The Bucket Shot🪣 . I was more concerned with running around the house shooting every single object that had some form of interest to me rather than play with the brand new lego that I had gotten for Christmas. My little grey Canon Powershot that my parents had just gotten for me after ages of me borrowing my dad’s Nikon D3100 had become the obsession for the day and this obsession with capturing images would not stop there. Far from it⏳ Fast forward close to a decade and a half and I found myself sat 3/4 of the way up Lions Head, basking in a view that I had been chasing since discovering the frequency of foggy conditions in Cape Town between the months of January and June. A window that occurs every single year and a window that will see photographers flock to the mountains at ridiculous hours, all chasing their piece of the artist landscape unfolding✨ This is my Bucket Shot, not the first image, but the second slide through. An image I saw in my head almost 2 years ago and an image I have been chasing since and now I can finally say I have it, banked in my memory and on my hard drives. Day 4: Table Mountain and Camps Bay Today’s highlight was Table Mountain. I’d bought a pass on the Hop on Hop Off tourist bus and after driving through the city centre we drove for 30 mins up a winding, steep hill to the lower gondola station. Table Mountain is huge – I hadn’t appreciated how enormous it was till I got here. The plateau at the top is approximately 3km from side to side with 360 degree jaw-dropping views of Cape Town, the harbour out to Robben Island, all the way round to the Cape of Good Hope and the Atlantic Ocean. The plateau is around 1000 metres above sea level so because it was such a beautiful clear day, it was also very cold at 9.30 when I stepped out of the gondola at the top station. I spent about an hour walking round, taking photos and soaking up the beauty of the views. Although the cliffs dropping away from the plateau are incredibly steep, there are a number of hiking trails that can be used to climb up. They looked terrifying to me, and the one group of hikers I saw looked like ants. After leaving Table Mountain my next stop was Camp Beach. The string of beaches around the Cape are stunning with white sand and huge Atlantic waves rolling in and crashing onto rocks at the end of each beach. I climbed out onto some rocks to get some better shots, but realised the incoming tide was moving fast, so hustled to get back to safety. We made our way back to the V&A waterfront area – a mixture of working port and tourist centre. Tomorrow I shift to the Hilton Hotel as I need to be there Friday night ready to leave on safari at 7am Saturday morning.
