So Saturday I went to the place where mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea . @hughmccannsweddings in the picturesque town of Newcastle to be exact. We are smack bang in the middle of wedding season 2024 with some gorgeous weddings completed and many more to come. The garden work is also in full swing, planting, watering, maintaining and of course the reward of cutting all those delicate scented blooms. This week we cut our first batch of sweet pea and used them in budvases and bridal party bouquets and they were amazing. Everyone commented on the beautiful scent of the flowers. It’s also a fantastic way to include the kiddies in all the fun and action! Each person will choose a colour sand that represents them as an individual. During the ceremony, a vessel containing each colour sand will be poured individually by the family members into a larger container. If I told you I got into wedding photography for the money, I'd be lying. It’s a challenging profession, full of stress and potential worries. You don’t pursue this career for the income; you do it because you truly love photography. For me, it's also about the joy of connecting with people. I love the fun and camaraderie that comes with arriving at a house and fitting right in. By the time I arrive, I've done my homework, so my main goal is to blend in and make everyone comfortable. That’s exactly what happened at Eimear and Dylan’s wedding yesterday. The moment I arrived, I struck up a conversation with Joe, the bride’s father. It felt like we had known each other for years. He showed me around, and it was such a warm welcome. Inside the house, I met the bridal crew—two bridesmaids and the bride’s mother. We were all laughing and chatting away. When I met Eimear, it was the same—full of laughter and easy conversation. Irish people have such big hearts, filled with love and worn on their sleeves. I don’t do this job for the money. I do it because I love it, because it allows me to be myself and enjoy the moment. Yesterday was a beautiful day at two stunning locations, Gougane Barra and Inishshannon House Hotel. Despite a few showers, the weather turned out great for us. As always, I felt like a guest at the wedding—a guest who happens to be taking pictures of friends.
