No matter where you start: all roads lead to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Pilgrims congregate, relax, and celebrate the completion of their journey on the massive square in front of the cathedral. They also have the option of attending a special pilgrims’ mass, and of hugging a giant statue of the apostle James inside the cathedral. For me, this was an unforgettable experience, not because I’m particularly spiritual, but because the lady sitting beside me had unbelievably bad halitosis and I spent the entire 45mins gagging. Fun times! 🤮
For real though: I did get a bit teary, both in the square and inside the cathedral. It was a super fun week and I’m proud of my achievement 😊
