Conditioned responses can trigger chronic pain and symptoms When the brain learns a certain activity or stimulus is dangerous, it will generate pain or symptoms to protect us from it (even though it’s not actually harmful!) Examples of conditioned responses can include: -Movements or postures -Sounds, lights, or noises -Weather changes, foods -Certain people or relationships We can break conditioned responses by changing our beliefs about what’s safe/dangerous, regulating the nervous system, and gradually exposing ourselves to fears. Vulnerable share ❤️ Lately I've been calling myself out on the parts of me I find ugly or shameful. But then remembering we all have parts to ourselves that protect us and keep us safe. Gift giving has always been my love language. There was a time I used it for my advantage, to get people to like me. The more gifts I gave the more I was seen, validated, liked. But it never truly got me what I desired. It made me feel special to do it in the moment but never was a lasting feeling. It wasn't until I did inner work, healed a lot and started to realise gift giving is part of me, when I gift others it produces endorphins throughout my body and it makes me feel alive, it softens my nervous system. The greatest gift I learned was to gift myself before I gift others. It's a constant journey of self discovery but when you find and link these parts of yourself, you set yourself free. I'm not perfect and I'll never strive to be but I know who I am and that's the most powerful tool I can have ❤️ What is your love language?❤️❤️

IBS symptoms are often exacerbated by stress calm or creative activity can help decrease the frequency and severity of IBS flare-ups, offering a non-pharmacological approach to symptom management. Engaging in creative activities such as painting, writing, or playing a musical instrument can serve as a distraction from the discomfort associated with IBS. Here are some of my usuals I try and start my day with:
 * Journaling after a great healing session, meditation or first thing in morning to bring in my good vibes * Stretching every day us aging adults need to incorporate it more! * Walking daily for 20 min! An active energizing way for clearing the field, energetic and mental! * Sit in the sun, in nature, just on the ground or in a sauna * Barefoot on the earth or touching a tree * EMF grounding tools from clothing to blankets * YouTUBE healing Solfeggio frequencies for pain relief to cellular healing.  432hz is a nice whole body, mind & spirit healing vibration * Dancing with very loud music!  I knew this uptight fancy lady in Moraga, California that had a killer sound system and blare her classical music at least 20min a day!! I was so impressed and empowered by her!

The easiest, quickest self-care tip I practice as a trauma therapist is unclenching my jaw. When I went to my first yoga class, towards the end, the instructor simply said “unclench your jaw.” I immediately realized that my jaw was, indeed, clenched, and it was so far outside my awareness. Do I clench my jaw a lot? How long have I been doing it? Why am I doing it? We often hold stress in our bodies without noticing. By consciously relaxing your jaw, you’re giving yourself permission to breathe easier and feel calmer. Take a deep breath... let it go... and feel the difference. 🌬️ Self-care doesn’t have to be an event. It doesn’t have to be a thing that you schedule, or plan, or make arrangements for. A lesson from my Oura Ring ⬇️ Like many people, I often find myself drawn to activities where my body is at rest but my mind stays active—like scrolling through my phone while watching TV. This combo feels relaxing in the moment, but it might actually be perceived as stressful to your body. We can end up burned out and fatigued if we’re not giving ourselves true rest and restoration. When we understand prickly as an autonomic defense mechanism it’s easier not to resent the discomfort from handling it. Hardy skin protects the softness inside from bruising while ripening to its fullest potential. Remember to protect what’s inside - a good little person struggling to let their guard down. 🍭Reframe syrupy sweet behavior🍭 When children are always sweet out of necessity, as opposed to choice, it’s an attempt to secure attachment. This too is a protective/defense mechanism known as appeasing or fawning - abandoning our true feelings or needs to safeguard our safety and sense of belonging. Fight, flight, freeze, and fawn are all autonomic responses instinctively activated in an attempt to protect authenticity and safeguard attachment. Freedom is learning how to recognize a stress response and knowing when to act on it or how to soothe it. This is best caught than taught and develops with maturity and safety. As a mom who’s been through the ups and downs of fatigue and feeling off, I’ve learned the hard way that true wellness isn’t just about diet or exercise – it’s about finding balance in every aspect of our lives. Today, I want to share how I found that balance through mental, emotional, and physical rest. 🧠 Mental Rest There was a time when my mind never seemed to stop. Between managing the household, taking care of my kids, and trying to keep up with my other responsibilities and committments, I felt mentally drained. I started practicing mindfulness meditation for just 10-15 minutes a day. It felt awkward at first, but slowly, I noticed my mind was clearer. Nature walks became my sanctuary. I’d leave my phone at home and just breathe in the sights and sounds around me. It was amazing how something so simple could refresh my mind. ❤️ Emotional Rest Emotionally, I was all over the place. I remember the relief I felt after a heartfelt conversation with a close friend. Just talking about what I was going through lifted a weight off my shoulders. I also started practicing gratitude. Each night, I’d jot down a few things I was thankful for. It shifted my focus from what was wrong to what was right in my life. Setting boundaries was tough but necessary. I learned to say no without feeling guilty, protecting my emotional energy. 👣 Physical Rest Physically, my body was crying out for rest. I committed to a regular sleep schedule, making sure I got enough sleep each night. With the encouragement of my husband, monthly massages became part of my routine. It helped relieve the physical tension I carried. And most importantly, I learned to listen to my body. When I felt exhausted, I allowed myself to rest. Finding balance through mental, emotional, and physical rest transformed my life. It’s a journey, and I’m still learning every day. But I’ve discovered that by taking small, practical steps, we can all find our way to better health and well-being. Perfectionism is a cultural norm that can make us sick! Perfectionism grows as a coping mechanism, helping us feel safety, love, respect, and belonging. This is especially true when we’ve experienced trauma and childhood adversity. Unfortunately, perfectionism causes shame, pressure, self-criticism, hypervigilance, and chronic pain and symptoms. Perfectionism causes us to live in a state of fight/flight, but our nervous system was not meant to function in this state for a prolonged period of time. Over time, this nervous system dysregulation cam trigger and perpetuate chronic pain/symptoms. A key aspect of healing is reducing perfectionism! When we rest, we do far more than just recover from feeling tired. Cellular repair takes place and we are also able to send our body consistent signals that there’s safety around us, which helps us know that we are allowed to move into a space of long-term recovery. Your brain is constantly scanning for threats (real or perceived) in your environment, and this activates other stress responses in the body, which inhibits important internal processes, like deep rest and social connection. To move out of this threat response pattern, you need to know what makes you feel calm and safe. These are your signals of safety - the signals that indicate to your body that it is safe to rest and recover. They will help your body know that the time of stress has passed and that it can start to recover and move back into the rest and digest, parasympathetic nervous system state. I’ve mentioned a lot in past posts about titrating your healing. So, what is titration? Titration is a word often used in the trauma field even though its origins are actually in the laboratory. When conducting a scientific experiment with chemical liquids, a device called a pipette is used which delivers small amounts, bit by bit, to the solution in the beaker or flask. This process of adding a liquid in small amounts is titration. In the context of healing, titration means to go slowly bit by bit at the pace of your nervous system to avoid re-traumatisation. Trauma is often defined as too much, too soon, too fast. The experience of living with chronic pain can be an on-going trauma (my POV) leading to dysregulation in your nervous system. In other words, your nervous system feels unsafe. If healing happens too fast - not titrated - this can often do more damage than good. Energy discernment is the ability to distinguish between different types of energies and influences that we encounter in our lives, and to choose those that align with our true selves, personal values, and highest good. It involves a deeper level of awareness and intuition that allows us to sense the quality and intention behind the energies we interact with, whether they come from people, places, activities, or even our own thoughts and emotions. When we practice energy discernment, we develop a keen sense of what feels uplifting, nurturing, and expansive versus what feels draining, negative, or constrictive. This doesn’t necessarily mean that everything we choose must always feel light and joyous; sometimes growth and learning come through challenges. However, discernment helps us to recognize when a challenge is a constructive part of our growth and when it is merely depleting or misaligned with our core being. There was a time two years ago when I was going through some very big challenges. What I came to realize is that while some of the issues were absolutely for my personal growth- to identify old childhood patterns, wounding and release areas of grief that had been perpetuating my current existence, a bigger revelation came about. I was simply misaligned in my life regarding my core needs and was allowing extremely depleting energies to be in my orbit; which as you can imagine, overtook my system in all facets. Once I got the clarity and courage to make changes, my life became infinitely more in flow. More aligned. More bliss and ease. It has stayed this way and become even more abundant and magical in ways I couldn’t have dreamed. Feeling stressed, anxious, or depressed? Listen to Beethoven (or Mozart, or other classical masterpieces). While breathing and meditation exercises, yoga, eating well, getting restful sleep, exercising and B vitamins and magnesium supplements can help the body mediate a stress response, turning on a classical tune may be the easiest activity to engage in when feeling overwhelmed or hopeless. Classical music can promote the brain to release secrete hormones and neurotransmitters such as endorphins, enkephalins, dopamine, and serotonin. Each of these ‘messengers’ has varied biological effects on your body, such as inducing relaxation. Additionally, the vibration and frequency of the notes, tones, and rhythms in classical music can influence the vagus nerve to put on the ‘vagal brake’ to engage ventral vagal pathways within the parasympathetic nervous system. Put classical music in your stress-busting toolbox. It’s one of many autonomic nervous system ‘hacks’ that we love to share with you all. We cannot heal ourselves with the same mindset that got us in this position. We have been conditioned all of our lives to put 100% into everything we do. The fastest, loudest, most busy person will be rewarded. That type of thinking is not beneficial when we are looking to shift our reality through nervous system-supportive techniques. We cannot force nervous system healing. It comes with softness and trust. The first way that we can support ourselves is finding windows of time that we can learn to be present without needing something to prove what we are doing is productive. Find small windows of nurturing where you do not have to rush. Ancestral traumas and wounds are passed down through the generations until someone is brave enough and conscious enough to want to heal them. It takes a degree of resilience and fortitude to be willing to look at your beliefs, behaviours and habits and unpick what's yours, what's not, and what you want to carry ahead with you. I have to admit, even though I've been doing this work for a long time, there aree still elements of my ancestral trauma that I'm just not ready to deal with as yet. And that's okay. You don't have to do it all at once. But if this work calls to you, then it's important to start tuning in - because our ancestors have not only passed along traumas but gifts (more on that in another post). Ancestral traumas can show up in subtle ways, such as: ✨ feeling like a fraud (imposter syndrome) despite your achievements. This could be echoes of past generations who were silenced or ostracised for their talents. ✨ struggling with unexplained health issues. These might be linked to the stress and trauma experienced by your ancestors (epigenetics is fascinating!) ✨ difficulty setting boundaries and attracting healthy relationships. Maybe your ancestral lineage had patterns of codependency or unhealthy attachments. Here's the good news: ancestral healing can help you release the burdens of the past and integrate the gifts to move into a brighter future. Are you traumatized by your chronic pain or symptoms? Fear, loss of control, and relapses with chronic neuroplastic pain/symptoms can result in sensitization trauma. Sensitization trauma results in chronic dysregulation of the nervous system. This can look like sympathetic (fight/flight) and/or dorsal vagal (freeze/shutdown) responses to sensations in our body or stimuli in our environments. Why does sensitization trauma occur? We feel very dysregulated during the onset, progression or relapse of symptoms Confusion, frustration, or hopelessness while trying to figure out what’s wrong Feeling overwhelmed by scary or painful events Negative experiences within the medical system Loss in control or ability Social judgment or isolation Unprocessed sensitization trauma worsens chronic pain and symptoms, due to nervous system dysregulation. This is why simple cognitive and behavioural practices are not always enough to eliminate our symptoms! The father wound can manifest as feelings of inadequacy, abandonment, or the need to prove oneself constantly. Sharing my journey of healing and the habits I've stopped to nurture my Nervous System...⁠ ⁠ Overthinking every situation used to consume me, but now I allow myself to let go of the need to control every outcome. It's been liberating to embrace uncertainty and trust in the process.⁠ ⁠ Avoiding difficult conversations was a coping mechanism, but I've learned that facing them head-on with openness and honesty is key to growth and understanding in my relationships.⁠ ⁠ Ignoring my body's signals was detrimental to my well-being. Now, I prioritize rest and self-care when needed, listening to what my body truly needs.⁠ ⁠ Suppressing emotions only led to more internal turmoil. I've embraced them fully, allowing myself to feel without judgment. It's amazing how much lighter I feel when I let myself experience all emotions.⁠ ⁠ Saying yes when I mean no was exhausting. Learning about the nervous system has helped me understand freezing in response to a painful experience, stress or overwhelm is nothing to be ashamed of. The way our nervous system responds to what is overwhelming is automatic, our nervous system is trying to keep us safe, sometimes based on previous survival responses. Whether we tried to fight first and then froze because we couldn't fight any longer or whether we went straight to freeze because the experience was so overwhelming. Adding in shame helps keep us stuck. The more we can be understanding and compassionate with ourselves, the more we can move from the stuckness and move forwards. In the upcoming workshops, we will mainly work with somatic practices to gain a deeper understanding of the subtle workings of the nervous system. This involves a lot of sensing (concrete inner experience) to open up to a wider field of awareness and to hold seemingly contradictory feelings or sensations within us. I will also incorporate theory, always in relation to practical examples or exercises. However my greatest wish is really for everyone to develop a sense—by way of experience—of the subtle workings of the nervous system and to comprehend the immense impact these states have on everything we do, feel etc. My intension is to open a space where the people joining can begin to create a sustainable, long term relationship with their nervous system. I do not only want to provide regulatory techniques for acute ‚stress situations‘ but provide context where everyone can get into relation with their own states and understand their personal inclinations in various situations. I will provide tools to work with this through the use of really simple somatic practices and listening. I designed the series so that there are two weeks between each session, giving us time to observe ourselves and our way of relating in daily situations and to experiment and play with the practices in real life. There will also be a whatsapp group where I will be giving small impulses. Join us in the 4-part series 'Landscapes of the Nervous System' starting on 9th June. 1. Orientation I (Outer landscape) 2. As I begin to navigate my (subconscious) responses to structure, power and authority differently—other than resistance—it feels as if my body’s chemistry is changing. I am not navigating differently by way of mind. It wasn’t so much a decision or intent to act differently, that wouldn’t reach deep enough. I simply observed my physical reactions in a given situation, this included sensations, postures. This could be as simple as the position of my eyes—are they more front or more back in my head? Etc. And when I noticed subtle physical reactions related to nervous system fight or freeze states I would adjust my physical posture into one which is close to a ventral vagal state (the one which is responsible for safety). I would do this as often I as noticed it and after some time something totally magick, wildly beyond my expectation or even imagination, began to happen. Specifically 3 things that I notice: 1. The immensity of sensory wealth that is becoming accessible to me when I am not in survival mode but soften and open into my body with trust and love 2. The way I remember and think seems to profoundly change 3. The haptic or texture of my immediate reality appears differently We are led by biology, by our physiological states; I knew this, but now I am beginning to understand the meaning and extent of this by way of body, by way of living, breathing matter, by way of experience. I am in deep reverence. It is as if I am co-creating and watching my physiology change on a profound level. This is weaving magick.

I shared the story about my experience in the Japanese language school yesterday because I think that most of us don't understand how our behavior and actions, how the realizations of our potentials, are determined by the state of our nervous system. And if we don’t engage with our nervous system consciously—on a physical level and on a daily basis—it will determine our present realities based on past experiences. I’ll say this again: Our nervous system determines our present reality based on past experiences. This means that most of the time, we are not fully responsive to the present moment and to the present version of our selves. This isn't something we can simply decide for or against. The nervous system cannot be switched on or off. However, we can learn to understand how it works. We can learn to care for it and collaborate with it, and to develop a relationship with it. And this will change everything. A relationship with our nervous system will transform our entire experience: how we see the world, how we engage with the world, how we participate in social dynamics, and how we bond. What becomes possible for us. How we feel, what we feel, the nuances and subtlety of what we feel. The state of our hormones, our capacity to concentrate, our energy levels, our sense of safety in the world. How we experience ourselves etc. This list is literally endless. Growing up, I was exposed to power structures, authority, and violence that were potentially dangerous. However, these experiences don't have to dictate how I interact with authority and react to all kinds of, also very subtle structures, today; it doesn’t mean that I cannot find or develop healthier and more productive ways of engaging with these types of dynamics and environments. It doesn’t mean that my present must be determined and limited by my past. This is why it is so important to understand how our nervous systems work and how we can support them to find new pathways, new ways of experiencing. New ways of being in the world with one another.
