Industrial Craft Corrugated Table by Charlotte Kidger , . Industrial Craft is a material based project focused around utilising plastic waste streams associated with CNC fabrication. As a by-product after the milling process the lightweight polyurethane foam dust is left in abundant volumes. Given that this material is still regarded as a niche plastic, it’s only means of disposal is through incineration or landfill. Through material exploration, Charlotte developed a durable and versatile composite material that has the capabilities to be cast in diverse 3D forms of various scales. The composite material provides an extremely durable material that prolongs the life and places value in what was previously so easily discarded. Entre architecture et sculpture • Influencées par nos parcours respectifs dans le design industriel et l’architecture, nous avons conçu les vases Foliá comme des micro-architectures à l’échelle de l’objet. Nous nous sommes inspiré des “folies” ces constructions extravagantes apparues au 18e siècle, qui défiaient les conventions tout en invitant à la curiosité. 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗢 𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗧 – Tatami Antiques | Tokyo, Japan (@tatami_antiques | @dai_okumura | @_kika_titcoret ) TATAMI ANTIQUES, a collective of antique dealers across Japan, started by artist and dealer Dai Okumura, deal in Contemporary Antiques. The trail-blazing and rowdy band of dealers created the collective in rebellion against the rigid and stuffy local antique market. They wanted to create a space to expand on their boundless curiosity for objects regardless of provenance and connect with like-minded creatives and visceral collectors. Someone recommended that I get in touch with them. After a quick browse of their Instagram feed, I was quizzically bewitched by their unexpected selection of pieces, from Edo period dolls to 90s #Bunkayazakkaten -style pieces (or pop “miscellaneous goods”). When I asked about how they curate and procure objects, they told me that each member of the collective has their own speciality and area of research but that they mainly source pieces intuitively. Rather than hunting rare, mint-condition, expensive pieces, they look for unique and quotidian objects with which they have a visceral connection. Their loyal and expansive international network of collectors approach collecting in the same way.
