What arteries supply the upper limb? Let’s take a look...

UPPER LIMB ARTERIAL ANATOMY

The main 5 arteries are:
1️⃣ Subclavian artery
▫️We start off above the arm with the subclavian artery - this arises from the brachiocephalic trunk on the right whilst on the left it usually arises directly from the aortic arch (remember the usual three main branches of the arch of the aorta are the brachiocephalic trunk, the left common carotid artery and the left subclavian artery)

▫️It courses laterally towards the arm becoming the axillary artery at the lateral border of the first rib

2️⃣ Axillary artery
▫️This runs underneath pectoralis minor, becoming the brachial artery at the lower border of teres minor

3️⃣ Brachial artery
▫️The vessel then passes into the cubital fossa where it divides into the:

4️⃣ Radial artery
▫️Supplying the posterolateral part of the forearm
And
5️⃣ Ulna artery
▫️Supplying the anteromedial part of the foreman

▫️The radial and ulnar arteries then anastomose with each other, forming two palmar arches supplying the hand - the superficial and deep palmar arches

👨🏽‍💻Before looking at scans it’s so important to have a good grasp of the basic anatomy so any time spent reviewing this is in my opinion time well spent!
