If you’re considering teaching internationally, this is the biggest mistake I see most teachers making when considering job offers. Sharing what I’ve learnt, hope it helps someone 💛 I should also mention that the longer your in the international teaching sphere (read that again, I don’t just mean teaching in your home country), the choosier you can be regarding location. Building up experience in different places is crucial as it shows resilience and a breadth of experience. (Of course if your primary motivation for relocation is for a significant other or potential citizenship, that’s a different story so don’t come at me all at once 🌚)

Check Ins take on a whole new level when you add in a little creative expression! 🙌. They help kids connect deeply with their feelings by giving them the opportunity to bring life to them.😊 The other thing I love about these creative check ins is that the kids get so caught up in finding the perfect match for their feeling that they lose any reluctancy to share out. In fact, they can’t wait! Sometimes, when sharing in a group, it’s much easier to say that you feel like a boat caught in a turbulent storm than to say that you’re anxious or scared. Story time part 6 I’ve always worried about the perceptions of others on me, that’s not what’s new to this story. What is new is really how much it affected me. Swipe right ➡️ to see a pic from 11 years ago (to the day) where I graduated with my Bachelor’s. A degree that I always felt I had to accomplish because it was so engrained in my brain that it was the only thing that mattered. But what people didn’t see, is everything I didn’t do during my undergraduate years regarding a “stereotypical college experience” because I was just so afraid to fail and be awkward and enjoy. I didn’t think I should enjoy because I needed to work hard. And when I graduated, I still felt inadequate. Let me repeat that: I had a college degree and still felt incredibly inadequate. The first image is from 4 years ago (to this day). I was worried what people would say about my teaching style. I was worried about how I looked, if I looked like a teacher, whatever that actually meant. I was afraid to even share this news because I thought others would think I was showing off. I was afraid of being judged, of making mistakes, afraid of everything I wanted my students to do so that they could learn and grow. I guess advice given absolutely is easier said than done. I mean, I was on TV, teaching a math lesson based on my last name. I was on TV and still feared inadequacy. So now here I am today, 11 years later, 4 years later, still afraid; yet instead, I’m thriving in that fear to help me be ever so present that the fear has seamlessly intertwined and glides with my happiness. I had a moment at the airport yesterday where I sat +reflected on what fuels my energy vs. what depletes it!✨ Energy is currency 💵 In the last several years I’ve actually gotten VERY in tune w/ this self awareness! I had to - that’s what happens when your adrenals fail due to chronic stress + trauma! When your cortisol is OOC. When you’re tired and need sleep ALL the time. When your body gets so sick you can’t figure out WHATS wrong and you feel broken, betrayed and stuck. We HAVE to stop and take care! We HAVE to commit to making conscious choices to prioritize our energy levels and emotional well-being! It empowers us to live w/ vitality and resilience and shapes a path towards greater fulfillment and balance in our lives. On the energy-DEPLETING side: 🧁Poor Nutrition: Processed foods can deplete energy levels and impair metabolic function. 👎 Chronic Inflammation: Inflammation can drain the body’s energy resources. ☠️ Toxins: Burden the body’s detoxification systems, depleting energy reserves. 📱 Sedentary Lifestyle: Lack of physical activity can lead to decreased energy levels. 🎭Emotional Stressors: Unresolved emotional issues can drain mental +emotional energy. HOW TO MAKE BIGGEST CHANGE + GIVE YOURSELF ENERGY: 🍎 Nutrition: The quality of the fuel we consume significantly impacts our energy levels. [WHOLE GUT + 🧠 HEALTHY FOODS] 💧 Hydration: Adequate hydration contributes to sustained energy levels and cognitive function. Tough pill to swallow. My childhood is not like my students. I had to stop putting my expectations on how I grew up on them because it’s not parallel. Even though it’s the same community it’s different times. We came up on different parenting and different expectations.
