At SO-SO singular all the wood we use comes from prunings or fallen trees... after we collect the trees, they are cut into smaller sections and dry for about 6, 12, 24 months - or more - depending on the size of the trunk. The time is also a wood craftsman - cracks, fungus and warping appear and will become part of the wood that we work with. It also protects against insects, as well as making the wood fire retardan. When we started SO-SO, we were looking for light woods, with little grain and few nodes... We believed that wood was just a “means” to express our forms. However, this journey of several years has also been a learning process for us: we have learned that wood (and nature) are also artisans, capable of surprising and marveling us; while it is true that João sculpts the pieces, it is also true that the final result largely depends on the beauty and uniqueness of each wood: the grain and knots; the cracks and variations in wood color...
