Today, I attended the BFL conference in Toronto 💝 It was a great experience and I met so many like-minded people. Throughout the event, we heard from different speakers including a prosecutor, lawyers, and law students. However, the highlight was a client consultation activity where we worked in groups to create our own firms and onboard a potential client. My team (first slide) won. Overall, it was an insightful event and I learned a lot about the importance of networking and building rapport. The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, dedicated to the promotion of international law, is the world’s largest moot court competition with nearly 700 law schools represented across 100 countries. 🌎 JD students Vidit Desai (2L), Arik Portnov (2L), Eyal Wilk (2L), and Foti Vito (3L) will represent Canada at the international rounds in Washington, D.C., March 30 - April 6, 2024. 🙌 Desai and Portnov (counsel for the respondent) faced Osgoode Hall Law School in the final playoff round before a panel including Amanda Garay (Global Affairs Canada), David Quayat (Public Prosecution Service of Canada), and Sacha Baharmand (Justice Canada). The team celebrates with second-time coaches, #UofTalumni Misha Boutilier (JD 2018) and Daniel Sisgoreo (JD 2019). Boutilier is a Judicial Research Lawyer at the Court of Appeal for Ontario and Sisgoreo is a litigation associate at Quinn Emanuel's New York office. The team also extends their gratitude to the 3L student coaches and 2023 Jessup alumni, Julia Cappellacci, Jack Stewart, and Nicolas Williams, as well as the practitioners, scholars and #UofTLaw alumni who generously provided feedback during their preparation for the competition. --- Photo: Jessup coaches and mooters: Nicolas Williams (3L), Misha Boutilier (JD 2018), Eyal Wilk (2L), Vidit Desai (2L), Arik Portnov (2L), and Foti Vito (3L).

This evening, #UofTLaw and #UofTalumni gathered to commemorate the career and contributions of University Professor Stephen Waddams (1942-2023), an internationally recognized scholar of contract law and legal history. 📚 Speakers reflected on Waddams’ scholarly impact on judiciary and the development of the law, remedies and his areas of expertise in contract law and legal history. He was also fondly remembered for his collegial role, as a professor who taught many of his future colleagues, who all appreciated his ongoing willingness to discuss and share ideas. “Stephen Waddams was a superb scholar, and inspiring teacher and a wonderful colleague,” says Dean Emeritus, the Hon. Robert Sharpe (LLB 1970), a distinguished jurist-in-residence at U of T Law. “He was a vital member of the U of T Law community for over 50 years and one of the great figures in the law school’s history.” --- In tribute to Professor Waddams' lifetime of service to law and legal education, the Waddams family encourages donations to the The Stephen Waddams Bursary: https://uoft.me/waddams-bursary --- Photo: (Back row, left to right): Dean Jutta Brunnée, Dean Emeritus, Justice Sharpe, Professor Martha Shaffer, and Professor Emerita Carol Rogerson; (Seated) Professor Jim Phillips and Professor Emeritus John D.
