I had made this #LottieDress from #ChristineHaynes before and made three and a half muslins to get it to fit, so it was lovely to reuse the pattern without having to do any fitting. This fabric is a really flowy linen-viscose kindly gifted to me by @Minerva. The colour is this are really rich and jewel like with a navy background, and pink, blue and green highlights. It’s a really subtle, stunning print. I didn’t use a facing for the neckline, but bound with 1.5 inch bias binding (open flat) I made from Liberty Tana Lawn. I don’t always do binding the conventional way and I don’t pre-iron bias binding. For this neckline, I sewed one shoulder closed and used my overlocker/serger to sew on the bias on the flat. I had pre ironed the bias into a gentle curve. I then understitched the binding on the inside to the seam allowance. I folded in the binding on the inside right up to the serging. I then basted the binding by hand with a contrast thread right along the very edge of the fold. I prefer to topstitch neckline binding from the outside and the basting means I can see exactly where the edge is. Otherwise it’s too easy to miss bits. Then I sewed the second shoulder. I sewed the seam allowance at the neck edge down by hand – just a few stitches. This also allows you to manipulate the fabric if there is a slight misalignment. I did mitred corners on the hem at the bottom. The sleeves of this dress are given as two pieces, but I joined them together subtracting the seam allowances. I’d like to make this again in a cotton lawn as a beach/sun cover up for my holidays. And I can see myself making winter versions in a light wool. I’ve never made a jacket before & this nearly went wrong but I think I managed to save it! I bought this lovely reversible quilted fabric from @fabricgodmother at the @thestitchfestival. I thought it was just right to make the Greta jacket by @sewmesomething & I planned to do the version with the collar & placket. I decided to go up a size (even though it was a generously sized pattern ) as I wanted to be able to wear a thick jumper under it so still be able to wear it in the winter. However, by mistake, I went up 2 sizes & noticed too late to recut it down a size! However by omitting the placket & doing a mash up of both versions I saved a few inches & I think it’s worked okay. Even found some vintage buttons in my stash that match perfectly. It’s a great pattern & I’ll definitely be seeing more in both versions & the gilets as well

My "work wife" has just had a major birthday. A few years ago I made a beaded apron for another friend and I had been requested to make another one. This is a catch up post from yesterday, the last day of #memademay2024 Here it's June already! I was wearing this outfit. I love this jacket and hand stitched all these little Japanese squares onto the backing during lockdown in 2020. I lined it as well. All that stitching was a worry reliever during that time. The pattern is a simple Burdastyle #110burda032020 short jacket. But now it doesn't really fit anymore and pulls slightly across the back when I am in motion not standing still and straight! I'm going to move on from too-short jackets. That's what's good about the wardrobe assessment aspect of Me Made May. I'll be looking at making more pants in future and looking at making a blazer length jacket. Last day of #memademay2024 #mmmay @sozoblog I’m wearing a McCalls7774 I made from fabric in my refashion pile of scraps. It was just enough for a simple bodice and a straight gathered skirt. In the third photo it shows the alterations I made to the shoulder straps. They were too wide at the shoulder so I took the bodice apart and sewed them to get a better fit. Jumping in at the very last gasp - Minimal Time left for #MagamSewalong #MagamMinimalMay @suestoney @sewing_in_spain @lizhaywood3754 with these two tops, made over yesterday and today with #sewingleftovers . Minimal effort, Minimal sewing (I thought... see below!), but I'm so happy with both. My photographer went off to the last @glasgowwarriors game of the season this evening and was unavailable, so Minimal photography too! . The blue one is the #angeliquelysimaque by @lysimaque_sew . I didn't like the sleeves and had planned on extending the front and back pattern pieces to form cap sleeves, but I forgot 🫣 Then I thought I could just bind the armholes and make it sleeveless, but it didn't sit properly as it had been designed for sleeves, so I ended up having to draft sleeves!! The fabric is @atelierbrunette Lucie viscose. . The multicoloured one is a #louboxtop by @sewdiypatterns with a mix of two different hem options, made with really fluid drapey viscose. . My #waiwot this morning, @consistentlydifferentdesigns , was making the neckline facing for the angelique top, so I thought I'd pass on a #sewing tip which some of you may not have previously seen... I stitch the fabric facing and the interfacing right sides together with a Minimal seam allowance before turning them wrong sides together and ironing as normal. You end up with a very neat (and strong) edge. This morning, as I was getting ready to iron the interfacing, I discovered that my iron had died 😭 so I hotfooted it off to buy a new one so that I could finish my sewing!! . This is the #ellisandhattie dress by @merchantandmills in a chambray from @spotlightstores The pattern is 2 dresses the Ellis and the Hattie and I made the Hattie which is dropped waisted, sleeveless, big patch pockets. The Hattie has a complicated lined bodice as the lining also requires neck darts plus there is also a facing. 🪡 I will make this again and the fabric will be totally plain to make the main feature - the neck darts more visible. I could also see this in a medium weight denim or Needlecord. 🪡 I will also enlarge the neck and I won’t bother lining it. The lining made it a slow sew. These are the Montauk Trousers from @lieslandco patterns. I made a size 4 graded to a 10 waist. I probably could have got away with a size 8 waist but every time I presume such things it bites me you know where. I can’t remember where the material is from and it’s most likely meant for a shirt or dress but every time I looked at it I kept seeing pants. Saturday I taped together the pattern pages. Sunday I cut out and sewed the dress. Monday I hand hemmed it, ironed and wore it right away! I only did two things a tiny bit differently: I made my size, 12 for a 36 inch bust. I kept the length of the largest size and used the neckline of the smallest size. I'm about 5'6". I folded and ironed the hemline up a half inch, then another inch and 5/8. It is what I think of as tea length or ballerina length, my favorite length. I like it so much that I cut out another today. Thank you, @yoursara_k ! ps: It is mystery fabric from the sale table at Bedford Fabrics in Fall River, Massachusetts. Maybe it is Tencel. Also, it is reversible. Round neck or v neck, whichever way you like!
❤️❤️❤️ I bought this beautiful cotton on @makers_resale. It is so light! I made some alterations to the #bemineballoonsleevetop from @pattern_emporium The alterations I made: I added a back yoke and gathered the lower back, I brought the shoulder seams to the front and widened the front to add gathers at the shoulders and also added a split and ties at center front. I added 2” in length, removed the CF and CB seams and cut the sleeves in the bias. 😎 I love it. Next time I will curve the yoke at each side and add more gathers on the front shoulders. Sewing is a super power! I started this to take part in #sewaprilblouse24 but had enough fabric to make a tunic instead. The fabric was bought from Sew your own Wardrobe at Ashby-de-la-Zouche 5 years ago. Tamlyn and I were en route to a sewing retreat in Bedford. It emerged from my stash when I was sorting my fabric collection. I love the colours and the quality is excellent. I am wearing it as part of #memademay2024 This is my first post in May, but I have worn memades every single day. My pledge has been to use fabrics in my stash and make garments that I will definitely wear. At SewToon I will be making Naya tees and Pietra pants. While sorting through my fabrics, I spotted a pair of discoloured white jeans that I thought could go to the trash. The fabric, however, kept calling to me. So I gave it want a second chance and put it in the wash. Surprised by the result, I decided to put my Pfaff 720 machine on it. Various decorative stitches and embroidery threads were used. I found so many inspiration @inges_naehakademie . And how happy I am that these jeans have been given a second chance. I also came across the tulip jersey in stock. Perfect for a top on these shorts. I chose a simple pattern to show off the fabric well. Lovely outfit for the holidays. I love this fabric. I bought it from @theconfidentstitch and made this @stylearc #sahopewovendress in 2022. It was just too big, so I took it apart. Lots of work. That gray spot below my foot is my dog. I cut it down a size, and I like it so much better. I plan to wear it today.
