29 Years ago today, on May 19th 1995, my father was taken. He was the most generous and patient human I’d ever met. His purpose in life was to look after his family and do things that made people happy. He set his goals and dreams aside to be able to do that. He was an amazing artist and an adventurer, always wanting to search and learn and share. He is my daily inspiration and the most beautiful human I’ve ever known. I miss him everyday. I often wonder what he’d be doing if he was alive today. My hope is that he’d be here, in America, living with @theactualmercy and me. Exploring all that America has to offer and enjoying his art. He saw me graduate from Drama school but I’ll always regret that he didn’t witness and share my acting successes and not being able to take him to set and introduce him to Anthony Hopkins, JJ Abrams, Tim Burton, and some of the other amazing people I’ve had the privilege of working with. And most of all I regret that he never met Mercy. Even though he reached out from beyond and made our meeting happen. And I know that his silent words whispered into my ears in the darkest moments of the last two years are one of the reasons I still live and breathe. I aspire to you everyday. I love you dad. Dragged my sick, tired ass out of bed today to visit my mother’s grave (since I didn’t get to visit on Mother’s Day due to the fact I had to work). Forever and always big Dad! ❤️ For those that have been here a while, you know I lost my dad to cancer in 2011. For those who are new, my dad was my rock. You know, the person you go to about everything. You can genuinely talk to about the good, the bad, and everything in between. My dad would be straight with me. He wouldn't just agree or take my side because I was his daughter. He would let me know when I needed to check myself and reflect. My dad and I had a close relationship even with distance between us. My parents divorced when I was two, and based on both sides of the story, though different, it was not a healthy relationship. I appreciated the time I had with him in the summers, but otherwise, our relationship consisted of phone calls. My dad was a truck driver, not one to settle down, stay in one place. As I got older, our time together was less and less. I was in different camps throughout the summer for sports like volleyball, basketball, dance, and cheer. I didn't think anything of it and didn't think I would only have a few more years with my dad around. Though distance was between us, my dad would always tell me, "If you feel alone and are missing me, just look to the moon and know I am looking back thinking about you. You can talk to me and I'll know. " He would always say, "Love you to the moon and back little T or little Tal." This tattoo is in remembrance of those conversations, of those words. His handwriting added was the perfect touch. I cried as my artist put those words on me and felt this weight leave me. It was as though I no longer had to worry about not remembering or not having him with me. May sound silly, but for me, I feel like he is always with me now. I feel lighter.
