The cities painted by Luca Matti are unreal, cartoonish, hellish. The buildings in this painting look like shoe boxes marked by many small vertical slits, the buildings are piled up against each other so as to build a suffocating topography. It is a theatrical depiction of an urban nightmare. In contrast, the graphic line with which these nightmarish scenarios are realized is tasteful and almost playful, as if a kind of casual cheerfulness, a corrosive and festive ironic spirit is inserted into this unlivable city. A rainbow of gray hues dominates everything and infuses the city with a burst of energy, revealing the skillful depth of the gaze of those who created this work.
