I've spent the past couple of weekends speaking to a crowd, discussing the importance of understanding dog psychology and our most important role as pet parents. I also do jokes. This is Cleo blk and white and Bailey. The owners got me in to see Bailey, who seemed very nervous when seeing cars, bikes, and joggers. The vets put him on meds. While I was there, it was actually Cleo that was the more nervous one. When we took Bailey out to walk, he walked really well, and when he saw a car, he would go down to the ground and try to lunge at the cars. Him going to the ground wasn't stress related it was actually his herding instinct. He actually wanted to herd the cars. He was having a ball. When that herding instinct is turned on in a dog, there is no turning it off, nor would we want to. It's a part of his DNA. Identifying the ROOT of your dogs behavioral problems… 1. Does your dog get uninterrupted time outside to follow his nose, explore and enjoy the environment? 2. What type of mental stimulation do you provide your dog? 3. Does your dog get new experiences on a regular basis? 4. Do you make time to play with your dog in a meaningful way? 5. Does your dog have a space that is JUST his where he can be left alone to relax when he desires? 6. Do you provide an outlet for your dogs MAP behaviors? (Instinctual needs - breed specific) 7. Do you know how to observe your dogs body language and advocate for him in social settings or around your children? Don’t get me wrong… I ALSO feel that dogs are family, but I never let that overshadow the fact that we are different species and that he has his own set of unique needs that deserve to be met. If any of this is hitting home for you, you’re not alone, we all get busy and sometimes life gets in the way, but part of the responsibility of owning a dog is doing our best to meet these needs. Dogs are obviously wonderful, intelligent creatures. From search & rescue, police work, service work, sports & everything in between, there's no denying the level of talent they possess. But no matter how many cool things your dog does or how often you refer to your dog as your "Fur Baby", they will never be capable of the same level of thought processes & emotions you are. Humans are rational, logical, emotional creatures. But dogs come mostly from a place of wild(ish) instincts. They do have emotions, for sure. But that time they peed on the floor right after you left for the day? That was not revenge. The favorite pair of shoes you found chewed up? No, they didn't do that just to get on your nerves. And as my mentor would often say, they're definitely not sitting down at the end of the night writing in their diary about how you didn't give them enough love or cookies before bed. 😉 When we start to see our dogs for what they are - animals living in a human world - we can start to understand what motivates them, what they want from us & why they did chew up that pair of expensive shoes. 春のキャンピングカートレーニングツアー宮古島からの保護犬ちゃん達わさびちゃん&ぽてとちゃん🐶🐶 他犬や子供達、スケボー等激吠え&突撃してしまうおふたりさん😊🐶🐶 チームなので余計にふたりで激吠えになってしまいます。お家にいても窓の外を通るワンコや子供達に窓ブチ破る勢いで突撃吠えしてしまう。お散歩でもお家でも人もワンコふたりもストレスいっぱいですね。問題となっている原因を１つつ1つ紐解いて、ママパパがまずどう伝えないとイケないかを学んでいただき、激吠えふたりを吠えなくていいように導かせていただきました😊💓 帰る時にはお部屋にいても下校でリビングの前を通り過ぎる大騒ぎの子供達にも吠えずに落ち着いて伏せて居られ、お散歩でも他犬や大騒ぎの子供達、スケボーにも反応せず楽しいお散歩を体験されました😊✊ これからもまずは犬達ふたりに安心してもらえるようなパパママで在り、どうすれば良いのかを伝え導けるパパママであってくださいね😊✊💓 またPWでお会い出来るのを楽しみにしております！！お呼びいただき本当にありがとうございました💓💓💓 リポストさせていただきます🎶 #Repost @a.maki_ta 2024.4.26 リコ先生のトレーニング記録✍🏻📋⸝‍⋆① わんLove卒犬ちゃんや保護犬関係のご縁でインスタ繋がったママさんたち皆がすごいというリコ先生。前からインスタフォローはしていましたが、アリドナちゃんママさんのおかげで連絡しよう！と先生にDMしたのが2022.12月。お忙しい中トレーニング予約してもらったのに、私の都合で延期してもらって待ちに待った日‪🌱‬ 娘の体調不良で看病続き、頭もまわらず聞きたかったこと、いまのわさぽてのことまとめておく事すら出来ず失礼な事もあったのではと後悔してます😔 ごめんなさい。そしてほんとうにすごい先生でした✨✨✨ とってもとっても素敵な方でした🙂‍↕️ ありがとうございました！！！トレーニングをして貰った日からほんっとうにお散歩が楽しくなりました！！！！これは私も夫も。多分わさぽても楽しんでくれてるのでは？と思ってます🐶🐾 お散歩中に犬、子供に出会うと爆吠え＆突進。逃げるように道を変えてドキドキのお散歩。小学生の登下校時間は避けて、幼稚園バスが止まる場所も避けて…… 2頭に引っ張られ妊娠中は怖くて2頭連れては辞めて1頭ずつ早朝にサクッと…。家でトイレ出来るし…と雨だとお散歩しない日がほとんど。ただ楽しくわさぽてとお出かけがしたい。逃げるようなお散歩をしたくない。と、月1トレーナーさんにトレーニングをして貰っていましたが即効性はなく1年ほどしてもらっていましたが、悪阻時期にストップしてもらい育児におわれそのままでした。そして4/26 まる1日リコ先生にトレーニングしてもらってびっくり😭😭😭😭😭 あのわさぽてがパックでお散歩！！！！わさぽてより大きい子もご挨拶できて一緒に歩いていた😭😭😭😭😭 わさぽてをみると小型犬の飼い主さんたちは抱えて逃げる方もいるので、横にチワワちゃんが歩いていたのもはじめて。家の周りをあんなに堂々と歩いたのもはじめて…😂💦 小学生の下校に出会うと逃げるしかないと思っていたのに、叫び吠える小学生🤣の群れの横をスルー✨️✨️ リコ先生｢この小学生たち吠えてるね😂｣と言われるくらいすごいパワフル小学生の横を通り、先生が小学生と会話してもわさぽて大丈夫だったのもびっくり。ご近所さんだと普通｢こんにちは〜！｣って挨拶しながらすれ違いたいところ、会話すると爆吠えするので私は静かにいつも逃げていたので怪しい人だったな😅💦 出会うと必ず吠えるゴールデンちゃんに出会いたいと思ったけど出会えず…😫 （トレーニング翌日以降、何度か出会っていますが、やはりこのゴールデンちゃんだけは見えただけで吠えるのでまだすれ違いは出来ていません）お家の中では窓を隠すように前のトレーナーさんに言われたので隠していましたが、隠すのをやめて先生のわんこさんたちに前を歩いてもらい下がる練習。いまは日中の指示をきちんとできる時に半分は車で隠していますが半分はあけています✨️✨️✨️ そしてあまり窓に執着しなくなりました◎ （わさび▶︎今までは番犬のように窓の前にいて通る犬、人にとにかく吠えて窓に突進していた）そしてぽてとが伏せを覚えました😳 何度教えても｢伏せなくちゃダメならもうおやついらない｣とボイコット。手を引いて伏せさせ、おやつを地面にスライドさせたりYouTubeでみた教え方色々やっても覚えなかった4歳くん。先生がサクッと五分ほどで教えて下さり、2頭同時に伏せもできて感動しました😭✨ あの日から毎日2頭同時伏せしてます！！！完璧にぽてとが覚えました👏💯💮 #dogbehaviorexpert #dogpsychology #dogandownerseducation #宮古島保護犬 #激吠え #突撃 #お散歩トレーニング #正しく伝え正しく導く #犬の幸せ #人と犬の幸せ

Welcoming my newest puppy in training, Chip the 6 month Chihuahua 🥰🐶!! He was such a reactive, aggressive but yet sweet puppy. In the first session, we worked on establishing a relationship of trust where he saw that his perceived threats weren't real and that the essence of structure and discipline isn't anything intimidating or competition based at all. He adapted immediately and fell in place by listening, being calm and obeying 😁 His personality type is rooted in being more introverted, and with that in mind it's important to understand how to properly stimulate and train him without overstimulating him to the point where he feels the need to protect himself. In this Omaha dog behavior training session we focused on ways to stop a dog from barking at other dogs. I’ve been asked if my dogs ever go to place on their own or if they like their place beds. The answer to both of those questions is yes. “Place” is more than a dog bed. It represents boundaries. When one of the dogs is done playing in the yard, they often put themselves on place. A clear boundary that says “I’m done”. Or when we have visitors, it’s “when the dogs are on place, ignore them. No touch, no talk, no eye contact.” The dog no longer is pressured to interact. Instead, I hold a clear boundary that advocates for them. It represents a calm state of mind. Pacing, over-aroused, dysregulated… dogs don’t like living in an unbalanced state. Place gives them permission to fully relax and settle their mind. When I think of what my dogs truly want and need, I don’t think of toys, treats, and unlimited freedom. Instead, I think of leadership, boundaries, exercise, clarity, and calmness. Don’t get me wrong, Blair gets great enjoyment from destroying the heck out of a stuffed toy and Rayleigh performs somersaults when I pull out a treat. But that is not the norm nor should it be. Place helps us achieve balance so we can have both. My dogs (including our fosters) spend a good amount of time on place and quite a bit of that is by choice. There was one fight a year ago, and the owners will supervise them and train Scout not to pick on Milo. The owners also wanted some help with walking. Welcome to the Pack...our newest member - Roman! He is a 1 1/2-year-old Black Labrador Retriever who was rescued from the Humane Society at 5 months of age. His owners reached out to us as they were having problems walking him on leash without pulling or reacting, not coming when called, some excitement issues, and wanted better overall obedience so that they could take him anywhere with any level of distraction. The Labrador Retriever was the most popular pedigree dog breed in USA and other parts of the world for decades. Traditional working Labs are tough, athletic dogs capable of great endurance and persistence. Labrador Retrievers genuinely can make the perfect pet, show, working, therapy, service and hunting dog. The Labrador Retriever is an active dog with an intelligent, co-operative nature, provided you have the time and energy to steer their enthusiasm in the right direction. The Labrador Retriever’s coat officially comes in three solid colors. Black coats are the most common, with chocolate and yellow Labs being a little less frequent. I absolutely remember being FRUSTRATED Living in a 3rd floor walk up apartment with my high energy doodle While most popular trainers are working dogs in/on 👉Remote, rural environments 👉Massive suburban oasises with privacy fences and huge yards 👉Acres of land and huge balanced packs And I lived in Raleigh NC in a dog-friendly apartment community lol There's a dog that lives literally 20 yards from my front door on the floor below me. 3 dogs across the street... I never was able to make some of the techniques work that these undoubtedly skilled trainers were talking about and demonstrating maybe they weren't showing everything... (this) Or maybe they had more time, space, and energy to do it... (thiiisss) Or maybe a combo of the above bc I was working full time and they were pro trainers (thiiiiiiisssssssss) But one thing was clear - I still had to figure this shit out and I was now running out of time, money, and emotional strength to do it... I leaned in strategically... holistically... with dog psychology and pack leadership... And I did it.
