I did another set of studies of the Old Masters' Triad. This time I used Baohong Academy CP 300GSM, 5x7in. Paints are still Holbein Payne's Grey and Burnt Sienna, and Daniel Smith MANS. I tried to achieve the ff: 1. Capturing the light 2. Lost and found edges 3. Duotone effect I used pure Payne's Grey for Ma'am Chay's portrait. For Sir Gerry's, I mixed MANS with PG to create a black green. My seal is too big for this size, I will need to use the smaller one. Especially with Sir Gerry's where the bottom half was originally light, I covered it with a b. Sienna wash to make the seal less prominent. I actually used my 7x10 paper and cut it in half after. I'm planning to get pre cut paper so it's easier next time.
Ok dis is really is it! Putting down the paint brush and declaring this piece as finished! This is a plein air painting which I started on site on 01 Aug and finished today, 10Aug. Lightly pencilled and layered on colors until the shapes appeared. Baohong Academy CP 7x10 in Color triad: Delicate High Key: PR122 (Sennelier Helios Purple), PY150 (Sennelier Yellow Lake), and PB28 (Holbein Cobalt Blue) + Buff Titanium for the stone. A high key triad's limitation is its inability to produce dark darks. I made the deepest violet I could then added a bit of yellow to neutralize further into brownish red violet for the shadows. I cheated on the stone area with a layer of Buff Titanium for the shape/outline. Then I layered violet shadow on top. I found it fascinating that the skeletal structure of the tree is almost the exact same shade as PR122! Location: Gardens By The Bay, Singapore

Tropical Sunset Painted only with red, blue and yellow Prompts with set Colors are the hardest for me...🙈 Why do I join in something like that then? It is so easy to stay in my comfort Zone and paint only easy stuff, but I don't really learn from that! Sometimes I just take a leap in one of those uncomfortable Challenges and accept that Failure is an Option. Fail or no Fail I allways learn something new!
