Exploring Griotte Chambertin.
Starting with the pair of 89 Ponsot and 96 roty, the 89 was clearly the winner with its seductive complexity and beautiful tertiary flavours that came together beautifully. The 96 roty took a little time to open up but while delicious came across as a less integrated juice compared to even the 99 roty that came in the next flight.
Next up the 99 Ponsot and the 99 roty. The roty here took the Ponsot and won by a head! The roty just had that sophistication and structure while the Ponsot while delicious felt it needed a little more time. All the goodness is there and the 99 Ponsot could surprise in the future.
In the final flight of the 09 Ponsot, 10 drouhin and the 13 CLF, to me it was clear the drouhin was the clear winner. There was a freshness and power from the drouhin which happens to also be one of my benchmark Griotte’s.
And of course not forgetting the 2 ramonets. The 13 ruchottes was superb from start to end. And while most thought the BBM was slightly oxidised I thought it was delicious. Albeit just a little shorter than one would expect.
