The final day of the Cubs Fall Classic was one of the best the tournament has hosted. Fans were treated to two spectacular semi final games - the first one between the Mid Island Pirates and Victoria Seawolves which required extra innings before the Seawolves took the lead in the top of the 8th and held on for the 2-1 win. The second semi final between the North Island Cubs and the Parksville Royals ended in another close, well-played game with the Royals coming out on top by a score of 4-3. The final was a back and forth slugfest between the Seawolves and Royals with a total of 4 homeruns hit between the two teams! After being down for most of the game, the Seawolves battled back and tied it up in the top of the 7th which set the stage for a walk off home-run by Hayden Robbins in the bottom of the 7th to clinch the game and the Fall Classic Cup for the Royals. Congratulations go out to Parksville, Victoria, Mid-Island, North Island and Cowichan for a superb tournament and some excellent baseball! Day two is in the books from the 2023 Cubs Fall Classic. Another day of exciting baseball was played under beautiful sunny skies at the Sportsplex. Several players added their names to the growing list of homerun hitters over the last two days, including our very own Kanoah Sequeira who launched a grand slam homerun over the chain link monster in left field in tonight’s game against the Cowichan Mariners. The semi finals have been set for tomorrow as the Mid-Island Pirates play host to the Victoria Seawolves at 9am, and the North Island Cubs square off against the Parksville Royals at 11:30. The North Island Cubs are your 2022 Fall Classic Champions! The Cubs walked off the Parksville Royals in the bottom of the 7th inning to win the tournament in dramatic fashion. Hunter Auramenko’s 2RBI double to tie the game, followed by the most exciting play in baseball - Kaleb Robertson’s squeeze bunt to score Zach Auramenko for the win! The semi finals are now set after Day 2 of tournament play. The Parksville Royals defeated the Victoria Seawolves in a very close game by a score of 1-0, while the North Island Cubs topped the Nanaimo Pirates 16-4 under the lights at Nunns Creek. Parksville plays Nanaimo Monday at 10:00am in the semi final, while the Cubs get a bye to the Championship game at 1:00pm against the winner of the semi final.
