Uslijedio je brutalni pir francuskih snaga koje su ubile blizu 400 Alžiraca,čija tijela su potom danima plutala rijekom Senom.Demonstranti su zatvoreni na stadione i u zatvore,a skoro polovica ih je protjerana u Alžir.Francuzi su izumili plinsku komoru prije nacista da bi istrijebili “narod drugog reda”,koristili su giljotinu nad istaknutim članovima revolucije.Baš se pitam od koga su učile današnje “terorističke” skupine.Pametnome dosta! Oxford, Holywell Street 📅 2024-04-11 📷 2022-08-24 This plaque made of Welsh slate was erected in October 2008 on the outside wall of 100 Holywell Street (the nearest house to Holywell Gallows where the men were executed). It was organized by Dr Joseph Shaw of St Benet’s Hall, who obtained permission from Merton College to put up the plaque on their property and also obtained the necessary planning permission. All four men named on this plaque and hanged at Holywell Gallows in Oxford in 1589 were Roman Catholics living in Oxford: the first two were priests, and the second two laymen. In about April or May 1589 a spy reported to the Privy Council in London that some Catholic priests were ministering in and around Oxford and had their headquarters in the city. A special messenger was sent by the Privy Council to Oxford to hunt them out, and together with the Constable of Oxford and a band of followers the spy led them to the Catherine Wheel Inn in Magdalen Street, where the proprietor was a Catholic widow. The two priests were convicted of high treason and hanged, drawn, and quartered at Holywell Gallows, and their parts parboiled in a cauldron before being fixed to the wall of Oxford Castle, where they were mutilated by Protestants. Two days later the heads and quarters were removed by the authorities and placed on high poles over the four town gates of Oxford. The two laymen who had been convicted of felony were simply hanged. Cemetery - Stirling - Scotland Martyrs' Memorial Stirling, Scotland UBICADO ENTRE MUCHAS LÁPIDAS de los siglos XVII y XVIII en el cementerio del casco antiguo de Stirling, se encuentra un invernadero bastante grande y ornamentado que rodea tres figuras de piedra. Uno es el de un ángel. Los otros dos representan a dos hermanas, una de las cuales fue brutalmente masacrada durante un período de la historia escocesa conocido como el “Tiempo de matar”. Margaret y Agnes Wilson eran dos hermanas adolescentes que vivían en Newton Stewart, cerca de Wigtown. Ambas eran devotas y firmes creyentes en la fe presbiteriana. Fue un momento difícil, ya que la gente se veía obligada activamente a jurar lealtad al rey como líder de la iglesia, en lugar de a Dios. Oxford, Martyrs‘ Memorial 📅 2024-03-18 📷 2022-08-24 The Martyrs‘ Memorial is a stone monument positioned at the intersection of St Giles‘, Magdalen Street and Beaumont Street, to the west of Balliol College. It commemorates the 16th-century Oxford Martyrs. The monument was built 300 years after the events of the English Reformation and commemorates the Bishop of Worcester, Hugh Latimer, and Bishop of London, Nicholas Ridley, who were burned nearby on 16 October 1555 after having been convicted for heresy because of their Protestant beliefs after a quick trial. It also commemorates the former archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Cranmer, who was similarly executed (after having watched his colleagues‘ painful deaths while imprisoned in a nearby tower and the Vatican having permitted his degradation from holy orders in February) on 21 March 1556. The Rev. Charles Pourtales Golightly (a descendant of Huguenots who fled to England in that earlier era) and other Anglican clergy raised the funds to erect the monument during the Victorian era. They opposed the 19th-century Oxford Movement (also known as the Tractarian Movement), led by John Keble, John Henry Newman and others. Golightly and his colleagues were alarmed at the Anglo-Catholic realignment the movement was bringing into the Church of England, and wanted the memorial to reflect the university’s Protestant profession and anti-Catholic tradition.
