Hello good people of the page. This Wednesday afternoon at the Little Rock VA Hospital the doctors there performed another radiofrequency lumbar rhizotomy to ameliorate pain symptoms arising from degenerative facet joints in my lower back. It involves inserting long hollow needles into my problematic back joints down which radio waves “burn” the troublesome nerves. The pain relief is supposed to last anywhere from six months to a year. The last time they did this procedure was back in November 2023 on my left lumbar region. This time they treated the right side. Now back home and resting. No tub baths for a week and no showers for 48 hours. Sponge baths until then. Incidentally the VA doctors are now of the opinion that the neuropathy in my legs and feet isn’t being caused by diabetes but by the pinched nerves in my lower back. I see back surgery in my near future. Meow from Little Rock. Pictured is Snowball one of our rescue cats who was keeping me company earlier on this Tuesday as I drunk my customary afternoon coffee. A few years back I picked him up from our back deck and rushed him to our then veterinarian. He was very sick kitten with swollen glands in his tiny neck, a knot in his wee tail, and a badly bruised nose. His little ribs were showing. The vet and a lot of tender loving care from my hubby Steve and me turned his little life around. He got the name Snowball because initially he looked like a little almost all white snowball except for some striping on his tail and legs. As he grew he became a dirty snowball. Today he’s the biggest cat in our humble home and is so so loving and affectionate. Hello with today being Memorial Day here in the U.S. I treated my hubby Steve and me to traditional burgers and fries at Big Orange in midtown Little Rock. We both ate their delicious blue cheese and red pepper jelly burgers and tasty truffle fries. Diet Coke washed it all down. Treating us was a way of me showing my deep appreciation to my Steve for pulling out all of the stops for my 76th birthday yesterday. Good Sunday morning ya’ll. Today 76 years ago on a Wednesday at 2:55 am in the morning at City Hospital in Mobile Alabama I was born. Six pounds one ounce. I was my proud parents first born. I grew up in the 1950’s and ‘60’s before the Internet, computers, cell phones, GPS, and so much more. I rode my bicycle to school unattended and unafraid of being snatched. I attended school unafraid of being shot dead. The first president I remember was Dwight Eisenhower. I remember him building the Interstate Highways across America. I remember Sputnik, the Red Scare, backyard fallout shelters, duck and cover, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Kennedy and MLK Jr. assassinations, the Apollo 11 moon landing, and oh so much more. I am happy to be alive. Our pediatrician told my mom I wouldn’t live to see six. Failure to thrive it was called. I survived two deadly pandemics AIDS and Covid 19. I’m still standing. I proudly served my country as a commissioned U.S. Army officer for 20 some years. My military career was one of the best things I ever did for myself. Today I have good friends and a wonderful husband Steve who has loved me and who has been faithfully by my side for over 32 years. This old soldier has so damn much to be thankful and grateful for. Life is good. Hi there. This old soldier is feeling rather funky and out of sorts today. Maybe it’s because Mother’s Day always reminds me that my beloved mom is no longer amongst the living. Hi! Late post but our breakfast this Saturday was at Gandolfo’s Deli in far west Little Rock. It’s become our favorite go to restaurant for breakfast. The food is good. The prices are reasonable. The staff is friendly. Lastly the place is seldom crowded. Anyhoo I had their California omelette with potatoes, bacon, and marbled rye toast that I buttered and spread some jam on. Today is National Nurses Day. My beloved mom may she RIP was a Registered Nurse (RN) for over 40 years. That’s her pictured fresh out of nursing training sometime in the 1940’s. Hello there. Our Thursday evening dinner was take out from Three Fold Noodles + Dumplings Company in the Pleasant Ridge shopping center here in Little Rock. Good gorgeous sunny Sunday afternoon good people of the page. Pictured is our oldest feline at 17 years old our sweetie Lucky resting in our small kitchen cupboard. She got her name Lucky because she was born on 7-7-2007. Also my Steve’s birthday. She almost wasn’t born at all because my hubby Steve and I had to rush her mama cat Midnight to our veterinarian during labor. He had to manually deliver Lucky. If we hadn’t drove like crazy to the vet, both cats would have died. Even then the only other kitten in the womb didn’t make it. Difficult labor. Lucky has an ear that has folded down. The flaps have separated. It’s fairly common in older cats. Our vet says it’s not painful and not to worry. Because of Lucky’s advanced age corrective surgery is not recommended. Steve and I hope to have Lucky grace us with her loving presence for at least a couple more years. We’re up in northeastern Greece in the ancient city of Aegae now Vergina at the Macedonia Royal Tombs. Pictured are the battle gear and ossuary bone box and the crown of King Philip II the father of my boyhood hero Alexander the Great. Alexander buried his father in this royal cemetery prior to leaving Greece to conquer the then known world. Okay guys and gals it has come to this. Today the Little Rock VA Hospital fitted this old soldier with a pair of these newfangled “Walkasins.” They are vibrating removable insoles that gently vibrate when I walk. Because of my type 2 diabetes I have lost a lot of feeling in my old feet causing balance issues. The Walkasins help my brain and inner ear to know better where my two feet are when I am walking. Since the insoles are removable I can switch them to different shoes except for shoes without a back. Rechargeable (100-240 volts) I can take them with me when traveling overseas. Fortunately I don’t have to wear them all the time. The downside is that they look kinda like house arrest ankle monitors. Going through TSA when flying on vacation ought to be interesting. Good Tuesday afternoon good folks. Earlier today at the Little Rock VA Hospital the doctors there performed an electrode zip nerve test on this old soldier’s problematic feet and hands. I have loss some feeling in my feet and hands especially my feet. This has contributed to pesky balance problems. I am a fall risk. The goal of the test was to map out the damage that my diabetic neuropathy has caused to my extremities. After my neurologist reviews the test she’ll call me with the results. The procedure wasn’t particularly painful but the small electrical jolts was just that jolting. Hopefully the nerve damage isn’t as severe as I suspect. This old soldier has kicked the weekend and this Friday off right by getting a deep tissue 90 minute therapeutic massage at Massage Envy in Midtown Little Rock. Lately the diabetic neuropathy in my old feet and lower legs has become bothersome and troublesome. Massage is recommended to improve the circulation and to provide some pain relief given such a medical condition. Hi there. Sunday’s dinner for my sweet hubby Steve and me had an oriental flair to it. Good morning good people of the page. My hubby Steve and I did rise and shine on this gorgeous Sunday morning but somewhat late as we luxuriously slept in. After all what are Sundays for anyway. In our space challenged Little Rock kitchen I cooked for us thick Belgium waffles crowned with mixed berries, unsalted Irish butter, and a choice of either maple or date syrup. Sides included eggs fried sunny side up, grilled tomatoes, and crispy bacon strips. Diet cranberry juice for me and a diet soda for Steve quenched our thirst. Now resting and listening to our cat Snowball snore next to me here on the couch.
