Days 27 and 28 #ginadaymay2024 High and Low @dreamersemporium Prescription Gin packs a punch at a higher abv of 57% It's a beautiful sipping dry gin over ice and of course in a G&T. Juniper forward with a citrus undertone. Dr Eamers Gin Drops is a whacking 68% abv but it is super concentrated and designed to be used sparingly for a low abv alternative. Using one shot from the pipette and mixing with a can of tonic water brings the alcohol volume down to 1%. Also it has up to 20 servings per bottle (if using two shots). . Happy Whisky Wednesday folks! Today I’ve just degorged my one-and-only Shiraz cask. It was a 100L with a full history from Chapel Hill in the McLaren Vale region housing their Shiraz for 9years prior. This is the only whisky that I have where I used a Coopers Brewery grain for my Mash… one that is Westminster style and more ‘grainy’ in flavour. I’m usually one to detest many Aussie Wine cask whisky offerings due to the tannic nature of them.. and with that it made me want to produce something that I’d be happy to drink.. Luckily, I think I’ve done just that. At 5.5 years, this didn’t want to mature any longer before possibly wanting to lose its way. Coming out of the cask at 71.7% ABV it’s yet another monster that needs to have quite some time spent to determine its sweet spot in ABV for bottling. Off the bat and straight from the cask, the nose is just magic. Gooey caramels, oaty biscuit, short crust pastry and a hint of fruit mince pie. Tasting was immediately gripping (due to high ABV) but brought vintage boiled lollies, treacle and some dark oak. The finish showed light honey and red fruits, grape skin and sherbert before a slight vegetal note. Hence the design, which is inspired by the fact that the Empire did nothing wrong. 😉🤓 🗣️ In this version of Clifford’s Porter, they took every aspect of the original to the next level. It doesn’t quite live up to the original (or the Nitro version for that matter), but that’s such a high bar to meet, to be fair. One of the main reasons why this beer wasn’t nearly as enjoyable as the flagship Porter was the candied malt flavour, which I’m not really a fan of. I recognize that this is still a high quality beer and it’s well-executed, but it just isn’t for me. 😘 💪 9.0% 🖍 Nearly opaque, deep and dark body with a currant hue under a small, tan-coloured head that lasts. 👃 Roasted coffee aroma with a chocolate note. 👄 Smooth and rich full body with fine yet crisp carbonation and medium bitterness. English, German, American, and Belgian malts are accompanied by Pacific Northwest hops and then aged in Bourbon Barrels for 8 to 12 months. This one was smooth, dark, nutty, boozy, and ridiculously delicious. It was a bit thin, but the flavors were done so well that the extra chew wasn't missed. World class beer here, been drinking Brouwerij Huyghe brews for a a while now but something about *Delirium Tremens* today after some productive yard work. Was looking for something a bit more refreshing and lighter, but this makes one hell of a garden beer I'd say. Pours strong with a whipped cream head. Smells of bitter clove and fresh baked bread. Flavor is a complexity of mild spice and lemon peel, crackers and bitter hops. Certainly warming at 8.5% ABV. Celebrate this Sunday with a good brew my friends. Cheers! 🍻

Right. Saint Patrick naturally demands a sacrifice, but this pair is simply too much to consume together, each can bringing the 13 percent wallop of poison, from @loughgillbrewery in Ireland. (Welcome to Los Angeles, Irish suds!) So we partake in Chalice first, whiskey barrel, aged imperial stout with vanilla and pecans. These beers do not mess around! What I’m liking about the chalice is the smoothness. Of course, the high ABV means there’s not much liveliness to the carbonation, but that and distinctive butteriness of the barrel aging has been tempered to a very pleasant degree. Day 16 #marchminis with @gin_queen77 Today is BIG ABV I love a Navy Strength gin the botanicals are more pronounced in gins with a higher ABV. Now technically today's miniature isn't a Navy Strength because it's 50% ABV but it's still Bigger than a standard gin at 37.5% It's a Yorkshire Gin from @yorkshiredalesdistillery and one I haven't had the pleasure of trying yet. Ponderous Thoughts - At 67.5% ABV, Snake Venom is the strongest non-barrel aged beer. Most Craft beers are 4% to 6%, or only a tenth of what Snake Venom is. It is fermented with two different yeast strains to make is as strong as possible. Turned out to be a beautiful chilly day in Southern Louisiana. Couldn't decide on a beastly stout or a tart sour today after some work on the house so went with this imperial amber from Komes. Been holding on to this one for a while now. Poured a deep amber with plenty of light frothy head. Bottle fermentation has a great brut like effervescence. Not too crazy complex here, a bit malty, a bit hoppy. Nice and dry with some light pear flavors. Really hard to believe this is sitting at 10% ABV. Certainly packs a punch but the booziness is kept pretty quiet. Great drinkability out here while barbecuing. Overall, pretty solid and probably most unique amber I've had, kudos to the good folks out in Poland for this one. Cheers! 🍻
Staying productive in the new year, spent the day painting my new bedroom and chopping wood. After trimming this future giant oak, it was time to crack a big time new year brew! @saintarnoldbrewing *25th anniversary Grand Cru* held up pretty dang well. Bottled in 2019 and out of the gates, I'd say the dominate out of the trio blend would be on the Barleywine side. The nose is of bourbon soaked dark fruit; plum, raisin and fig. Flavor is just awesome of pecan and oak wood, certainly the aroma of the dark fruit matches the taste. A bit flat of carbonation, but drinks really smooth. After about 15 mins of room temperature in a snifter, it does thicken up a bit with a bolder flavor of bourbon. Elements of the Russian imperial are in here as well as some sweet candied fruit qualities from the quad. 11.1% ABV. Pretty amazing brew here guys, happy to have cracked it on this first day of 2024! Was a bit of an unorthodox Christmas this time around. Celebrated yesterday with the fam to avoid any possibility of being called in for work today just in case. So spent the holiday painting and installing light fixtures at the new house. 😂 After some productivity it was time to crack a holiday brew to remember! @saintarnoldbrewing *French Press* imperial coffee porter aged in cognac barrels was absolutely stupendous. Poured in their anniversary goblet, the aroma was fresh roasted coffee and candied syrup. Flavor was complex with layers of molasses, smokey wood, dark roasted coffee, hints of vanilla... Top coffee porter I've had in the last couple years for sure. The cognac barreling was genius for the beer style. Drank quite smoothly with a nice abv range sitting at 9.3%. After warming, the sweetness of the cognac barrel really shined adding a brilliant depth of flavor to this already amazing coffee porter. Can't say enough about it, happy to have had another epic concoction from the good guys down in Houston. Really was the perfect holiday brew. Cheers and merry Christmas! 🎄🍻
Awesome stout session breaker in between all the rich booze @the_brass_monkey_slidell. This was the IPA of the year for me. *Ghost Prime* from @parishbrewingco was superb with strong hoppy layers of fruity nectarine and piney peach. Smooth finish and great mouth feel. Really could've drank this all night and been a very happy camper 😂 Cheers! 🍻
