Whoa!! This is a stunning association of an exceptionally nice Zlichovaspis rugosa trilobite along with an enrolled Reedops. It was collected from the Lhandar Formation near Atchana, Morocco. The Zlichovaspis is slightly arched but would be over 4" long if outstretched and has a gorgeous, multi-colored shell. Preparation is excellent and the genal spines have been prepared free-standing. There is an enrolled reedops just to the side of its tail. A very aesthetic trilobite association with NO RESTORATION, a top quality piece. This is an impressive, 3.3" long Zlichovaspis spinifera trilobite collected near Lghaft, Morocco. The limestone surrounding it has been removed so that it appears to "fly" on a pillar of rock. 🔍 این تریلوبیت فوقالعاده زیبا و کمیاب به «پروانه دریاهای قدیم» شهرت دارد؛ هم به خاطر خارهای بلند روی گونهاش که به امتداد سینه و تا نزدیکی دم به عقب رفتهاند، هم به خاطر چشمهای مرکب برجسته و زیبایش، نیز به خاطر انعطاف و نرمی سینهاش که احتمالا سازوکاری دفاعی بوده برای حفاظت از سطح نرم زیرین بدن جانور بندپا، درست مثل خرخاکیهای امروزی؛ رفتاری که در این سنگواره هم به زیبایی حفظ شده و مشهود است. این نمونه زیبا مرحمت آقای دکتر شاهین زمان به مجموعه آموزشی و علمی این فقیر است. خاستگاه آن کوههای #اطلس #مراکش است و قدمتش به عصر پراگیَن از دوره دِوونیَن، یعنی ۲/۸±۴۱۰/۸ تا ۲/۸±۴۰۷/۶ میلیون سال پیش، بازمیگردد. در ایران ما هم البته #فسیل تریلوبیتهای زیبایی پیدا شدهاند، البته نه به این اندازه. رمز بزرگی و غنای سنگوارههای تریلوبیت #مراکش، #اقلیم سرد و غنی از #اکسیژن دریاهایی است که چهارصد میلیون سال پیش در نزدیکی #قطب قرار داشتند و حرکات #پوسته_زمین، بستر آنها را از قعر آب برکشید به کوهستانهای اطلس در مراکش امروز بدل کرد. #رسوبات ایرانی حاوی #سنگواره تریلوبیت احتمالا در دریاهای گرمتری نهشته شدند و از این رو، اندازه نمونههای ایرانی کوچکتر است. قبلا تصویر و شرح حال و خاستگاه نمونههایی از سنگوارههای #تریلوبیت ایران را خدمت شما تقدیم کردهام. سنگوارهها در طبیعت به همین شکل پیدا نمیشوند؛ روی این سنگواره هم رد پرداخت بازمانده از نوک مته و قوت ابزار حجاری استادکاری دیده میشود که با زدودن نقاب سنگی، پس از ۴۱۰ میلیون سال، این تریلوبیت زیبا را دوباره زنده کرده و از آرامگاه تنگ صخره آهکی بیرون کشیده است. @zaman_treasure #Zlichovaspis #zlichovaspis_spinifera #Dalmanitidae #Phacopida #trilobite #arthropod #fossil #fossil_frenziness

This is a 2.1" long specimen of Zlichovaspis spinifera quarried near Lghaft, Morocco. The shell of these species is covered in tiny bumps, hence the species name. Nice eye facet preservation in both eyes. Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet with over 25k described species, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to a hard exoskeleton (shell), they left a excellent fossil record. Shields up. ✨ Zlichovaspis rugosa, a new trilobite in bronze, fresh from oxidation and polishing. A sleek steampunk U-boat of an animal. What a mouthful of a name, though! Zlichov is a Czech city, a geological formation, and a major extinction event about 400 million years ago, in the Devonian, where this guy’s from. That’s the first half. “Aspis” is the Greek word for shield, a word that — unsurprisingly — decorates much of the trilobite nomenclature. A newborn trilobite is a protaspis (“first shield”), the juvenile is a meraspis (“part shield”), and the adult is a holaspis (“whole shield”). This guy’s a holaspis. ⭐️ About half his final size — this is a test piece. (Pinch in to see...)✨ Zlichovaspis rugosa’s particular style of eye facets are shared by many of his cousins in order Phacopida — but no one else: this organization evolved only once, and no living creature shares it. These schizochroal eyes had arrayed calcite lenses nestled into the eye surface, close but not touching. We find the lenses preserved in fossils, still perfectly arrayed, sometimes a strikingly distinct color. Just received back from cleaning , this is a Trilobite I dug myself in October last year. This is Zlichovaspis, sp. Not sure which one. Lovely green colouration measuring 8cm including the spine at the end of the pygidium.
