This is a very interesting paper from Hazekamp, 2016, that looked at the effects of gamma irradiation on #cannabinoid and #terpene content along with structural effect on 4 varieties medicinal cannabis. Unfortunately, due to the nature of herbal cannabis, growth of microbes is inevitable, some harmless, others deadly. Gamma irradiation works by disrupting the DNA of the microbes and therefore preventing it from reproducing. Interestingly, they also cover the safety to the consumer in the introduction, which I would encourage you to read. They concluded that when 10kGy of radiation was used there was no effect on the major cannabinoids CBD and THC, however the loss of terpenes such as #myrcene and #linalool was observed in some strains, however, this is no more significant than storing in a bag at room temperature over a long period of time.
