What do you do with only 8 classes left while testing when the whole class is never present at the same time?! In sculpture 1, we created soap sculptures! We looked at the non-objective sculptural work of Barbara Hepworth, sketched some fave pieces, and then designed a piece highlighting some of the aspects we liked, including negative spaces, organic curves, etc. You can see part of a sketchbook page in the last pic. We then carved our pieces out of soap and photographed them with model train figures I purchased on Amazon (they are 1:43 size to get this scale with the soap) so they would look like patrons in a museum! Carving soap is VERY satisfying and a super relaxing activity for the last week of school. Last week, Ms. Tallman’s Art II (4th Block) finished up “Realism.” They used canvas for their support and painted with acrylics. We did a new cardboard pop art project in Sculpture class this semester. Inspired by the art of Katharine Morling and Joshua Vides, students chose an everyday object to make out of cardboard. Then they either painted it black with white details or white with black details. Some kids had to rush a bit and couldn’t finish completely, but I still love how they turned out. Some of Art 2’s reimagined masterpieces (part 1) I love this project so much and my students continue to blow me away with their skills and creativity! Munch’s The Scream was very popular and each student made it their own! There’s also a Da Vinci, Botticelli, Van Gogh, and Magritte. In addition to their projects they had to write why they chose the piece and why they reimagined it the way they did, their answers were 🤯. So far my favorite was the Magritte (in his works he has and apple blocking his eyes, he can’t see the world around him so I made his apple and head into an eye so he can see the world.” (9th grader!! 💛) I can’t wait to share the rest of these masterpieces with y’all! #highschoolart #highschoolartteacher #reimaginedart

Students from Art 1 created linocuts and printed an edition of 40 prints. Another student semester art show in the books! I had these easels given to me. They hold two 24” x 36” display boards nicely. Surprisingly, this is about 62 student works ( plus we filled up about 30+ linear feet of bulletin board space in the hall. ) Makes everything looks so clean and nice vs the set up I’ve used in the past with tables and trifold displays. Last painting complete! Can’t wait to see this student’s painting join the others at the tram stop on our campus! We have been hard at work at school! My Art Club students organized a mural project to beautify the tram stop on campus with 20 paintings that feature Florida plants and animals. I worked with a middle school science educator to design a cross-curricular lesson for the Interdisciplinary arts and 7th grade life science students. The science students studied and created short films that educated my IA students on their selected plants and animals. The IA students gave the 7th grade science students a lesson in color theory and how to paint. The short films will be connected to the artwork at the tram stop via QR codes so students can learn about the Florida based plants and animals while they wait for their ride!
