It has a limited edition of 30 and will be sold at the museumshop of Museum MONet in Tokamachi during the Echigo-Tsumari-Art-Triennale this summer for a friendly price. Got the Triennale I will build a large site-specific work. The Triennale expect more than half a million visitors this summer. So for me a good chance to become more known within Japan. Though only five years had passed, the city seemed relatively unchanged, yet its people had undergone a noticeable transformation. There’s now an abundance of small shops, quaint locales, and charming cafes, each owned by remarkably unique individuals. These proprietors exude a sense of self-assurance and confidence, yet they remain incredibly approachable and hospitable. They extend a warm welcome to all who step through their doors, treating them with the same warmth as longtime friends. In contrast to my experiences in the States, where I often felt the need to present a certain image to garner respect, here in Osaka, authenticity reigns supreme. Whether it’s their genuine reactions to me, my family, or my art, the support and warmth I receive are unwavering. Rather than adhering to the mantra of ‘fake it till you make it,’ finding acceptance for who I truly am, and forming genuine connections has created a nurturing environment where we can all thrive and grow together. Nishimura Orimono is a family-run Hakata-ori textile company that was founded in 1861. Hakata-ori is a weaving style that originated in China before being refined to become the textile it is known as today. It is a designated traditional craft and was used as an offering to the Shogunate during the Edo Period. Inside the Nishimura Orimono factory, visitors can see the looms in action, weaving thousands of delicate silk threads to create an ornate and densely woven textile. Hakata-ori was traditionally used as the material for kimono obi sashes but has been since adapted to fit modern products. She uses photography and moving images as media for her creations, and she often conceptualizes and creates sound pieces in a visual manner.
