This week, hear from our member Jenny Kang @jennykangphoto on how to maintain your cool during your wedding day! 1. Allow breathing room in your photo timeline! If possible, end an hour before your ceremony so that you can have some down time, have a snack, refresh, etc. 2. Pay attention to what you and your person want for your wedding day and stick to that. There will be a lot of noise, advice from others and trends on what it should look like. But at the end of the day, what do you want the day to feel like? How do YOU want to commemorate your union? My favorite non-traditional wedding was with cocktail hour in the beginning, the couple got to greet their friends. It was unique and special to them! I am also a big fan of the couple getting ready together, it is intimate and sweet. 3. I love fashion and I love practicality. Break those new shoes in before your wedding day so you aren't distracted by possible pain or discomfort. If you want photos in the forest, be mindful of your shoes and okay with the dress getting a little dirty. I'm also a big fan of changing into dancing shoes for the reception! We kick this series off with our WIPA Seattle member band The Afterparty Band @the.afterparty.band! Considering hiring a band for your wedding? Here are three tips from Tristin Lee Heiser, Singer/Dancer/Choreographer/Admin/Consultant for The Afterparty Band: 1. Look at the repertoire of the bands you’re considering. Do they play a ton of the songs you want to hear the night of your wedding or do you see a lot of songs you don’t care for? Most bands won’t play a ton of songs they don’t know (and if they have to learn them for your wedding they probably won’t be very good), so make sure you’re choosing a band that matches the style, sound, and vibes you want for the night. 2. Who in the band is going to actually be there at your wedding and does that matter to you? There are many different types of bands out there (same with most vendors), so be sure to know which type you’re getting. Is it more of a franchise or consortium agency with a large roster of musicians or more of a boutique family business with a tight band and crew? How many versions go out on your wedding day? Can you pick who you get? Don’t be deceived by clever marketing. 3. If you can, have a budget in mind, even if it’s a range. Even if it’s flexible. If you’re trying to find a band for less than $3k (or as close to as possible), then you can eliminate bands that don’t have options that are even close. Or vice versa, if you know you want to go BIG, then look for bands that charge at least $10k so again you eliminate bands that won’t have the wow factor you’re looking for. It saves everyone’s time in the long run if you have some sort of budget in mind for your music entertainment. If you’re in this for the long haul, read up. This is not the glamorous, fun job you think could fill your weekends and your life, maybe get paid for it. This is HARD. WORK. When you work for yourself, you WORK, 365 days a year if you’re not careful. All cards on the table - I don’t have all these three traits. I have a LOT of grit and personality. I am still working on taste. And sometimes, I lose one or two of these. But this is work that will make you sit down at the end of the day with your tea or wine or kombucha and say, “Wow, that was intense.” “I love it.” So wake up early or stay up late. Put in the WORK. Every year November sneaks up on me. Not until the weather turns and our weekends open up for friends and family does it dawn on me, another year of business has passed. This November marks 17 years in business which I must say is hard to believe. 2023 has been filled with weddings, mitzvahs, celebrations of life, milestone birthdays, and corporate events. Not to miss a number of educational and networking events I’ve had my hands a part of. While our event season is not over yet, and we have thousands of images to share from this past year plus, I can’t help but reflect on all that I’ve learned and all of the incredible moments myself and the entire Pink Blossom Events team has been a part of. The hours are long, the work is hard, but the joy of working with some of the best clients and vendors around to create an event that will forever live on in memories for years to come is priceless. Over the years I’ve gathered oodles of tips and tricks to every aspect of wedding and event planning, but I know there is always more to learn. Trends will change, new technology arises and clients' needs are forever altering. Are first looks worth the hype? I get this question all the time! And honestly it’s up to you! About 50% of my couple choose to do a first look because they want to! I never pressure or push a first look ever! Even if the timeline screams for it. Couples if you don’t want a first look but want to do extended family photos and have a big wedding party then I suggest doing outdoor bridesmaids and groomsmen photos before the ceremony. And group photos with the entire wedding party during family photos. But you have to be okay with the backdrop being different even slightly. Cause let’s face it, lighting may be different and it’ll be taken during two separate times. Included in all of my packages is timeline assistance and this is SO IMPORTANT. Photographers are always talking about light. How to see it. The quality of it. How to create it especially, wherever and whenever. But nothing beats the perfect beam of natural sunlight. When architects back in the old days created windows in old homes without electricity, placing the right window in the right place made all the difference. The space architects of @withinsodo (also an old building but refreshed in recent years) have also done such a good job keeping some of the old windows of the old metal shop and warehouse that was its first purpose, and incorporated new windows that introduce light into their spaces in such new and interesting ways. So excited! Last night, we were honored by our industry peers and clients with the Seattle Bride award for Best Cakes at @seattlebridemag’s “Best of 2022” gala. It’s our eighth award since we were first nominated back in 2013, and it truly never gets old to find ourselves in the company of our industry’s leading entrepreneurs and creatives.
