my chest physically aches finishing this book.
where do i begin? jay kristoff’s writing has never failed me. he is an absolute genius. the constant shift in prose along with the ability to switch between the timeline so effortlessly?
no one is on par with his skill of story telling. his ability to craft characters is unreal, gabriel exhibits such flaws and such strength he is such a complex character i cannot help but love him.
the plot and storyline was so intriguing with the perfect amount of not giving too much away but simultaneously keeping me hooked, a skill not often perfected.
i took my time reading this and i am so glad i did. this book is long and hefty with so much in depth world building strung along with complex, morally grey characters. it needs time to be digested. also the heartbreak experienced throughout this book could not all be witnessed in one sitting. after reading certain chapters i had to put the book down and have a break.
also the way love and devotion was portrayed in this book??? whether it was paternal or romantic, the adoration described rivals some the most well-known romances to date.
overall a 5/5 rating. i have no notes how it could’ve been better. i’m still reeling after finishing it.
lord give me strength when i recover and decide to read the sequel.
