We are so excited to announce something new for Mucking About. On Monday 20th May we will have our last camp fire session until the Autumn. They have been super popular and Tracey has made them so exciting with a variety of treats to cook and the magical coloured powder that makes the flames turn different colours. As part of this final session we are going to introduce a Forest School activity. It will be based around the story ‘Monkey Puzzle’ to fit in with our Jungle theme. Children will be given help to create a monkey face on a piece of wood using hammers, nails and string. There are so many benefits to woodwork in the Early Years including problem solving, confidence building, physical development and communication and language skills. It’s 6 months today since my brother died, half a year since our worlds came crashing down and everything changed in an instant. It’s funny because it feels like just 2 minutes ago in some ways and like the longest time since I saw him in others. From those cold winter days when our hearts were breaking to the beautiful summer sun where each day is so full of promise, day by day the world just keeps on turning. And as much as we want to cling on to every moment shared in the past, there’s nothing we can do but keep looking forward to the future and it’s a bittersweet feeling of sadness and happiness all rolled into one. One thing I’ve learned in the last 6 months is just how important it is to hold the people we love close and I’m doing that in abundance. I know we say it all the time but life is short, tragically short for way too many people, and the biggest mistake we make is thinking we have more time. I promised myself when Stuart died that I would show the people I love just how much they mean to me every single day, to prioritise my time with them, say yes way more than I say no, and reconnect with those I haven’t seen in way too long, and I’m doing exactly that. ❤️ And so here we are, six months surviving what we deemed the impossible, six months thriving as a family closer than ever, six months braver, six months stronger and six months more grateful for every single day we get to make the very best memories together. Hope you all have the loveliest weekend with the people you love the most. 🥰 #liveyourlife

Something I want every single parent to know👇🏽 (thanks for ignoring the typo!) It is good for your kids to get bored. Why? Before I tell you, share this with another parent! Allowing boredom is beneficial for kids, toddlers, and babies for a lot of reasons. For starters, if we want kids to be able to tolerate the “boring” situations of running errands, waiting in line, waiting for food, and everything else, we need to allow them to practice and accept feeling bored. Boredom is also a really great starter for creativity. I mean, you almost never see a kid start building a pillow fort before you see them laying on the couch wondering what to do. It’s also really beneficial for developing brains to experience periods of boredom. For young kids, they’re experiencing a lot of things for the first time. And they’re constantly learning. Taking in new things 24/7 is a lot of work for a young brain. Boredom helps give that brain some time to rest. It protects against overstimulation and overwhelm. I mean as adults, I can’t tell you how many times I hear my friends say, “I wish I had time to get bored.” So why are we trying to make sure our kids don’t experience this? To avoid our own discomfort? So we don’t have to endure a little complaining or whining? The truth is the less we allow boredom, the more our kids will learn to look to us solve a problem that isn’t really a problem. And you know what that means? A lot of unnecessary work for you. So the next time you see your toddler looking a little directionless, or hear your kids proclaim that they’re bored, don’t rush in to solve this. Tell them you’re confident they’ll find something to do, and leave them to it. Do you embrace boredom in your home? Or does it feel weird to you? Let me tell you there wasn’t many dry eyes durning fifth grades final chapel of lower school today from parents, students and staff which speaks volumes on the school and what an awesome group of fifth graders. I’m not sure pre school or kindergarten graduations could even help prepared our mama hearts because today was beyond bitter sweet. Today, for last time Dawson put that little chapel polo on, attend lower school chapel, and celebrate summer birthdays something we’ve done since kindergarten 💚💛🤍 cannot believe it… next chapter middle school.
