As temperatures increase, so do call volumes! Here are OSMP Ranger calls from a recent month... Injured cyclists: 3 Injured hikers: 4 Ill hikers: 1 Lost hikers: 2 Stuck climbers: 2 Injured climbers: 0. Phew. Smoldering abandoned camp fires: 1 Sleeping raccoons: 1 Sick raccoons and injured fox kits dispatched: 1 and 1. Found dogs: 7. Rarely are leashed dogs lost. Just saying. Body recoveries: 1 Large trucks stuck on Flagstaff: 1 Indecent exposures: 1 Welfare checks: 2 Arrests on OSMP due to warrants: 3 Lost then found children: 2 Human water rescues: 0. But it’s that time of year. Fish water rescues: Hundreds of trout lodged themselves behind a headgate in South Boulder. Rangers teamed up with CPW, Animal Protection, and OSMP Wildlife on an afternoon of energetic netting. CPW relocated the fish using their truck outfitted with a giant tank. Smiles all around. Outside agency assists included aiding with traffic on major incidences, CPR in progress, and assistance with a DUI and domestic on...Flagstaff Road. Additionally, rangers completed pack tests (46 minutes to hike 3 miles with a 45 lb pack for wildland fire red carded staff), qualified at the range, practiced swift water throw bag tosses, and, most importantly, rangers proactively patrolled. I lost track of our cumulative tick count after 30. Check yourselves. Make good choices and carry more water than you think you’ll need. See you out there. #enjoyprotect #recreateresponsibly #leavenotrace #responsiblerecreation #bouldercolorado #boulderosmp #cityofboulder #bouldertrails #boulderco #bouldercolo #boco_trails #bouldercounty #boulderlife #beboulder #cuboulder #coparkswildlife

As temperatures rise and the forests and deserts dry out, we enter what is known as “fire season” here in Arizona. Every year, hundreds of thousands of acres of the state burns due to human causes. For example, in 2020, wildfires burned nearly 980,000 acres of land in Arizona with more than 80% of said fires being human-caused. So far this summer alone, tens of thousands of acres of beautiful forests and desert here is Arizona have already burned due to human cause. Although it is ALWAYS important to practice #responsiblerecreation and stay fire conscious year-round, it is especially dire during these dry, windy summer months when conditions are just right for the next massive, out of control, human caused wildfire that could have possibly been avoided. **Photos came from various unknown sources, if you recognize any of the pictures we used as your own, please reach out to be credited** Check out the links in our bio or visit www.tralaz.org to find out how to get involved, donate, and download our free interactive trail map of the Tonto National Forest . . . . A few weeks ago, the @sonoraninsiders went to @oraclestatepark ! We had talks with Ethan from Oracle State Park and Gecko from @azstateparks about the park. Oracle State Park is part of @darksky_intl , which is actually based in Tucson! It is a board that focuses on getting state parks, communities, preserves, and cities dark sky certified. The first city that was certified a Dark Sky City was Flagstaff in 2001! ⭐️ For Oracle State Park, Oracle is a small town that only has a little over 3,000 people. In 2014, the community was outspoken about getting the town certified as a Dark Sky City. 🌜 One of the biggest concerns about dark cities is light pollution and human encroachment. Because of bright lights, such as in cities, it causes crepusclar animals (who are typically active during dusk and dawn) to not be able to find mates, food, or navigating where they are going. A lot of animals need darkness or see only by moonlight. Moths are important nighttime pollinators, and saguaros bloom during the night. 🌌 What can you do to help? - Don't use white/yellow LED lights, use amber/red lights (warm lighting). - Turn your lights off when you aren't using them. - Use timers/motion sensors. To find out more information, visit darksky.org ! Help protect our nocturnal pollinators and our beautiful Sonoran Desert. 🦇🦉🦋 Pictures: 1. Sunrise from my campsite 🏕 2. Sunset from camp 🌅 3. Memorial Day Weekend is a popular time to visit our national forest. However, we often see an increase in visitors and also a rise in regulation violations. Many people are littering and leaving behind unwanted materials for the next camper. We encourage visitors to avoid this behavior. Please refrain from burning trash or nails in the fire ring. Remember to bring a trash bag and pack out your garbage. Let's all be part of the solution. Find out more about Leave No Trace Principles at https://lnt.org/why/7-principles/ #MemorialDay #LeaveNoTrace #ResponsibleRecreation

Salt Creek has very little elevation gain or lose compared to the other canyons and trails in the area. One of the few steep sections is not far from the All-American Man pictograph. A few days after doing this trip for the first time I received a call from the park service. They were investigating a situation where someone had written their name in charcoal on the 4 Faces pictograph. Fortunately, there was no permanent damage after the park service cleaned up the vandalism. Before doing any backcountry exploration, be sure to learn how to be an excellent steward of this amazing natural wonder. Avoid touching the rock art or climbing on or around the ruins. And never add your own graffiti. Learning and applying Leave No Trace principles is strongly encouraged. #canyonlandsnps #dtesuccess #dte-extraordinary.com #lifeisgood #naturenurture #outdoormindset #dogood2024 #wildernesswellness #lifecoachingoutside #adventurecoaching #naturetherapy #outdoorreflections #mindfuladventure #ethicaldesertcare #leavenotracedesert #responsiblerecreation #desertrespect #deserttoadexpeditions #canyonlandsnationalpark #canyonlandsnp #angelarch #saltcreekcanyonlandsnp #angelarchcanyonlands #angelarchcanyonlands #elephantcanyoncanyonlands #leavenotrace #saltcreekcanyonlands
