours were the final highlight of my trip to London. London Trip Day 4-6 A word from Pauln🌈 After enjoying some shopping at the Abbey Road Studios Shop, we immediately took a taxi back to the hotel. However, I couldn’t relax because the taxi didn’t come for a long time. Then, a British man saw me and told me, “If you wait on that road, you can catch a taxi right away.” When I went there, I really was able to catch a taxi right away. Thankyou,gentleman.🙏 The reason why I went back to the hotel immediately was because the return flight I had booked was scheduled to depart at 7:20pm, flight JL044. I had already had enough fun in London, so I looked into it and found a flight at 1pm. Considering that “ORETACHI no TABI” starts on May 1st, I wanted to get back to Japan as soon as possible.✈️ So I grabbed my luggage that I had left at the hotel, took a taxi to Paddington Station, and took the Heathrow Express straight to Heathrow Airport. This is where the problem started. When I arrived at the airport, the JAL check-in counter was closed. But I couldn’t give up and asked a female staff member from British Airlines who was nearby. She said, “There is a phone at the check-in counter, so I should check it out.” I immediately used the phone at the check-in counter to inquire about changing my flight. When I enquired I was told it was possible to change but there would be a cancellation fee of £500 and a new ticket fee of £250.😮 When the JAL staff asked me, “What is the current exchange rate?” I answered, “It’s 200 yen,” but it turned out that it would cost about 150,000 yen to change my flight. Both the staff and I burst out laughing.😅 In the end, I decided to return on the flight I had originally booked. London Trip Day 4-5 A word from Pauln🌈 After doing a lot of shopping at the Abbey Road Studios Shop, I actually realized something. What I forgot to do was take the cover photo of Paul McCartney and his dog for the live album "Paul Is Live." However, there was no more time as I had to hurry back to the hotel. Ah, that's a shame. But someone told me, "If you forget anything, come back to London," so I'll be able to go back to London someday and that will solve the problem. I will definitely come back to London.👍 Then I pulled myself together and quickly got into a taxi and headed straight to the hotel. Let It Be is the twelfth and final studio album by The Beatles. It was released on 8 May 1970, almost a month after Paul had publicly announced his departure from the band (John had actually quit in January, while George also walked out during the recording of the Let It Be album and film). Although Let It Be topped album charts in several countries, including the UK and the US, many critics hated the record. Paul McCartney was annoyed and upset at much of Phil Spector's production, including adding choirs, harps and cheesy strings. London Trip Day 4-2 “ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS”Episode2🍏 A word from Pauln🌈 I finally played the piano at Abbey Road Studios, feeling like Paul McCartney. But I can’t play the piano. I can only tap the keys with my fingers. The tour of Abbey Road Studios was amazing, it was emotional to think that so many musicians released so many songs into the world in these studios. Naturally, I can’t help but feel moved by the fact that The Beatles wrote many songs in this studio, released them to the world, and became the most successful rock band in the world. It’s been almost half a century since I first fell in love with The Beatles, but I never expected a day like this to come. This will probably be the first and last time I have an experience like this. I am truly grateful to Fukushima Setsu for taking me on this journey. And thank you to everyone who joined us at Abbey Road Studios. We all took a commemorative photo. “멋지고, 쿨하고, 지적인” 음악을 좋아하는 이로서, 애정하는 이로서, 그리고 함께하는 이로서 이러한 다큐멘터리를 스쳐보낼 수는 없는 일이다. 여느 다큐 영화가 그렇듯이 상영관이 극도로 제한적이었고, 시간대 또한 그랬다. 그래도 달려가서 봤다. 즐거웠다. 차후엔 mtv계열의 다큐멘터리도 한두편 개봉했으면 좋겠다는 생각이 든다. 필자는 60년대의 락을 많이 아는 편은 아니다. 따지자면 90년대의 프로그레시브락에 더 익숙할뿐더러 이후엔 edm과 재즈 그리고 한류의 하나의 결인 비 아이돌계 kpop을 더 좋아한다. 그럼에도 그 과거의-이제는 60년도 더 지난- 음악을 듣다보면, 그 시대의 분위기가 느껴진다. 하나의 향수로서 내가 그곳에 가있는 듯한 느낌이 든다. 고전들을 읽으며 얻는 영감과 느낌이 그들의 음악속에서 느껴진다. 음악이란 실로 엄청난 문화임이 항상 경외롭다. 힙노시스라는 단어는 익숙치 않았다. 하지만, 그들의 작품은 나도 몇 기억하는 것들이 있는데 역시나 가장 유명한 pink floyd의 the dark side of moon 앨범커버는 하나의 개념 그 자체였다. 스톰과 폴은 교과서에 그려져 있던 ‘프리즘’의 개념을 세상에 재정립을 시켜주었다. 하나의 개념이 고정적인 형태를 탈피하고 새로운 인상을 주는 것, 프리즘 그 자체였다. 핑크플로이드의 다크사이드오브더문 앨범 또한 그랬으며, 그들의 음악 뿐만 아니라 앨범커버도 그랬었다. 이후 비틀즈의 band on the run도, 레드 제플린도, 10cc도 그렇다 노엘 갤러거 말마따나 ‘음악이 세상을 바꾸던 시대’에 걸맞는 이미지 그 자체였다. 이미지가 세상을 표상하던 시대가 비디오로 옮겨지며 락의 시대가 저물 때 그들은 더 이상 함께 할 수 없었다. 그리고 그들의 시대에 함께했던 이들과 그 시대를 이후에 즐기는 나는 그들에게 찬사 혹은 감사를 보낼 수밖에 없었다. 그들의 노력이 아니었다면, 지금 내가 향유하는 것들은 더욱더 밍밍했을 터이니 말이다. 2013년에 작고한 스톰을 기리며. .주저리주저리 중간중간 노엘갤러거가 딸을 언급하며 지금의 10대들이 음악을 어떻게 '소비'하는지 말해주는데 슬프기 그지 없었다. 이제 음악이란 소모재 혹은 소비품으로 전락해버린 느낌이 들기 때문이다. #SquaringtheCircleTheStoryofHipgnosis #힙노시스lp커버의전설 #AntonCorbijn #TrishDChetty #paulmaccartney #davidgilmour #jimmypage #robertplant #rogerwaters #noelgallagher #nickmason #carinthiawest #aubreypowell #grahamgoulman #glenmatlock #jennylesmoirgordon #merckmercuriasdis #petersaville #richardmanning #richardevans #humphreyocean #georgehardie #jillfurmanovsky
