The iconic M16 series is making way for the future! The U.S. Army has officially adopted the revolutionary XM7 rifle, marking a historic shift in close combat weaponry. The XM7 features a 6.8mm round, which has demonstrated impressive performance during testing. Soldiers have reported that the XM7’s rounds easily penetrate steel plates, making it significantly more powerful than the standard M4 carbine’s 5.56mm rounds. The XM7 rifle will officially replace both the M4/M16 rifles and the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) for close combat units, including infantry, scouts, combat engineers, and special forces.
