I can’t believe I’ve lived near-ish to Reigate my whole life and somehow not been to @bucklandparklake before today. It’s such a perfect spot for hanging out with friends. There’s a great little lagoon-side playground and sandpit next to the @elrocinante_bucklandpark food truck, and there’s also a fantastic-looking restaurant called The Reverie overlooking the lake, which we would v much like to try out another day! *And* there are mini Land Rovers your little ones can drive for an extra charge, plus a woodland walk, a lakeside walk and various woodland activities. Must go back soon and do more than just the play area and sandpit!! My youngest daughter and I enjoyed a lovely, warm, sunny walk here yesterday ....we took the boardwalk riverside route past the carpet of aromatic wild garlic, that has superceded the bluebells....through the spring green willow tunnel...clumps of pretty forget-me-nots along the pathways....cow parsley in the fields....we saw sailing boats on the lake and heard children having fun canoeing lessons... bright yellow flag irises fenced a swan's nest, with the busy sand martins' nesting boxes spotted on the farside. Throughout our walk birdsong drowned out the distant rumble of city traffic. It's nesting season on Berrington's heronry island. Between March and May, grey herons nest on the island in the middle of Berrington's pool. The island itself is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) so is closed to visitors, but these birds can be spotted all around the pool. NZ road trip day 25 ~ Queenstown We had a bit of a lazy start, coffee twice! And toast while I answered emails. We then headed off to Lake Hayes where Heidi used to live to walk the 8k round the lake. In NZ they are so well set up for tourists & locals alike and the lake has a great trail set up around it. Of course we went the wrong way and after a k or so we met a local who confirmed yea, we were!! So we walked 12k instead of the 8 planned and had to walk super fast to make sure we got to our Onsen on time. Timing is everything and a soak in a hot tub was so welcome after our walk. The Onsen overlooked the shot over river where the jet boats fly past and do doughnuts, so we got to watch the adrenaline rather than participate in it. We braved the cold shower, we’ve both become a bit lightweight when it comes to cold water so a minute each it was at a time. Ok I did 30 seconds first but Mr4F upped the anti so I had to too. Back to Betty and a few hours work by me while Mike went off for a haircut and to get some change for the washer as we are in desperate need of laundry! Once the washing was on it was time to start the process of cleaning, sorting and packing as tomorrow we hand Betty back.
