🔭David Kalākaua, Inventor and Hawaiian King👑
David Kalākaua, often called the Merrie Monarch, was the last king of the penultimate monarchy of Hawaii having reigned from 1874-1891. In addition to his royal status, Kalākaua was a scientist, inventor, world traveler, and an avid astronomy enthusiast. Among his inventions were an improved double screw, an improved bottle stopper, and a torpedo-proof vessel. Kalākaua also brought the first permanent telescope to Hawaii, leading to the eventual construction of the MacNeil Observatory and Science Center.
