“Funambule”, 1971
By Portuguese artist Vasco Costa (1917 - 1986)
He is considered the first Portuguese artist to create abstract expressionism.
In his early years, Vasco Costa attended the António Arroio Decorative Arts School, but in 1942, he became an American citizen to join the army, and as such, he participated in the liberation of Europe. Later, he settled permanently in Paris, where he devoted himself entirely to painting, and his artistic career gradually moved from figurative to abstract, producing a considerable body of work of historical importance.
