Ich bin zurück aus dem Urlaub, in dem ich vor lauter Erlebnissen gar nicht so viel zum Lesen gekommen bin, wie gedacht.😅☺️ Zwei tolle Bücher habe ich trotzdem verschlungen und eins davon war „Die theoretische Unwahrscheinlichkeit von Liebe“ von Ali Hazelwood, das tatsächlich in einem unserer Airbnbs herumlag. 😍 Ich hatte vorher auf Social Media schon viel Gutes von dem Buch gehört und war froh, dass meine Erwartungen nicht enttäuscht wurden.🎉 📖 Die Handlung: Die Biologie-Doktorandin Olive kann mit Liebe nicht viel anfangen - bis sie sich durch ihre Freundin Anh dazu gedrängt fühlt, eine Beziehung vorzutäuschen. Für das Fake-Dating sucht sich Olive ausgerechnet den allseits gefürchteten, griesgrämigen Professor Adam Carlsen aus - der zu ihrer Überraschung auch noch zustimmt, das Spiel mitzuspielen und sich als deutlich freundlicher entpuppt, als gedacht. Doch wahre Gefühle können aus dieser Farce wohl kaum entstehen. Oder etwa doch?
 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ich fand die Geschichte wunderbar erfrischend, herzerwärmend und unterhaltsam zu lesen. Obwohl die Handlung an einigen Stellen sehr vorhersehbar war, haben Alis Schreibstil und die schlagfertigen Dialoge der Hauptfiguren dafür gesorgt, dass man unbedingt wissen wollte, wie es mit der Beziehung der beiden weitergeht. Außerdem gut gefallen hat mir das ungewöhnlichere Setting, bei dem man merkt, dass die Autorin sehr vertraut mit der Welt der Wissenschaft und Forschung ist und auch einige dort herrschende Missstände aufdecken möchte. Hey #bookies 🩷🩷💞 Vor der Arbeit noch mal ein " hallo" von mir. Danach wird es ruhig bleiben, da ich heute Hochzeitstag habe 💞 Dies ist die Woche meiner ersten Male. 🤭 Ich habe drei Bücher beendet, von deren Autorinnen ich zum ersten Mal etwas gelesen habe. ~ von welchem Autor/in habt ihr zuletzt etwas zum ersten Mal gelesen? Check& Mate war nun mein erstes Buch von Ali Hazelwood. Bride habe ich noch auf dem SuB liegen. Zudem war Check& Mate ein Buch von meiner #12für24 Liste. Ich empfand das Buch für eine süße Geschichte für zwischendurch. Ich verstehe, dass so viele die Bücher der Autorin mögen. Der Schreibstil ist locker und zackig gelesen. Geschrieben aus der Ich- Perspektive der Protagonistin konnte man sich gut in sie hineinversetzen. Sie ist mit 19 Jahren relativ jung und so kommt es auch rüber. Es war für mich eine Story zum entspannten Weglesen. Ich hatte leichte Bedenken, weil es um Schach geht und ich da so überhaupt gar keinen Plan habe. Aber diese Zweifel waren völlig unbegründet. Es ist alles leicht verständlich, auch wenn ich ein paar Begriffe nicht kannte. Man kann sich schon vorstellen worum es geht. Gefühlsmäßig hätte noch etwas mehr rüberkommen können. Zwischendurch waren Mallorys Gedanken sehr witzig und ich mochte Nolans entspannte Art ihr gegenüber. Auch hat die Autorin ein wichtiges Thema gut verpackt und eingearbeitet. This book has gotten so much hype, and it ABSOLUTELY DESERVES IT. I loved this novel by James McBride. Loved it. I saw lots of people raving about the audiobook, and while I thought the narrator was excellent, that format just did not work for me. There are just shy of a million characters in this novel and what also felt like a million little subplots—that McBride really beautifully weaves together as the story continues, so just go with it!—but it was just way too confusing for me as an audiobook, so I read most of this one with my physical copy. When I had 10 minutes of quiet in the car where I could focus, I would listen to snippets on audio because the narrator really was wonderful, but it’s just a complicated book, and I need a physical copy when that’s the case. A lot of really terrible things happen in this book, and yet there is just such a general tone of warmth and joy and humor. Moshe and Chona are such wonderful characters, and I loved them both deeply. I was so very satisfied with the conclusion of this story—it’s one that made me cry and hug it at the end. And the author’s note afterward made it even more meaningful. I’ve had people comment to me while I was reading that they were bogged down by the characters and complicated plots, but my advice would be to just push through and enjoy the ride. It all comes together, and you get to experience McBride’s gorgeous writing along the way. My only real criticism of the book is that I personally thought there were a couple of moments in the novel where McBride got a little too didactic, but honestly, the book was just so enjoyable overall, and he’s lived enough life on this earth that I forgave him for those moments. If he was a young writer I might have found those two spots more irritating, but I feel he’s earned the right to get a little preachy if he chooses. 🤣 CW/TW: There is a lot of sadness in this book, and there is one very brief but very terrible scene involving rape, so be prepared. Despite the dark moments, this was a perfect book for me nestled in with some middle grade reading. I’d love to hear from others of you who read this one! What did you think of it?

On va parler d'une saga qui a été trèèèèès en vogue sur 🅱🅾🅾🅺🆂🆃🅰 depuis pas mal de temps maintenant, même si elle commence à perdre en visibilité. Je parle de ♛ ℍ𝕒𝕕è𝕤 & ℙ𝕖𝕣𝕤é𝕡𝕙𝕠𝕟𝕖, de Scarlett St Clair @hugoroman_editions Je n'ai lu que le premier tome, et autant vous dire que les autres vont rester éternellement sur ma liseuse, sans jamais plus attirer mon attention... Aimeront cette lecture ceux qui apprécient : ♛ les scènes de smut (alors oui, ça peut être sympa, mais trop, c'est trop) ♛ la mythologie grecque très revisitée ♛ la plume simple pour une lecture rapide sans prise de tête ♛ les personnages simplistes ♛ le parti pris très moderne de la réécriture ♛ le roman très proche de Lore Olympus ♛ le système de magie des dieux Pour moi, c'est un grand NON. Les relations entre les personnages sont toxiques à souhait, et franchement pas intéressantes pour la plupart (Hécate et Hadès par moments sauvent un peu les meubles. Un peu) Et l'histoire, vraiment, quels sont les enjeux ? J'ai eu l'impression de lire un teen drama dans une ambiance légèrement mythologique, et autant j'avais apprécié Lore Olympus pour son esthétique sympathique, autant là, c'est difficile pour moi de trouver des vrais points positifs. Peut-être que le récit se développe dans les prochains tomes, mais je pense ne jamais trouver la force de me replonger dans l'univers de cette saga... Mais je suis curieuse, pour ceux qui ont aimé, quels sont à vos yeux les points forts de la saga ? Avez-vous des recommandations d'autres sagas mythologiques, ou autres livres dans le même genre ? Als Honesty bekannt gegeben wurde, war ich erst etwas verunsichert vom Klappentext, habe es aber doch vorbestellt und auch mit Farbschnitt der Bübü gekauft, da das Buch einfach gut werden musste! Und es war so! ...anfänglich habe ich mich etwas schwer getan, da man gefühlt sofort in einer laufenden Geschichte drin ist und viele Gefühle und Gedanken der Hauptprotagonistin Mae nicht wirklich versteht. Aber ab knapp der Hälfte des Buches ist dann auch bei mir der Knoten geplatzt. Und zum Ende hin, haben sich die Ereignisse dann so überschlagen und es war vorbei. Und das mit einem richtig fiesen #chliffhanger der mich sprachlos zurück ließ. . Ein absolut hammer Buch mit einem einzigartigen Worldbuilding, krassen Gesellschaftsstruckturen und einer korrupten Regierung. Eine Welt ohne Lügen und Neider. Eine Welt ohne Grenzen, wenn man das nötige Kleingeld hat. Das meine Beziehung zu Hype-Büchern schwierig ist wissen glaube ich alle, die mir hier schon länger folgen. xD Auf Serpents and the Wings of Night habe ich mich dennoch wirklich sehr gefreut, bin aber mit mixed Feelings zurück geblieben. 🥴 Fangen wir mal mit den Dingen an, die ich gut fand: • das Worldbuilding & Magic-System, auch wenn ich mir da noch mehr Infos gewünscht hätte + die verschiedenen Vampir-Rassen • das Trial-/Arena-Kampf-Setting: die verschiedenen Prüfungen waren total spannend und cool aufgebaut - der Einfallsreichtum hat mir wirklich gut gefallen 🥹 • Raihn: am Anfang fand ich ihn echt ätzend, aber im Verlauf des Buches ist er mir etwas ans Herz gewachsen weil er sehr gefühlvolle Schichten hatte & einige greenflag moments - durch ihn konnte ich die romance/den spice sogar ein bisschen mitfühlen • Mische: sie war der absolute sunshine Character & hat mich von Anfang an für sich gewonnen 🤎 Leider hört es da dann auch schon auf und mir sind einige Dinge sehr negativ aufgefallen 🥲 • Orayas plötzlicher Mary Sue Moment: ich hatte mich eigentlich darauf gefreut eine Protagonistin zu erleben, die eine angeborene Schwäche hat (sie ist ein Mensch in einer Welt voller Vampire) und die auch nicht loswird, plötzlich war sie aber doch die Stärkste und Tollste von allen, hat alles überlebt und trotz schwerer Wunden einfach weiter gemacht 😂 • das ständige Hin und Her und die Anschmachteritis: Ich habe verstanden, dass er hot ist und sie Trust-Issues hat, aber manchmal war es wirklich sehr dick aufgetragen - dazu kam ihre Naivität in bestimmten Situationen • die romance war für mich voller Klischees: er der große starke Typ (ich habe angefangen zu zählen wie oft seine Größe erwähnt wird.... und es wieder aufgegeben weil es zu oft war), sie die kleine schwache Frau • der Plot war für mich sehr oft vorhersehbar Ich weiß auch noch nicht ob ich Band 2 lesen werde. 😂🥲 Glaube das entscheide ich spontan, wenn ich im Buchladen davor stehe. Obwohl ich mir wirklich gewünscht hätte Serpents zu lieben, war es leider kein Highlight. Habt ihr das Buch schon gelesen?

Die Szenerie wird von so vielen unterschiedlichen Schauplätzen abgelöst. Man denkt immer: wow, wie auf dem Boden die alle geblieben sind, obwohl sie reich sind. Und dann ist es doch wieder ganz normal, dass es Dinge gibt, die sie eben nicht haben. Viele Gefühle und Gedanken sowie Erlebnisse aus der Vergangenheit prägen die Hauptprotagonistin Ross und ihr ständigen Stimmungsschwankungen halten sie nicht von ihrem Ziel ab. Bis dieses Ende kommt... . Ich hoffe sehr auf eine Fortsetzung. Guten Abend #buchherzen 💙💜🖤 Heute war so ein mega Wetter und wir die ganze Zeit im Garten 🌞 In der letzten Woche habe ich mal wieder ein Buch von @stellatack beendet. Und ich würde lügen, würde ich sagen, dass ich nicht auch in dem Fanbus sitze 🤭 Gelesen habe ich endlich den Auftakt zur Black Bird Academy Trilogie. Dark Academia und Romantasy. Wobei die Romantik noch etwas auf sich warten lässt. Denn hier gibt es richtig Bookboyfriend Material und die Protagonistin hat gerade noch andere Sorgen als sich da zu entscheiden. 😁 Ich bin mir auch ganz und gar nicht sicher, in welchem Team ich spielen soll. Exorzist? Dämon? Wiedergänger? Gut oder Böse? Und was, wenn das verschwimmt? Leaf Young, Kellnerin aus New York, zur falschen Zeit am falschen Ort. Leafs Freundinnen haben sie endlich mal aus der Bude zum Feiern bekommen, endet dieser Partyabend katastrophal für sie. Denn ein Dämon hat sie sich als Wirt ausgesucht. Doch Leaf ist stärker als gedacht und versucht ihn in den Hintergrund zu drängen. Doch leider ist er nun dennoch als Stimme in ihrem Kopf. Für Leaf nicht so toll, ist es für den Leser mitunter einfach nur witzig. Die Wortgefechte und die Gesangseinheiten von , nennen wir ihn, Lore. Der typische Humor und Sarkasmus der Autorin ist wie immer gegeben. Hinzu kommen die Exorzisten der Black Bird Academy, die Leaf auch zum Exorzisten ausbilden wollen. Doch in der Academy sind sich nicht alle einig und es wird spannend. Auf welcher Seite steht Falco und warum ist gerade er so fasziniert von Leaf? #teamlore 🤫🤭 Ich freue mich total auf Band 2 und bin gespannt wohin die Reise noch führt. Manchmal habe ich dadurch eine tolle Buchreihe entdeckt, wurde enttäuscht, überrascht, gelangweilt oder abgeholt – das war immer sehr unterschiedlich. Aber definitiv bin ich sehr beeinflussbar und auch schon dem ein oder anderem Hype nachgelaufen. Mein erster richtiger Romantasy-Acadamy Roman. Und ich bin überraschend positiv gestimmt. Mir gefällt der Schreibstil der Autorin und die tiefe der Gefühle der Protagonisten. Auch das Setting hat sie sehr gut erschaffen wodurch ich mittendrin in 'Corvina Castle' war. . Durch die Story war ich auch gut gefesselt und fand sie spannend erzählt. Auch der #chliffhanger ist mal wieder echt fies! Nur gut das ich Band 2 direkt nachschieben kann. • Klare Leseempfehlung! Und: was für eine wunderschöne Aufmachung diese Trilogie erst hat. Eine High Fantasy Geschichte mit einer bissigen Götterjägerin, einem traumatisierten Ritter, der zum Brot backen übergegangen ist und ein Kind, dass an den Gott der Notlügen gebunden ist. Was nach einer bunten Mischung klingt, ist auch genau das, gepaart mit einigen Längen aber einer soliden Geschichte, die die 4 Reisenden zusammenschweisst und nach gemeinsamen Lösungen suchen lässt. Die teils vulgäre Sprache hat mich etwas gestört, ebenfalls das fehlende Worldbuilding – zwar gab es viele Beschreibungen und eine Karte, allerdings kam es mir etwas distanziert vor. Gut gefallen haben mir die Illustrationen im Umschlag und auch die Entwicklung der Charaktere. Zum Schluss wurde die Geschichte recht actionreich und spannend. Da hat der @carlsenverlag echt wieder ein mega Teil rausgehauen! Hoffentlich haut mich der Inhalt auch genauso um! Und der absolute Hammer: es hat sogar ein Lesebändchen!!! *yay* 🥰 . Und angefixt durch meinen letzten #read, musste ich nach dem Live von Ursula Poznanski auch zwei weiterer ihre Bücher haben. "Saeculum" hat sogar den Farbschnitt aus der 1. Je parle bien sûr de la sage ♛ 𝔹𝕝𝕒𝕔𝕜𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕖𝕣, de Michael McDowell par @monsieurtoussaintlouverture Personnellement, j'ai lu la saga au cœur de la canicule il y a deux ans, l'atmosphère suffocante était parfaitement en adéquation avec la météo ! Aimeront cette lecture ceux qui apprécient : ♛ les saga familiales où l'on suit plusieurs générations ♛ les monstres, ce n'est pas le centre de l'histoire, mais quand même ♛ les personnages féminins forts et indépendants, qui détiennent le pouvoir ♛ le rythme un peu inégal de la narration ♛ le surnaturel ♛ le folklore de l'Alabama des années 1900' ♛ l'immense variété des personnages J'ai trouvé la hype totalement justifiée pour cette saga ! Premièrement, il faut parler des couvertures de la maison d'édition, qui sont complètement FOLLES. Ensuite, j'ai beaucoup aimé le côté "série" du rythme de publication, j'avais l'impression d'attendre le nouvel épisode d'une série, comme à l'époque ! Mon tome préféré a été, et de loin, le 3ème. Je ne résiste pas au mysticisme de la maison d'𝓐𝓵𝓲𝓷𝓸𝓻 𝓒𝓪𝓼𝓴𝓮𝔂, on adore détester 𝓜𝓪𝓻𝓲𝓮-𝓛𝓸𝓿𝓮, bref, j'ai passé un très bon moment, et ai savouré chaque tome ! Les deux derniers m'ont moins plu, les personnages suivis me plaisant un peu moins, et j'ai été presque triste de quitter les Caskey au moment de tourner la dernière page ! Et c'est certaine, je lirai les aiguilles d'or du même auteur et de la même maison d'édition 😍 Et vous, pensez-vous que cette saga mérite toutes ces éloges ? Guten Abend #booknerds 📖 ~Wart ihr die Woche schon arbeiten? Ich hatte heute den ersten Arbeitstag in diesem Jahr und bin eigentlich schon wieder für Urlaub. Es war so voll heute bei uns in der Praxis😟 Zudem ist noch meine beste Freundin mit akutem Blinddarm operiert worden 😭 es ist aber wieder alles gut soweit. Wie so eine OP wohl im 19. Jahrhundert vonstatten gegangen ist? Ich habe mit " Stalking Jack the Ripper" von @kerrimaniscalco aus dem @piperverlag ( Werbung/selbst gekauft) mein erstes Buch in 2024 beendet. Historische Romane sind ja nicht so ganz mein Genre, wenn es allerdings um Mörder, Krimi und Medizin geht, bin ich doch wieder voll dabei. Und dieser Roman hat das alles vereint. Wir schreiben das Jahr 1888 in London. Aus der Sicht der jungen Adligen Audrey Rose, die statt wie es sich gehört zu feinen Teepartys zu gehen und sich von ebenso hochrangigen Herren den Hof machen zu lassen, lieber im Kellerlaboratorium ihres Onkels Leichen seziert. Sie geht mehr oder minder heimlich bei ihrem Onkel in die Lehre der Gerichtsmedizin. Natürlich schickten sich solche Berufe damals nicht für Frauen. Audrey Rose setzt sich jedoch durch und schleicht sich auch gegen den Willen ihres Vaters hinaus. Im Laboratorium trifft sie auf Thomas Cresswell mit dem sie die Faszination für die Wissenschaft teilt. Als dann mehrere Morde mit ähnlichem Muster geschehen, fangen sie an zu ermitteln und folgen den Spuren. Dabei begibt Audrey Rose sich nicht nur einmal in Gefahr. Und wohin die Spuren sie zum Schluß führen, hätte sie so nicht erwartet. Geniale Charaktere, ein authentisches Setting und eine düstere, gar schaurige Atmosphäre sorgen für Spannung. Hinzu kommt ein kleines bisschen Romantik in slow burn. Klasse finde ich, dass die echten Namen teilweise übernommen wurden, natürlich hat die Autorin die Zeitachsen etwas geändert um die Geschichte anzupassen, aber alles in allem super gut recherchiert und zu einem klasse Roman zusammengefügt. Zudem hat mich das Buch auch zeitweise etwas zum Nachdenken gebracht. Brauchten wir vielleicht solche komplett Irren, wie Jack the Ripper, um heute auf dem Stand der Wissenschaft zu sein, auf dem wir sind? 🤔

RUTHLESS VOWS! This duology won my heart this year! 🖤💙 I'm going to keep my review spoiler-free in case anyone hasn't read Divine Rivals yet. But I'll say that Ruthless Vows kept the same vibes loved in Divine Rivals. I love the historical-fantasy setting. I love the magical typewriters. The mythology in the world is unique. The war and conflict feels real. The side characters are just as compelling as the main characters. And oh, the main characters. I love that we get both POVs. I love the letter writing. I love their commitment to each other and that most of the drama and conflict happens outside their relationship. I love their personalities and I'd honestly love to be friends with either one of them. In short, if you haven't read this Duology, do it now! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's just the two books so no waiting for more in the series. There's mild coarse language and vague open-door romance. I also listened to these on Audible and the narrators are fantastic. 💙Now, in case you're wondering on the editions, I have answers for you! SWIPE TO SEE! >> I ordered the black B&N edition of Ruthless Vows during a preorder sale months ago. That was when we only had the jackets to look at, and I do think I like the black and turquoise cover a little more than the white. But then as early reviews started coming I realized the B&N edition has a different hardcover! The quote is nice, but I personally prefer the Dear Roman typewriter on the regular edition. I love how it matches Divine Rivals. So I ordered the regular hardcover too. 😂 Barnes & Noble doesn't let you cancel preorders so here I am with both copies. This is not what I expected. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I came into this with such high expectations due to the hype and it just wasn’t giving… it gave me more YA feels and had the same vibes as the Red Queen series. That’s not a bad thing at all, but it wasn’t what I expecting or looking for. 🤔 Now, I am invested and maybe if I didn’t know it was aimed and released as adult fantasy and I hadn’t heard all the hype around it, I would have gushed about it more, but I just had such high expectations. Oktober im Buddyread mit @kathrin.inlovewithbooks 》Welches Buch/Trilogie hat euch zuletzt komplett zwiegespalten zurück gelassen?《 Uff, also am liebsten würde ich diese Rezension hinten über fallen lassen. Ich habe echt so gar keinen Plan was ich nun zu dem dritten Teil der Elfenreihe und der gesamten Trilogie sagen soll. Ich glaub mich hat noch nie eine Buchreihe so unentschlossen zurück gelassen. Ich habe mir gerade auch noch alle Memos angehört, die ich mit Kathrin getauscht habe - aber es bleibt wie es ist. Ein großes: Keine Ahnung wie ich es bewerten soll! 🙄🤷🏽‍♀️ Es war irgendwie nichts halbes nichts ganzes. Ich habe mir eine richtig krasse Trilogie drunter vorgestellt, die düster, spannend und vorallem mit einer heißer Enemies to Lovers Story gepickt ist. Irgendwie habe ich aber was komplett anderes bekommen. Ich möchte erstmal mit dem Schreibstil beginnen, der auf jeden Fall mal was anderes ist, eine andere Perspektive, eine eigene Art, die es mir zu Anfang schwer gemacht hat in die Story zu kommen. Später fand ich es dann durchaus interessant: mal was anderes vom Stil her! Leider hatte ich im ersten Band ungefähr bis zur Hälfte das Gefühl, dass ich ein düsteres Kinderbuch lese. Mit Protagonisten im Grundschulalter die sich brutale Streiche spielen. Irgendwann wurde mir dann Jude ein bisschen sympathischer, knallhart und gewiefter. Wenn auch etwas größenwahnsinnig und zum Schluss vom zweiten Teil etwas naiv. Den männlichen Protagonisten fand ich durchaus interessant, aber irgendwie fehlte mir bis zum Schluss der prickelnde Funken für die Lovestory. Diese hat mich auch bis zum Schluss konsequent enttäuscht. Ich konnte die Anziehung beider Protagonisten überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen, mir fehlten die spannenden Situationen und alles wirkte eher konstruiert, als natürlich. Die Darstellung ihrer Beziehung konnte ich deshalb so gar nicht fühlen, was echt schade war, denn auf die hatte ich wirklich gebaut. Die Story an sich hatte einige Aspekte die mir echt gut gefallen haben, wie zB der Cliffhanger von Band 2. Ich fands fies, aber gerecht. ⬇️ ⬇️

Firstly thank you to @avviarebookishart for hosting the readalong for Fourth Wing. It gave me the much needed push to read one of 2023's most hyped books. Also thank you to all the lovely people on our WhatsApp group for the chats, theories, memes, and videos! Secondly, what do I say about this book that hasn't already been said?! So I'm going to keep this short and sweet. Violet has become one of my favourite heroines. She's resourceful, a bit of a smart ass, strong, and determined. She overcomes her weaknesses and grows immensely as a character. The chemistry between her and Xaden is undeniable and off the charts. There's an amazing cast of sassy side characters. The dragons, especially Tairn, are so fiercely protective and Andarna is just the most precious thing ever, and I can't wait to see more of her. It's captivating, and the world building amazing. I laughed, I cried, fell in love with the characters. and wished I could live in Navarre. While we catch glimpses of the politics, it left me craving more understanding of the intricate and underlying issues which I hope we get in book two. Even though it's over 500 pages, the pace never slows down. Highly addictive and hard to put down. It's an explosive start to this series, I was hanging on every word. Alors oui, certains se révèlent être une véritable surprise ou du moins aussi incroyables que prévu, mais d'autres sont également complètement over-rated à cause de cette sur-exposition sur les réseaux. If you’ve been on bookstagram for even a minute this fall, you’ve seen everyone raving about this Lisa Jewell book. I’m not typically much of a thriller/suspense reader, but I try to add in one or two every October as fun seasonal reading. Part of why I’m not a big thriller reader is that I’m also a big baby and don’t enjoy being scared or reading disturbing things 🤪, so I have to pick carefully. I had seen some friends say that this one was a good choice for someone who doesn’t typically love this genre and is a more sensitive thriller/suspense reader. I can see all the hype for this one—I devoured this book because I was so eager to see what happened next and how it ended. I think I read almost all of it within one (very unproductive 🤣) grading day. With that said, it was a reminder to me why I don’t typically love thrillers. Maybe it was just this book in particular, but the resolution felt sort of disappointing, and I didn’t particularly like or resonate with any of the characters, which is always such an important part of my reading experience. I’m still glad I read it because it was a fun page-turner in the midst of a busy grading season. I believe strongly in the importance of reading widely, so while I’m enjoying War and Peace and Middlemarch, it’s also fun to throw in some easy, quick contemporary reading to change things up. And this is the perfect season for a suspenseful read! What did you think of this one?? This was my first one by her. Next up for my seasonal reading is The Twyford Code by Janice Hallett, a crime fiction novel that apparently is surprisingly heartwarming for the genre, which is exactly my sort of October read. 🥰 What is your current seasonal read?

Minor Spoiler of the book kinda below As someone who’s clearly heavy in both booktok and bookstagram idk how I feel about hype booktok books yes booktok books translate later on into bookstagram post books but something about it blowing up on booktok just eh… I recently binged read the book above according to a lot of big booktok post I should have been bawling my eyes out… I might have gotten teary eyed at the last chapter.., but nowhere near heart wrenching bawling my eyes out… this isn’t the only booktok book that made me feel disappointed this is why I stay clear from most of them till a year or two after do I hate that I miss the initial hype? Yes cuz I went to be part of the chaos but I get to enjoy it without being influenced and forced into liking it or else gang mentality a lot of the hype books and its readers push….. My thoughts This one was really big when I first started by Booksta account. I loved the idea of it but wasn’t quite sure it was the book for me. As I was undecided and couldn’t get it from the library I managed to not to give into the hype. One of my book club members brought it along so I jumped at the chance to read it. I loved the gothic feel of the book and learning all about the herbal poisons and their uses. The dual timeline worked well and I liked seeing how to two came together. It was a little slow to start but did pick up speed towards the end. I would have liked a bit more mystery and vengeance but a solid read. QOTD: do you give in easily to Booksta hype? 🌈👑Book Review👑🌈 – Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston   Right – I have been putting this off for so long and then when it was on Kindle Deal. I ran out of excuses. This book has been SOO hyped, like so HYPED and you know what I GET IT. I will highlight that this won’t be for everyone but if you are looking for a lighthearted romance that tugs at your heartstrings. Look no further and go pick this up. Also, this is the first actual gay love story I have read in this genre and I am here for it.   We follow the story of Alex (the half-Mexican son of the first female president) & Henry (The Prince of Wales) as they have to create a friendship after a public spectacle. As their relationship develops, so does the political situation in both countries and all eyes are on them.   I loved the political backdrop to this book, it just adds a slightly more interesting element to your standard romance book and YES to there being a female president. All the characters are fantastically well done, not just the leads. The book manages to include so many great pop culture references but also still includes some slightly more hard-hitting topics such as conversations around race, LGBTQ+ rights, politics and history.   I am so glad I got around to reading this. Review time! 📙 Ok first of all, I have loved seeing all the amazing cover recreations of this book, and I just had to give it a try too! So fun! The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley has had lots of Booksta buzz lately. I'm going to add my praise because I really liked it too! I was expecting kind of a romantic comedy, but it really isn't. It's more of a women's fiction with some sweet romance. It reminds me a little of Lessons in Chemistry. (Which I also loved.) Isadora is an academic researcher who is unsatisfied with her life and she sets out to disprove a "30 steps to Happiness" magazine article. There were so many things to love about this book. I love the academia setting, the love interest 😍 (you all know I'm a sucker for the smart guys!), the found family and wonderful side characters. There are some deep and poignant moments and overall just feels good at the end. ❤️ This is clean with no open door scenes or language. The audiobook was very well done. It would be perfect for a book club or buddy read.
