Spent the morning at the @leesburgfarmersmarket taking surveys and handing out flyers for the Franklin Park Arts Center, today. A big bonus of getting there early is not having to stand in line to get my breakfast crepe fix from Happy Crepe. This lovely Hungarian couple have been selling their insanely delicious crepes, in both sweet and savory options, at the local farmers markets for quite a few years now, and I always try to support them whenever possible. In addition to meeting and talking to all kinds of people today, I got to see (and pet) all kinds of dogs, including what might’ve the biggest dog I’ve ever seen! He was a gentle giant, though, which is usually the case with bigger dogs. Originally, the plan was to do laundry, dust the furniture, and vacuum the carpets, but sometimes you just need to get out of the house. Last Friday night I got a peek at the Cabin Fever Film Festival at the @franklinparkartscenter, now in its sixth year, and enjoyed it so much, I returned for the rest of it Saturday morning/afternoon. Afterwards I went to the @adah_rose_gallery with @emscottart and met up with @briankirk5707 and @susiebleong, among others, to catch an exceptional dual exhibit featuring the work of @kjlee102 and Jacqui Crocetta. Finally, we feasted on some seriously delicious pizza at Frankly Pizza, just around the corner from the gallery (thanks for the suggestion, Susie!). Last Wednesday evening I got to see the annual Small World art exhibit on display at the @franklinparkartscenter. My little tribute to my sweet @krisloyaart is also part of this exhibit (see first panel). Titled “Her Work is Not Finished Here Yet”, the piece was originally made for and accepted into the Fralin Museum of Art’s tiny museum show for September, but I had to bow out when I learned the work would be displayed outdoors. Highly personal and inspired by Joseph Cornell’s mixed media boxes, this piece is made from items that Kris used to knit and crochet, draw, as well as things she made, such as hand-painted magnets, a small sign she embellished with her signature florals in acrylics, her business cards, rocks she collected from a trip we took, a photo of her as a toddler, and one of us when we were dating, as well as a fortune she saved from a fortune cookie. I like how it’s mounted on a little easel and I feel it’s much more at home at FPAC, which is a place we first started exhibiting years ago. It’s also among the work of friends, which is always a good thing.
