Songyang Bookstore, vandyke brown print. I printed my final, finalfinal, finalfinalfinal step wedge today for the massive paper chart and am able to return to making work. Why wasn't I done weeks ago as I said? I decided to add argyrotype and vandyke brown to the chart NOW instead of coming up with future iterations so I am really really finalfinal done. 1300+ step wedges, 35,000 words, off to Malin Fabbri as we speak (don't worry, the free version is much less daunting, only 7000 wds). During the testing I found that VDB was such a pleasant process, hardly paper picky. It'll be fun to go back to rotating VDB, argyrotype, and salted paper in my alt class next year. #vandykebrown

Whenever I’m stuck I try to change up my process to see it from a different angle. I keep trying to mess with the boundary of what photography is- a moment, a representation, a pretty thing, an ugly thing, a nothing, a receipt. It’s all of those things. Yesterday I tried taking some dried emulsion and mono printed it onto wetted paper and let it dry. I went to Death Valley once in Oct. I nearly died of the heat using a LF camera. I loved these Deglect Noor Date palms imported from the Canary Islands in the early 1900s. I actually thought they were native🙈. The Borax company used to export dates from the trees until the 1930s. This is an oasis in the arid lands of an area that is 190 feet under sea level. Been working a little bit each day to get our bathroom floor redone and add new quarter inch trim. It’s certainly been a labor of love and I am so excited to be finished with it! Trying to do this all with a toddler is no joke. My son has taken an interest in my miter sheers and caulk gun and grabs them any chance I’m not looking😂 I finally decided to go back to @sherwinwilliams Van Dyke Brown for the vanity (in satin) and added new hardware from Lowe’s for $6/pc. If you’re doing a small paint project, the most budget friendly option is to go to Lowe’s and get a paint sample (I think they’re $5 or something)! I would really like to replace the faucet for a gold one and get an antique mirror with some embellishment on it but I’ll save that for another time. One of my current projects it to print dry plate negatives using the Van Dyke Brown process. I am printing both contemporary negatives I made using plates supplied by Zebra Dry Plate and by J. Lane Dry Plates as well as negatives made by my grandfather, Claude Worcester (1892-1969) using plate made by Hammer Dry Plate Company. Most of the photographs, both historic and contemporary, are taken with a 1920 vintage Seneca Chautauqua Junior folding bed camera for 4×5″ glass plates. Spent over two hours working on this half of the piece. Even though I’m not finished with him, I feel great about this. The paints I use allow me to work them like oils. Been saving this really decrepit little piece of paper that I got from Art Parts for a year or two now thinking it’s interesting- I wonder if I can print on it. Well today I did and it printed very well. I like the little square shaped bubbles that formed when I put the emulsion on it. It’s like tissue in delicacy- had to be extra cautious. Very tricky to work on 50 yo handmade Japanese paper, a Van Dyke Brown print of one of my last tulips growing as the season is waning. Working in art every day despite all the demands of stacking wood, volunteering at book centre and attending retrospectives of my fellow artists makes art the only sustaining raison de etre in a world of increasingly loss of civility towards each other.
